The Morning Report — 3/5/26

LUMPYTORP.jpg

Good morning kids. While the military campaign continues over and around Iran —
pretty amazing that we sank an enemy warship with a torpedo fired from a submarine for the first time since the end of World War 2! —the question is what is the ultimate goal and what will it take to achieve it. My understanding is the complete dismantling of the Iranian regime's ability to produce nuclear weapons and the ability to deploy them, i.e. their missile production and firing capabilities. But beyond bombing infrastructure, the only way to ensure that is indeed regime change. I have no problem with that since it was Iran that declared and has been at war with the United States of America since the removal of the Shah and the installation of the current Islamic government in 1979. And the Ayatollahs have openly demonstrated that "Death to America" is not merely a slogan but the nation's foreign policy goal and raison d'être.

President Trump understands this and so now he and his team are pushing for regime removal, both anticipating that the air campaign will empower the citizenry to achieve that goal? Once removed who or what moves in to fill the void? Now that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini has gone to his eternal reward of 72 Helen Thomases. . .

The first attempt the surviving rulers of the Islamic Republic of Iran made to replace their fallen supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, didn’t quite go as planned. Fox News reported Tuesday that “Israeli forces struck an Iranian Supreme Council gathering on Tuesday as the group was meeting to choose a successor to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.” According to Fox News’ Trey Yingst, “They just targeted the meeting in Tehran where what’s left of the leadership was gathering to choose a new Supreme Leader.”

The remaining high command quickly regrouped, however. Also on Tuesday, Iran International reported that “Iran’s clerical body, the Assembly of Experts, has elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ali Khamenei, as the Islamic Republic’s new Supreme Leader, according to his informed sources who spoke to Iran International on condition of anonymity.

”Dr. Eric Mandel of the Middle East Political and Information Network (MEPIN) observed that Mojtaba Khamenei is “widely viewed as one of the architects of the regime’s repression.” Iran analyst Arash Azizi added that the new supreme leader “has been a bete noire of democratic movements at least since 2009 when he was rumored to have helped orchestrate the repression.

Terrific. The US Navy can return to port and the Air Force can stand down. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED?! This is not regime change and certainly if we accept this outcome, the "new" government will clean up the rubble and immediately begin reconstituting its nuclear weapons and missile programs as well as continue slaughtering anyone who they even suspect of daring to object.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has stated in no uncertain terms. . .

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth signaled prolonged U.S. military involvement in Iran on Wednesday morning, stating a surge of forces is “accelerating, not decelerating. . . “As President Trump said, more and larger waves are coming. We are just getting started,” Hegseth said. “We are accelerating, not decelerating. Iran’s capabilities are evaporating by the hour, while American strength grows fiercer, smarter and utterly dominant. More bombers and more fighters are arriving.” “To our steadfast partner, Israel: Your mission is being executed with unmatched skill and iron determination,” he added. “Fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with such a capable ally is a true force multiplier and a breath of fresh air. We salute your courage and your contribution — four days in we have only just begun to fight.”

On the one hand, it's quite satisfying that once again the unlikely voice of sanity from the Left flank is none other than John Fetterman!

“Can’t we just get tired of — are we tired of being wrong, consistently, on the region?” Fetterman also stated that people in the party don’t want to be seen as agreeing with President Donald Trump.

Then again, this statement from globalist and Bushie Condoleeza Rice does not inspire confidence. If she of all people considering her pedigree is cheering on President Trump, then that kind of makes me gulp a bit.

“If you can render Iran essentially incapable of military action against us and against our allies thats worthy, and I think what they’re trying to do is to neuter Iran as a military power in the region,” she said.

Things that make you go hmmm. . .

Meanwhile back at home, speaking of regime change, Just like seeing Khameini eat a J-Dam, it was quite enjoyable watching Jasmine Crockett, the equivalent of a urine-soaked lice-infested whorehouse mattress go down in flames in her insane senatorial bid.

Frederick Haynes III, the senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, secured the Democratic nomination for the seat Crockett will vacate in January 2027 due to her decision to mount her ultimately unsuccessful campaign for the Senate, according to The Associated Press. During the diatribe he unleashed the Sunday following the Sept. 10, 2025, assassination of Kirk, Haynes claimed that Kirk’s positions were “rooted in white supremacy.”

