Evening and morning for an ealry March Tiu's Day, ever'body. I'm up early thanks to a certain giant black cat leaping across me starting at three am. I'm trying not to reward him for doing it -- I get up, but I don't play with him or give him more than the usual attention, and I don't feed him until five am anyway. I wish I knew how to stop this behavior!
Anyway, I'm up, I'm sipping coffee, what more d'ya want? Who are the young couple in the music video, the B & W portion? At first I thought the girl might be a very young Jane Fonda, but now I don't think so. Some French film? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 03, 2026 04:50 AM (wzUl9) 22

Aelfred The Great retweeted Spencer A. Klavan @SpencerKlavan 10h Kids who pass off foundational cognitive tasks like memorization to AI will be lost in an ocean of people just like them, all powerless to think their own thoughts, dependent on bad mechanical imitations of mental acts they have no capacity to perform or judge for themselves. They’ll grow up into glazed-over subaltern dupes at the mercy of machinists who view them as little more than farm animals to milk for training data. You could hardly do a worse disservice to a young person right now than to empty out the contents of their soul and strip them of the mental armor that only a rigorous literary education can provide. And all in the name of some gullible claptrap about humanity and tech that wouldn’t stand up to five minutes’ scrutiny if the people peddling it and swilling it down had ever read a single thing worth reading. math alert:
Aelfred The Great retweeted vixhaℓ @TheVixhal 17h If you shuffle a deck of cards properly, the exact order you get has almost certainly never existed before in human history and never will again. The number of possible arrangements of 52 cards is 52 factorial, which works out to a number so large that it has 68 digits. To put it in perspective: even if every person who ever lived shuffled a deck once per second since the beginning of the universe, you would still barely scratch the surface of all possible arrangements. So every time you shuffle a deck, you are most likely holding a sequence that is completely unique in the history of the universe. @44/Skip: None of the news stories on this issue contain much more than some bare details, not enough to figure out how things escalated from a car crash to two homicides, even more injuries, and a dead dog.
This one's going to need a homicide investigation. News inside of Fairfax County, Virginia might carry a follow-up story, but I suspect the rest of the world will likely never hear more about what happened unless one or more involved is a sufficiently important person, or it ends up being an embarrassment for the State Department. The Linked-in in page for Llemondo shows he was an IT guy. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at March 03, 2026 05:57 AM (O7YUW) 55
