First World Problems...

greasefail26.jpg

Interesting issue...did the grease gun shrink with disuse, or has the industry standard canister gotten bigger?

Either way, my best course of action is to raze the garage, and rebuild it with an integrated grease delivery system.

I inherited a really olde grease gun from my paternal grandfather. No cartridge fit it. I would refill it by hand from a tub of axle grease. Sometimes the plunger would work to pull the new grease in, but it eventually died and I had to refill it like i was packing a bearing.

Wonder where that grease gun is, I haven't seen it since the 80s.

94 San Franpsycho, my maiden aunt Irene lived alone into her 90s, and was a true Depression-era first-gen Luddite.
She finally allowed one of my cousins to set up home visits for her, to help as much as Irene would let her, and the woman came every other day.
Until the day she came and found Irene had been down due to a throw rug since the day before, and she had been unable to crawl to her ancient 15-lb black rotary dial to call for help, so she patiently waited, with her snapped femur.
She was proud of the fact that she did not break her HIP.
I already don't have throw rugs.
As my daughter the ER nurse constantly tells me: FALL RISK.
I tell them both I'm more likely to fall if I start getting paranoid about it.
I do still get down on the floor to do certain things, and I can get back up fine. It may take a bit longer and certainly isn't pretty, but I can do it.

CBD, as mentioned above, they do make different sized canisters for different size grease guns. You do have there the smallest size and replacement tubes are readily available. For most folks not lubing automobile chassis, but rather lawn tractors and such, a 10.00 3 pack of general high temp grease will likely outlive you.
MRP
That red grease pictured is excellent for anything that slides on a gun. Again, that tube is a lifetime supply for any collection short of an actual arsenal.
Grease if it slides, oil for everything else.

112 FWP: Tapper

By Gabe Owners
BREAKING: CNN Reports NYC Explosive Throwers Were “Two White Men In MAGA Hats”
NEW YORK — Mere moments after NYPD officers tackled two counter-protesters outside Mayor Mamdani’s Gracie Mansion, CNN’s Jake Tapper cut in with the day’s most important update.
“Breaking news: two white men in MAGA hats have been throwing improvised explosive devices in New York City,” Tapper declared, gesturing at live footage of the actual suspects being cuffed. “This kind of senseless violence has ‘Trump supporter’ written all over it.”
Network sources later explained that eyewitness video, the suspects’ names, their appearances, and the complete absence of red hats were all “problematic” and “not helpful to the narrative.”
“The important thing is we don’t let facts get in the way of the story,” one producer told TDS News on condition of anonymity. “If we can’t blame MAGA, what are we even doing here?”
At press time, Tapper was reportedly asking his team how soon they could confirm the devices were radicalized by President Trump’s tweets.

The median age in my community is 74 with lots of widows and widowers. One of our biggest concerns is balancing privacy with having friends and neighbors know if you are okay.

It was fine, young doctor was hilarious, and I messed with him--made him look in my fridge, which he admitted looked better than his. fruit, cheese, yogurt, fresh salad makings, a casserole.
Showed him my feet, and remarked that the ladies at Lucky Nails around the corner are MUCH cheaper than a podiatrist.
Asked him if he was there to make sure I wasn't fighting with my toaster, and so on.
Took my vitals, visited and played with the dog for a while, and handed me some info cards and a magnet for the fridge.
Haven't seen him since, so I guess I passed.

Or I suppose they might have had agents ready to take out the IRGC folks on the street if they bolted. I can see the IRGC folks thinking "not going to go out and make myself a target, but I can't see them not changing rooms if they had received the warning. Heh, maybe Mossad was at the front desk, did not know what room the IRGC were in and needed the request to change rooms for accurate targeting. Fun speculation game.

136 TonyPete, I've got a couple years until 70, and I think one of the reasons my daughter is so psycho is because of the awful things she sees on the regular in the ER.
She told me a horrible story of a bedbound lady cared for by her equally elderly husband, who no one knew was starting dementia.
Neighbors saw him out in the yard one day naked and waving a weapon at a tree, called it in, EMTs found wife in bed, emaciated and lying in filth.
Daughter said it took several hours of careful cleaning of her tissue paper skin folds to remove all the baody waste, and the roaches that were feeding on it.
She knows I'm not there yet, but she worries.
I've told her it's been nearly 40 years since I lived alone, and I'd very much like to keep doing it until I can't.

