Kewl Stuff! The aerial refueling aircraft used in Operation Epic Fury were created from a single $16 million Boeing prototype.
In the 1950s, Boeing made a $16 million bet. As Boeing manufactured newer, faster jet bombers for the Air Force, mid-air refueling aircraft lagged behind. The standard refueling aircraft at the time, the propeller-powered KC-97, flew much slower than the jet-powered bombers it was meant to refuel. To Boeing president William Allen, it seemed like only a matter of time before a jet tanker became necessary. The Air Force hadn't requested a jet-powered refueling aircraft, but Allen was sure that they'd buy it once they saw it fly. His $16 million bet eventually led to the creation of the 707 jetliner and the Air Force's KC-135 tanker. Development began in 1952. It's been snowing today! I love it and have missed my old friend, winter.
Yellow crocus are blooming and none of my spring flowers mind the snow. Also some primrose. I hope we don't have a hard freeze with the plum tree blooms, but otherwise it can snow through May to catch up with our snowpack.

My family used to catch crabs in Annapolis, at the Naval Station across from the Naval Academy. At night.
We used aluminum poles with a chicken wire net to scoop them out of the water as they went past our lights. It did take skill, much more than a crab trap.

He just happened to have a fresh battery in the bed of his truck. He disconnected my battery, connected his, OK, start the truck then disconnects his battery, the truck keeps running (new one to me) and connects my battery.
Get home, leave the truck running, off load the grub, situate truck appropriately for tomorrow's job and kill it. Turn the key and it fires up lickety split.
Tomorrow's fire up will be interesting 'cause I just don't know.

Sometimes the bitter cold then warm alternating temperatures can slightly loosen the connections to the terminals.
Maybe try a good clean and re-tighten before you scrap that battery?

First thing was to call service But the phone was at home. There was a lady parked at the truck's nose so I asked her if she would make the call. Sure.
She was a patient person and knew how to push all the buttons on the phone because that Service didn't make it easy. When all was said and done I gave her a tip for her efforts, she blessed me and said good bye's.

I read a lengthy article regarding his "confession" of the affair. He spoke as if he just had a chocolate bar when telling the world he was on a keto diet. There was NOTHING about him that suggested sincere repentance...because all he cared about was the high-paying job of being congressional critter.
I feel so sorry for his wife. She needs money, so she'll probably pretend to accept this asshole's apology. And both of them will live another 20 years together in misery, because he's an asshole and she needs the support.

His replacement ID card likely won't arrive until end of next week at the earliest. Not much can happen without *that*-- at least in terms of replacing his other important documents like SS/Medicare cards. Also, need it to cancel his vehicle insurance and get a new phone/migrate service from old one.
Fortunately, he was able to get a bank statement printed out, so now we know what cell carrier he has and what auto-deductions need to be cancelled. Not 100% sure, but appears to be no fraudulent transactions.
Meanwhile, I made an app't at "Aging & Disability Resource Center"-- next Tuesday. See what he can apply for/qualify for?
What am I supposed to do? Throw him out in the cold? He's 71 years old. Frail. Needs a cane. Deaf. Possibly in early dementia.

It’s not just because of the oil shortage although that’s part of it. Cuba’s power plants are obsolete oil burners from the early 70’s, and they haven’t had much maintenance for 30 years now. They’re held together with baling wire and duct tape, but they’re being run at 110% capacity which is why they break down repeatedly.
Long story short, without intervention by the US, Cuba is on the brink of one of the greatest waves of starvation so far this century.

No. The sister died long ago. I think she had 2 kids... they would be in their 40s now, but I don't know their names, never met them. Their contact info, if BIL even had it, would be on his lost phone.
Parents, aunts/uncles all gone. BIL has no children. I think he burned-out his late wife's family already (?) and I've never met/don't know names of any of them.

Make sure the alternator is doing its job, should be about 14.5 volts at the terminals running 2500 RPM with headlights, accessories and A/C on. Most auto parts stores can test the battery & charging system.

