For example, even in Iran they tended to confirm what Trump and Israel said in 24 hours. Even the girls school strike Iran admitted they did it by accident by the next day or so. The military giving out exact numbers of missiles fired and its quick decline certainly makes Iran's overall claims of mass destruction questionable. Just came back from my pre-birthday meal (birthday's tomorrow). A nice little Hispanic restaurant up the street. They had CNN on one of the TVs. Sound was muted but you can tell what was said. What a shit show that network is. It was muted because the clientele would rather listen to music. Happy sounding, Latin music. I mean, it could be Pink Floyd lyrics sung in Spanish but the music is so happy and chipper!

You can usually get a feel after a while. For example, even in Iran they tended to confirm what Trump and Israel said in 24 hours. Even the girls school strike Iran admitted they did it by accident by the next day or so
Information comes out eventually, like we can know now that most of Iran's leadership was obliterated by a bomb strike on day one. But you gotta give it time and people need to not freak out or celebrate when they see something online. People have pointed out that while there's always been a fog of war and false information in the pasts (like Ukraine claiming a super jet fighter was shooting people down, and showing video game footage), its worse now. Because in addition to the lies and false footage like older events being portrayed as now or as locations they are not... now there's convincing looking AI being made to fake events. While the "rules of war" which the US has never signed on to state that it is a war crime to deliberately target a place of worship... I don't think that applies with mosques. For one thing, Mosques are schools, worship takes place outside the mosque a certain number of times a day. Muslims don't have worship services as Christians understand it. Second, Islam does not make a distinction between religion and politics, between the personal the the public, between government and faith. It is all one. In my own experience, there are four stages to realizing the pointlessness of debating. The ones that filibuster, not even letting you get a word in edgewise, are almost doing you a favor by making it obvious that you're wasting your time. Next you may notice the ones that aren't really listening, just waiting for their turn to talk, which is no better. Third are those who appear to be listening, but only for a keyword or phrase to trigger a prepared argument. It's more like interacting with the dialogue tree of an NPC in a computer RPG, than with a real thinking human. Total waste of time. And the final stage is to realize that even if someone is actually really honestly listening, you're still probably not going to sway them one millimeter. You cannot reason someone out of a position that he was not reasoned into (Mark Twain?), and you cannot get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it (Upton Sinclair). Psychic/emotional income counts as a salary, an ego threat might as well be existential, and Incentive Is Undefeated. Always remember: You are, unfortunately, dealing with fellow humans. 169 tubal, more or less. IRGC is a separate organization, with lots of the features of regular militaries in corrupt places (like China) - businesses, skimming, etc - but it's overall ideological and fanatical and not a regular military. They handle all the terrorism and proxy war-mongering.
Top levels of the regular military are screened for ideological loyalty (such as that can be conclusively tested for), but most of the ranks below them are "normal" (i.e. a mix of backgrounds and politics). Posted by: rhomboid at March 09, 2026 05:51 PM (U/Byj) Thanks. I know the SS was fanatically bound to Hitler unlike the Wehrmacht. Hitler never trusted the regular army. There is another category as exemplified by Alex O'Connor who makes a convincing pretense of simply wanting to understand and ask questions, appear to listen and care what people are saying, but only uses it to find new ways to attack Christianity. He uses the lie of "I am genuinely just trying to understand" and the pretense of an open mind to sharpen new attacks on Christians and faith. Opening days of Barbarossa is important the biggest example of this (and why I laugh at Xi purging the army.) If Russia had not been so fucking big, if they had not started late, the Germans likely would have swept them to the orals inside the year.
It is so centralized and everyone is paralyzed by inaction (will I get my ass shot when thr leader finds out?) That no one knows what to do. Even worse if communication is impaired. A Naval invasion is an entirely different kettle of fish than even swarming a neighbor overland..which China failed to do vs Vietnam in 1979. That's neglecting what the US would have to say about it.
Posted by: Oldcat ======= We haven't launched an invasion landing (although used it as a feint in Desert Storm), since Inchon, Korea. In a modern war, I think it would be suicide for logistics and the vulnerability of waves of ships when the permissiveness of the air and sea environments are not likely to exist. I thought all along with the Chinese ideal was something like Iran's. Massive missile bombardments to destroy defenses so that the landings would be simply mopping up. Now that certainty it will work is not there anymore. Posted by: whig at March 09, 2026 06:29 PM (E4rtv) 344
But still utter bullshit, yes?
Well, sure. Almost none of the Hadiths are likely historical or reliably accurate. The story of how they came up with this stuff is hilarious. One dude took thousands of these things and went through them and picked out the ones he figured were real and which were not. Like the story of a leader several generations after Muhammad died supposedly took all the different copies of the Quran and burned all of them but the one he deemed true. Aside from what A.H. Lloyd mentions, these decisions were made by councils, after considerable discussion, debate, study, and comparison. It wasn't one guy going "eh, this one stays, that one does not." Plus, the purpose of the councils to decide on theological issues was to see if they were Biblical not to create the Bible. Posted by: Gref at March 09, 2026 06:38 PM (5rh/l) Casualty figures in those days need to be taken with a lot of salt. It would be almost impossible for an army to kill 450000 in a single day if the victims were politely lined up and asking for it. Not to mention the barbarians could not feed or move forces that size. There were certainly plenty of Gauls and border Germans under the empire to populate the West provinces even just a few decades later for the next 500 years. Its not revisionist, Mecca was not a trading hub, was not a significant location, and was not important to anyone. It was a tiny place in the desert with a well.