To paraphrase the immortal lyrics of The Who, Meet the new Democrat, same as the old Democrat. Feh.

Well, that's not really what happened. This was nothing more than a ballot proposition asking Republican voters if they would be in favor of the Republican Party of Texas putting forth a law to ban Islamic Sharia.

Islamic Sharia was not actually banned in Texas with this ballot measure result.

Considering Governor Abbott has a Muslim as his biggest donor -- and Islam has been growing fast all across Texas, especially Houston area -- I doubt he'll support any law put on his desk to ban Islamic Sharia in Texas.

There have been volunteer candidate training schools run by the Dems and the GOP usually for local and low level state offices. Friend of mine used to run one such program in Illinois.

But overall, I think we elect too many offices nowadays and need to elect a few major honchos that you can hold accountable rather than a long list of ballot choices where we know nothing about them except if they stink up the place. Quiet malfeasance and misfeasance in office means that they sit in place for decades screwing the public.

A basic background check and loyalty test would help. Just like those who enlisted in the military.

Current “policy” is anybody who gets elected is “deemed” to have passed a background check.

Which is complete bullshit. The F.B.I. should have been providing Americans a public dossier on every candidate.

The House, not sure about the Senate, used to have rules where it wasn’t enough to win an election in your district. As a final check you had to be admitted to the House by a vote. That’s eminently reasonable.

Not possible in our current constitutional setup. Ironic that you can do so at the Service Academies through a mandatory honor code (and a few other military schools) but not for the politicians over them.

Heinlein's Starship Troopers has Col. DuBois deliver lectures on what he thinks was wrong with the fall of Western governments in his world and it was pretty much what we see today.

Something similar in Space Viking by H. Beam Piper where a government was strong externally but too weak inside to remove a deadly threat.

Not quite true. Baptist churches have a strong congregation centered focus. The congregation owns the land, church buildings, etc, not the denomination and it determines pastor and leadership internally in the church. That makes it easy sometimes for a ringer to show up.

On the other hand, trying to repeatedly claim notions that are counter to S. Baptist Association doctrine can and does end up in a church falling out of fellowship with the Association. That means cannot claim S. Baptist affiliation and end of certain funding. training, etc. benefits from belonging along with representation at the S Baptist meetings.

Happens somewhat frequently.

He answered, "This has been going on a long time in public through, in part, the efforts of a group called Chabad, C-H-A-B-A-D."

Simply put, you gotta win the current war with the constitutional tools that we have.

I think the easiest way to get there right now is require people have skin in the game--Trump accounts for kids suddenly makes them investors rather than consumers--skin in the game. And so on. People respond to incentives and disincentives so use that instead. Less appealing and certainly slow but a quick fix by coups and irregular regime changes often are worse.

I gave him a crockpot, a dutch oven, and many simple things to make for himself. Most of which required very little prep. He's a guy, so I cut him some slack. Absolutely. That's where I learned to cook and developed my love of cooking. Had a fantastic cooking class teacher with the patience of a saint. My class was like the second in the history of our school where girls could take shop and boys could take home ec. I signed up for the food and because the class was 95% girls. Came away with a love for cooking.

(The few boys who signed up were actually called to the guidance counselor's office and questioned if we were doing it as some kind of stunt! Different times.)

Because California has become an attractive nuisance among the states and substance abuse is why. People go there, to CO, to WA and OR to abuse drugs and live off the taxpayers there.

Welfare benefits plus legalized drugs means every Tom, Dick, and useless Harry will congregate in such places to be locusts. And many of those will fry their brains in their pursuit of being high to the extent that they become permanently unemployable as well.

This is one of his practiced semantic tricks. I call it the "Noam Chomsky shuffle." That is, you pair a falsehood with its own refutation then double back with an "actually" or "it's a fact." Chomsky would also attach throwaway phrases like "it's common knowledge..." or "we all know by now it's true that.." before stating a complete lie. In this way he would build lie upon lie. Crude but when done properly, with the right tone of sincere authority, very effective with those uninformed and impressionable.