Wow. You are very kind. I understand about the shelters. Is there anything anywhere for dependent deaf elderly housing (if there is such a thing)?
I had a cousin who died in his 60's. Paranoid schizophrenic since his 20's. When his parents died they left the house to him. Instead of getting better he got worse. In and out of rehabs when young after his psychotic break. On meds. Saw a shrink. Lost his car, etc. Totally dependent then on his mother's SS and his SSI. When she died it got worse.Alienated his brother, etc. He died of hypothermia after not paying his gas bills.
At his funeral his shrink (who knew my mother elsewhere) told her he'd tried to get him into a halfway house for years and he refused.
Maybe a halfway house? Only a social worker around there would know.If he can make meals. Medicaid.
This is a lot on you that you don't need.
Due to his deafness at birth, which is not a handicap others overcome (I know this from a friend's sister), his dementia makes it a handicap.
I am so sorry and will pray for you.

BIL has been *enabled* for 50 years, imo. Been taken in and taken care of. Then married for 30 years to a woman who took care of business for them both.
Everything went to hell after she died and BIL began circling the drain... I'm not going to bail him out & let him suck up like his "friends" who just let him couch-surf until they got tired and kicked him out or dumped him at hospitals.
No-- I'll help get him placed into a stable situation on his own dime, or subsidized, and then turn him loose. (At least he's no longer a danger on the road!)
And make clear that he IS NOT to consider this house as a landing pad ever again.
Hoping for some type of assisted living, so that he won't "need" to drive.

I still think this needs to be brought back to the hospital where he came from. Or, at the very least, have a social worker from there help you/direct you and should have contacts. Something.
No, he did not land there with a medical problem, for treatment. But it was still a form of dumping vs placement since they did not talk to you.
I am sure of this because of my case manager job in the ED in Florida. I doubt it is different in any other state. You have to, legally, discharge to a safe place from a hospital.
Not saying yours is not safe, but you can't care for him except temporarily.
This then becomes their problem.

BIL was last licensed in WA, so that's the state from which he'll get new ID card. ("General Delivery" in a nearby town, so that there's no establishment of residency at my mailing address!)
Tuesday we see a social agency & hope to get pointed in the right direction. BIL will not be staying in my house for *the duration* if he gets on a wait list.
I found out that he actually has some savings, so he can just spend his own money on a place to live!!!

Assisted living places do have vans for transportation.
Assisted living facilities are paid out of pocket or with long-term health insurance. Medicare/Medicaid won't pay.
If he is low income or indignent he will qualify for Medicaid waivers for a nursing home or a place with similar disabilities.
That is the difference: payment. My MIL was in assisted living. Our parents (thankfully) had/have long-term health insurance that paid for sitters (for my parents, mother still living at home), or assisted living without touching their savings.
Most people in nursing homes are Medicaid and pay down. And/or the sale of their house after their death's profit goes back to Medicaid.
While a PITA, he should be marched into a public housing place/obtain a Medicaid waiver/ and have someone help you with this. Social workers (ok, good ones) help and have connections and lists.
Placement is a lot of work and waiting. You are on the right track, but I ask again...do you want him in your state? Or is their no choice since he has no one else? Take care of yourself.

I'm in Idaho. Close to the WA border. BIL is (technically) a WA resident. The hospital in question is somewhere in Phoenix AZ-- where BIL was couch surfing...
He will need to spend down some savings to get Medicaid I think. His savings account has mid 4-figures in it. He was a bit surprised to learn this, just today when we went to the bank.
Anyway-- he has *some* means, and he needs to GTF out of MY house. I will help him do it safely and permanently. If he refuses (because he doesn't want to pay)?

I had researched it a bit, and I’m not surprised at all, which is why I was always certain that a fast attack like everyone wanted at the time of the protests could have been disastrous.
Iran spent the last decade or two building and storing tens of thousands of missiles of various types; not an exaggeration, these numbers are widely accepted.
We’re lucky because of one major miscalculation where they were two clever by half - they built several deep bunkers inside mountains that they call “missile cities “ where they stored these in the thousands; but the USAF has mapped them, and although the granite over them is too thick ever for bunker busters, all of the entrances can be blown up, leaving them entombed forever.
That has been the purpose of many of the bomb___ missions the last few days.
It also points up how insane we were to know that they were building this huge offensive war machine for years.