155 AI AGENTS vs. HUMANs ... Am hoping this post will spare at least one person the frustration I recently experienced interacting with an AI Customer Service agent ... When I made an online purchase -- and was sent the wrong product -- I called Customer Service seeking either a replacement or refund ... Unfortunately, the AI agent was neither able to resolve my issue, nor would it offer me the option to speak with a human ... The obstacle (according to the AI agent) was that the Zip Code I verbally provided did not match the Zip Code in the company's system ... I'll spare y'all the 20-minute dialogue transcript that took place before getting the matter resolved by a human who informed me immediately that the company was aware of the Zip Code problem -- and that, if it happens again, simply ask to speak to a live agent THREE TIMES during my interaction with the AI agent.

My mother refuses to wear hers. She leaves it on her walker tray. Her reasoning: if she falls, she can knock the walker over somehow, and drag herself to the monitor. And the one that's supposed to be in the shower? Won't move it from the vanity countertop. I ask her, if you fall, how are you going to get to that?

Nobody wants to lose mobility; I get it. But i don't get the steadfast refusal to have access to an alert.

Posted by: BifBewalski - at March 08, 2026 02:08 PM (QVmho)

If you do find grand-paw's grease gun, my suggestion for filling it is to get a modern grease gun, that fits modern cartridges, and use that to fill grand-paw's olde grease gun. Much easier than packing it with your hands like an animal.

167 @ 128 Dr. No, I have Aetna too, and they made me have an in home last year, but not this (last was my first year medicare with them).

I'm not existentially opposed to such things (I remember when I found my Mom on her floor in a pool of blood - no crim activity, tho'), but this is the sort of thing that can escalate without warning to levels I don't want to participate in. Next time Aetna calls, I may call back and ask 'em to explain exactly what's done during one of these visits. Thanks for your input.

180 AI AGENTS vs. HUMANs ... Am hoping this post will spare at least one person the frustration I recently experienced interacting with an AI Customer Service agent ...
Posted by: Kathy

I love the ones that don't announce they're AI and pretend to be a human. Identical keyboard-clicking noises after you answer each question, and all that laugh-track-quality fakery.

The last time I got stuck in AI Agent runaround, I got sent to a live human when I asked the agent, quote, "are you fucking retarded?"

185 Dr No, I checked with daughter and asked if it was basically a screening to make sure I'm safe to live alone, and she said pretty much.
So, yes, the kitchen is in good repair and is used to make actual food, the house isn't cluttered, filthy, or a fire hazard, the bathroom is clean and works, and I'm not going to burn anything down or start taking the walls apart to see if my upstairs neighbor is stealing my electricity.
I approached it that way, had some fun messing with him, and we both went on our way.
I can understand the privacy concerns, and also any prying about possible arms, but I had some fun with it, and they haven't asked to do another one since.
So, either I passed, or I had TOO much fun messing with him.

188 This is funny because I used to go through gallons and gallons of grease. The more the bettah. Now I work in an industry where I use paint brushes to, as I call it, Bob Ross it, on rails and jack screws inside million dollar machines where a drip can do hundreds of thousands of dollar in damage. I use those little grease guns a lot but only one pump, if that. Paint everything. Run the machine through a warm up and then clean the hell out of it. My last job was "pump it til it pukes". 15 gallon, air powered, monsters that if you put in a loose zirk fitting you could shoot grease 20 feet. A trade secret, so shhhh.
Anyway I hate grease. BUT it is essential where required. Must be clean and doesn't age well. So replentish it frequently to avoid costly repairs.

Mentioning “terrorism” when two Muslims attempt to detonate a nail bomb = bad

Mentioning “white supremacy” when two Muslims attempt to detonate a nail bomb = good

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani @NYCMayor

Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are.

What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are.

I want to thank the brave men and women of the NYPD who acted quickly to keep New Yorkers safe. Our officers ran toward danger without hesitation, demonstrating once again the courage and dedication it takes to protect this city every single day.

My administration is closely monitoring the situation and I remain in close contact with our Police Commissioner.