I see you have good solutions.
When I ran and was reelected, I was given insight into how candidates were selected. The local GOPe did not have a military style grow big candidates from successful junior officials. They wanted to focus on the top tier.

One system is to start with thankless public positions, and move the good ones up.
Posted by: NaCly Dog

Local political parties are far too often locust people that seek office to make good for themselves, not the people they allegedly serve.

The Good Ole Boy system which now includes women and that increases with the amount of money that a local government spends.

I would far rather have a single county executive with a mini county legislature and forgo the elections of tax collectors, tax assessors, treasurers, etc. I would keep the election of DA and sheriff as a semi check on the greed of the others. I grudgingly agree with elected judges rather than appointed as well.

Well many of the folks here are talking about learning to cook. That in and of itself is worthy of changing our country. Saves a lot of money for young people versus shelling out for grub hub, etc. and providing them with better nutrition.

Anything that makes people less dependent for day to day life is a good thing. Humans can rise to the challenge or they can retreat into a world of drugs or booze, laying on the couch getting fat and hopeless, or into worlds of their own filled with distractions like gaming, movies, entertainment, even politics. None of those ultimately does much to make one independent enough and community minded enough to keep a civil society going.

Anything that makes people less dependent for day to day life is a good thing. One thing always in demand, helping to teach kids how to read early on or adults if that is more your thing. We have an epidemic of people that are functionally if not totally illiterate and that naturally has consequences. Literacy League is an ngo that is around the US, there are often schools where one can volunteer to tutor, and so on.

If you are STEM, then helping local schools with their robotics challenge groups as a tutor/mentor can work. And so on.

324 The DHS story revolves around WaPo story about DC. 5 Restaurants raided had 131 illegal employees that they had to fire.

That tells you how big the problem is including your own locale. Restaurants, construction, agriculture, and hotels are probably some of the biggest employers of illegals. And DHS can go and check I-9 forms and cross reference for discrepancies at the employers, once the employers are notified about these suspect employees, then they have to either a) fire them, b) have the employee come up with legitimate documentation of immigration status, c) or face charges and fines themselves of being a knowing employer of illegals.

326 Democrats are such hypocrites.

That is how it appears, but underneath they are highly susceptible to manipulation ala Mimetic Theory.

The idea here is that they have no core ideas, beliefs or desires that are of their own, they are manipulated by external forces to emotionally connect to an idea, "belief" or desire. Emotions are fickle and thus they can be steered, accelerated and slowed through crowds, trigger words, drugs and constantly being On Tilt so that there is never a chance for the intellect to step in and intervene.

The Scriptures refer to humans as "sheep", herd animals that are easily provoked, spooked, steered and otherwise favor the grass that their shepherd guides them to.

They just have demonic shepherds, and they constantly hear those voices.

That attitude helped a lot during the Great Sniffle Crisis. I took child the younger grocery shopping with me once and pointed out the people walking around the store with a mildly panicked expression. I told child that they came to the store with a plan and store lacks the ingredients for that plan. Go to the store, get what you can, make a plan from what you got.

There are a whole lot of moving parts in politics. Objectively, Paxton is much closer to Trump in policy and probably personally so this shouldn't even be a question but it is for some reason.

Nobody saw Daines dropping out 10 minutes before the filing deadline but not only did he do it he endorsed his successor at the same time. That obviously wasn't a coincidence, insiders knew. I'd rather have Paxton but if Trump goes with Cornyn I don't think it will be without a good reason.

348 Whig, I used to work with labor law, and some tax law, and a period in working in personnel in ag. The issue with illegals using stolen SSNs and serially using names is huge.
Contractors, janitors, restaurants, labor contract businesses, child care, you name it. It was made worse because the illegals were always afraid that if they complained about conditions and unpaid wages they would be deported.
Farm labor in camps, subject to Migrant and Seasonal Protection Act actually had better access to redress than someone working for a contractor in the same job, just the rules for setting and managing labor camps got so repressive that farmers stopped providing them.

I always suspected that the labor contractors held names and SSNs and just plugged the new guys into those names when they got them.