That is BS. There is no way I or anyone I worked with would have done this without talking to someone and getting permission. Heck, you might not have been home, and the cops would have brought him back to the hospital.
Talk to the social worker, nurse or whoever did this in the ED, look for a signature and/or MD names...then the director of the ED (who will be a RN and mention EMTALA).
Social work has lists for where he could go.
If you get no where with the ED, talk to the manager of social work/case mgmt. If that goes nowhere, talk to the director of nursing about that ED's discharge. If that goes nowhere talk to the CEO and mention a lawyer.
DOCUMENT all dates and calls from the start.
I don't know how big this hospital is. In our med center we discharged patients and each floor had someone. I happened to be in the ED for 5yrs, after working all over the med center when people were on vacations.

We signed Rebecca up when she was 6 months old (she qualified for many programs independent of our income) - her name finally came up to the top if the list when she was 7. My understanding is that the wait now is around 10 years in Texas.
Also, you said that he has funds available to him - are they in his name? If so, he will not qualify for ANY waiver programs until he has less than a certain predetermined amount of assets in his name. Not sure if that includes vehicles or property, but before you start applying for help, make sure any funds in his name have been placed into a special needs trust.
Wish I didn't have to know all of this stuff....

Ask the cops where he came from. Bus stop? Or was he briefly in a hospital in Idaho after the bus ride? I guessed he got off the bus, was acting wonky, and a cop brought him to the local ED near you.
Assume no paperwork with him. Ask what part of Phoenix. Probably he won't know, either.
This is worse than I thought without that answer. Let me think about this and I will be back here tomorrow night.
Who were the dimwit friends who he was couch surfing with? Does he at least know that and a phone number? Surely he does since he found them!!! Maybe they know the hospital? Call those jackasses.

This is all a dead end. BIL "doesn't remember" or won't say.
Evidently, HE bought the fking bus ticket himself. Saw the charge on his bank statement. He told me yesterday, that "the hospital paid for it". Possibly he is confused, because he f'd up somehow with his debit card at Phoenix bus terminal (bank told him/us this today) and it was "manually approved" but now his debit card is *flagged* and will continue to be declined until he/we call the number on card to straighten it out.
This BS just gets worse and worse. The sooner he is out, the better. But he AT LEAST needs photo ID in hand before he can do anything for himself. That should arrive within 2 weeks, possibly by the end of next week.

He'd also jolly well better tell you his medical problem if he expects you to help him. This is why I think he's acting a bit. He's used this for decades.
Since he's deaf I'd write down that he tell you the friend's address/number/name or he's going on a one way bus trip back to WA or another friend.

IF he is telling the truth and he was discharged unsafely from a hospital in Phoneix, it is dumping. If his friends put him on a bus that is another story. The fact that he's wearing a bracelet is something, but otherwise a total mystery. He knows more than he's saying about location of the hospital.
My goodness I am sorry. I'd probably check myself into the ED to get away from him.

I don't think he's so confused he won't know his last couch surfing friend's name/number. That would answer if he ever was in a hospital before you pull the big guns out. Talk to them.
I may be completely wrong about how demented he is, but he gets around pretty well since he made it to Arizona from WA and now is in Idaho.
We once had an ED patient from Tampa who was mental, but liked to go to different ED's. We were on the Atlantic side. She'd pretend to have seizures...the second she stepped off hospital property. She knew she had to be treated and loved it. Lived with her mother in Tampa & did this all over the state of FL. Made it to MN this way and an ED doc found and posted the newspaper article in the ED.
He's always had someone take care of him. It's really hard to tell how much of this is his total dependence on kindness or avoidance of being a tiny bit responsible. Gotta go nite nite.
