30 Hopper! Have we had this one before? It's welcome in any case.

That handsome beast does look much like Lassie. I haven't seen many collies in real life; the weather in Da Swamp is too hot and humid for a long-coated dog like that.

Are the trees really that blue, or is EH pushing the limits of his artistic license? Using the blueness to suggest evening light?

Edward Hopper

National Gallery of Art:
Edward Hopper
Painter, American, 1882 - 1967

In part - The artist stated: “It is no transcription of a place, but pieced together from sketches and mental impressions of things in the vicinity. . . . The dry, blowing grass can be seen from my studio window in the late summer or autumn. In the woman I attempted to get the broad, strong-jawed face and blond hair of a Finnish type of which there are many on the Cape. The man is a dark-haired Yankee. The dog is listening to something, probably a whippoorwill [sic] or some evening sound.”

I love this to end the week.

Thank you.

"Peppy" is a bit of a wild child befitting of that kind of heritage.

125 An interesting chart:

https://x.com/QuantusInsights/status/
2029612475466096881

We tested the relationship in this chart (Texas primary / Texas general elections 2000–2024) and it’s basically noise:
• correlation r ≈ 0.13 (R² ≈ 0.02)
• a 10-point swing in the primary maps to ~0.4 points in the general

-----

Essentially, turnout during a primary is not at all indicative of performance in a general election. If it were, Obama would have won Texas in 2008. He did not win Texas in 2008.

134 This is lovely. Muted colors suitable for evening, no sense of wind, just quiet and relaxed at the end of the day. The soft textures of the trees and grass against the harder lines of the house could seem incongruent but the house is old, probably Victorian era, and has become part of the landscape. The red brick foundation is straight (well built) and solid and the paint is maintained and the decorative carvings over the stoop show the home is valued. Only the dog (which, of course, makes this art) is alert and active. The place and people are comfortably quiet. It makes me want to go "Ahhh!"

Part of the appeal for me is nostalgia. I'm old enough to remember Cape Cod as a pleasant, seaside community, not some loud fashionable fag haven. A nice touch is the red tin roof on the left. Those were easy to maintain and made a pleasant sound during rainy days and nights.

One of the other comments was perhaps more accidentally revealing, "Why do you rightwingers think people that have issues working should have to grind to have a decent living?"

I just assume that the turnout differentials that arise from parties out of power performing better than parties in power in midterms plays out this year.

But, gerrymandering after 2020 is so strong (the emphasis was really on expanding safe seats, not maximizing the number of seats won, especially in red states) that the number of actually competitive seats is so small. It's less than 30.

That will direct investment and prevent any major swings either way, meaning that we'll probably see a change of 10-15 at a maximum.

Still, a lot of open questions about the utility of fed grants for election funding, the effects of DOJ suing for voter roll cleanups, and kind of a generalized feeling of success from the Trump administration on the base that will lead to perhaps modified voting patterns.

206 176 I saw an interesting discussion today. Someone asks, why do socialists assume the least motivated, least effort people in our society will work had for the common good when they won't even work hard for their own good right now?

The answers from the left were...interesting.

The most common was "give them a reason to work hard and they will". But...this is refuted by the original statement. Right now these people are in aggregate not working let alone not working hard.

One of the other comments was perhaps more accidentally revealing, "Why do you rightwingers think people that have issues working should have to grind to have a decent living?"
Posted by: 18-1 at March 06, 2026 10:06 AM (sKqQm)

The honest answer from a socialist would be : "Because we're going to kill them if they don't."

224 Still, a lot of open questions about the utility of fed grants for election funding, the effects of DOJ suing for voter roll cleanups, and kind of a generalized feeling of success from the Trump administration on the base that will lead to perhaps modified voting patterns.

I think this first one is big. While the money supply to leftwing activists isn't gone, it has been significantly reduced.

Fewer people in the fraud industry and there will be less fraud. Now two interesting aspects to this

1) Can they easily control who gets the remaining money? For example make that NGO worker that submits ballots for illegals move from Philly or Baltimore to some purplish area?

2) Did CA cut their redistricting too close where significant reductions in fake votes means they lost a ton of seats?

The answers from the left were...interesting.

The most common was "give them a reason to work hard and they will". But...this is refuted by the original statement. Right now these people are in aggregate not working let alone not working hard.

One of the other comments was perhaps more accidentally revealing, "Why do you rightwingers think people that have issues working should have to grind to have a decent living?"

Vinegar – Mix one cup of white or apple cider vinegar into a bathtub of cool water. The acetic acid in the vinegar acts as a topical pain reliever equivalent to an over-the-counter pain medication. Then Aloe Vera, teabags, vitamin D...

Yeah, but he makes a mean martini.

362 348 And David Boreanaz - Rockford Files, it says "in development".

I want a Browncoat reboot as much, if not more than the next guy, but be honest. It's been 26 years. If it was going to happen, it would have.

WOW... A Rockford Files reboot would be so fucking risky! I'd put the odds of success at like 5%.

I was an innocent bystander. The state cops let me and my friend go, just told us to stop hitchhiking on 93 which we did. Until they left.

364 We need it to come back just so the Horde starts making references to Saffron all the time again.

I don't think I'd want a reboot...the same characters with different actors. I'd want a new ship and crew in the same universe. More Star Trek TOS to TNG, less Star Trek TOS to Kurzman films with Chris Pine or whatever.

He got James Garner's daughter's blessing. She thinks he'll do it justice. Tom Selleck is going to guest appear.Elba!

He made guest appearances in the original.

I'm thinking that little guy from always sunny as angel.

Already seen a lot of articles and publicity, so it definitely seems in the works. I'm not clear about how it would work, a lot of what went on in the original series just doesn't hold up in 2026, in some cases simply because technology outran some of his tactics.

Yeah, I don't think anybody can live up to Garner. He was one of those Hollywood one-of-a-kinds, like Carey Grant or Spencer Tracy.
