BAFTA Tourettes Incident Pits the People Who Cancel Over #Racism Against the People Who Cancel Over "Abelism"
The BAFTAs are a low-rent knock-off of the Golden Globes for the UK only.
A film had been nominated for an award, called I Swear. It's about a Tourette's syndrome advocate, who happens to be afflicted with Tourette's himself. The movie shows him being beaten up and otherwise suffering because the Tourette's causes him involuntarily to curse or otherwise say inappropriate, offensive things. (I think he may be a commenter here.) Two Americans, Michael B. Jordan and Deroy Lindo, were presenters at the awards show. They had to import two Americans because Britain only has like six "stars" and they were all busy filming Poroit episodes or Doctor Who. These two Americans are black. Black people were presenting awards in front of man suffering from Tourette's. A man who frequently gets beaten up because his brain unconsciously decides what would be the worst possible thing he could say in a situation, and then makes him say it. When I was a very little girl I was told the n word was not nice. Mother said only trashy people said this. So I never did, not being trashy and being nice.
My brother and I learned new words when my mother was taking our gardenner home (he came now and then from the city), and our maid who raised us from babies. To keep us out of our grandmother's detached garage, he'd tell us the "Sack Man" lived there. We thought HE was the sack man, so that was enough. He probably had a moonshine operation going.
All this to say I led a colorful childhood.

It is frankly, often hilarious as she is in public and randomly yells her obscenities but it also shows plenty of downsides of living life with these tics, OCD, and numerous other ramifications that comes with this. My favorite episode is when she and her mother are in Dulles airport in the TSA line on their way to a Tourette's Syndrome Conference and she starts yelling about having a gun and bombs Her mother explains to TSA/Police what is going on and has paperwork to show them as proof. At the conference are many people of all colors, backgrounds, etc. Yes, many blacks were there as well. It is definitely not an easy life.
This Grace Randolph bitch understood exactly what this was but had to play act this out for attention and the outrage factor.

She was very drunk and high. Lost control of her car and hit a house. Then everything burst into flames. After the emergency crew were able to get her out, they had her on a stretcher and for a brief moment she was able to sit up and turn, looking around. She was 90% dead at that point. It is an image that I try to force out of my mind when I think of it, but my brain goes ahead and makes me think about it.

My grandmother spent the last years of her life suffering from alzheimers/dementia and couldn't really "speak" in response to anything that was said around her or to her--the best she could usually offer was a small smile. But one time a visiting preacher visited her with my mom in the room. The preacher spoke for a minute or two, and then told my grandmother "I'm going to sing a hymn you might like" (my grandmother had always been in the church choir). He started singing "Shall we gather at the River" and my mom said my grandmother joined in almost instantly.

The people giving the award should have taken that opportunity to explain that this is not offensive because it’s not on purpose, and the more stress there is, the worse it gets.
