Giraffe MMA Cafe

Not giraffes

This cold has me flat on my back.

Smol. Also smol.

Not smol.

Cat is 20 years young. Joe Scarborough just emailed me to call this "the most cogent, most aware, best version of this cat, ever, and f*** you if you disagree."

Bear and cub.

Puppy needs to calm the hell down.

Fetch the stick.

Sheep does not go easy on the baby. Head-butts will be given freely to all.

On to the giraffe MMA.

Sparring by male giraffes has been commonly reported since its first description in 1958 and is believed to play a role in establishing male dominance hierarchies. However, despite being often documented, quantitative investigations of sparring behaviour are currently lacking. Here, we investigate the factors affecting the frequency, duration and intensity of sparring bouts in a population of giraffes Giraffa camelopardalis giraffa living on a private fenced reserve in Limpopo, South Africa. We show that sparring bouts were most frequently observed in young adults, and between males that were more evenly matched in size. Sparring bouts between males of similar body size were also characterised by being of high intensity and of short duration. Taken together, these results support the suggestion that sparring functions principally to provide maturing males a means of testing their competitive ability without escalating to full-scale fights. Additionally, mature bulls intervened on young adults possibly to disable any winner effect achieved by the latter, with the most dominant bull being responsible for the majority of interventions. For the first time, we also show that individuals displayed strong laterality when engaged in sparring: individuals consistently preferred delivering blows from either their left or right side, and these preferences dictated the orientation of sparring bouts (whether head-to-head or head-to-tail).

First, some low-intensity neck wrestling, or "necking."

Below, giraffes "sparring" by using their heads like weighted whips to pound each other.

I did not know this.

Another giraffe fight:

Two people on twitter confirmed that giraffes do fight by using their heads a flails.

Another great giraffe combat.

This giraffe fight is narrated by National Geographic. The fight ends with a knockout. One giraffe clocks the other so hard on the head to give him a concussion and drop him.

Giraffe rescue:

Just so you don't think giraffes are bloodthirsty monsters:

28 First game drive I went on we left the lodge early, about 6 am before the sun was up. They gave us blankets because it was chilly. We're driving along his trail and the trail takes a left and heads down a little hill with a bunch of brush in front of us.

Driver stops and just as the sun is coming up a giraffe head chewing on some leaves appears from behind the brush. Then another, and another .. about 7 of them in all. Just staring us and chewing on leaves while we are staring at them. Very cool animals and very chill.

48 "Does any species attack and eat giraffes?"

The flesh of the young giraffe is said to be good eating. The Hottentots hunt the animal principally on account of its marrow, which, as a delicacy, they set a high value on.

The Hottentots have a curious mode of cooking their antelope venison, which renders it, however, exceedingly palatable. After stewing the meat in a very small quantity of water, they take it out of the pot and pound it between two stones until reduced to the consistency of pap, when they mix it with a considerable quantity of sheep’s fat, and then stew it for a short time longer.

If the Dems had gotten totally wiped out in 2024 like Reagan stomped Mondale in 1984, I might agree but I think the Dems are now female dominated and if not an AWFUL or a POC, then they are not interested in them for the top job. And they hate anyone taking the side of Israel or Jews because of their newcomers from the Middle East like Tlaib, Omar, etc.

Their positions are increasingly more like performance art and virtue signalling than actual campaigning. Then again, that is what the whole protest culture is about--hectoring, bullying, threatening by force of numbers, etc. And not persuasion.

78 From Grok for the Penguin Promotion Board:

"Penguin poop earns its reputation for being seriously pungent, especially from species like Adélie penguins that chow down on krill and fish. The high nitrogen content breaks down into ammonia gas, giving it that classic sharp, fishy-ammonia stench (one vivid comparison likens it to old cigarette tobacco soaked in ammonia, mixed with rotten shrimp, and left in the sun). In dense colonies, where penguins poop every 5–15 minutes and the stuff piles up (sometimes visible from space as pinkish-brown stains on the ice), the smell hits you before you even spot the birds. Researchers who've handled it in labs have called it "the most vile thing you can imagine," and it repels krill too—the tiny crustaceans zigzag away and lose their appetite when they catch a whiff."

Stop hearing the noise for a moment and let's focus on this.
Delcy and her cartel are NOT the legitimate authorities.
Venezuela will have legitimate authorities and will be able to be a reliable partner of the US and the Caribbean, after passing the stabilization stage, the reconstruction stage and then the transition stage.

Delcy Eloína has a peremptory role, in case we have any doubts.

I really have no idea what the law is, regarding former military personnel, and foreign governments. The guy retired in 1996 though. If he broke a law, how much damage can he have done though, training Chinese pilots?

If he's giving them training on 1996 planes, maybe it's a good thing he was teaching the Chinamen on old skill sets and tactics.

195 I’ve been to Mexico before the cartels took over everything and it was a pretty amazing place, some things there I liked better than here. We think of Mexico as leaning socialist because the government always sucks; but in many ways that was the most free market / libertarian society I’ve ever been in.

I’d say that the marvel of Mexico, and also the curse of Mexico, is that they have a lot of rules - but nobody in that society, from top to bottom, gives a shit about following any rules.

Even when the American government has the best of intentions, their efforts have a tendency to backfire.

One of the more common occurrences is training "insurgents" in lands where we think they'll be good at picking off our enemies at the time.

Eventually they turn their tactics on us. Al Qaeda is just one of our more embarrassing examples.

Of course! I understand completely. I was just being silly about the whole "intel" service for fed agencies, and couldn't think of anyone else.

How are we supposed to get new giraffes then?

259 I know folks who own rural property in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri.

Met labs are... a problem.

Arson is one of those things that should have the harshest punishment available. The destruction can be unbelievable (as we've seen throughout the West), and it has been a known form of terrorism in the ME.

One of the coolest jobs one of my son's employees have is going up into the hills to feed the horses.

Last summer some family opened a gate to enter where the horses were and failed to close the gate when they left.

One of the horses exited the gate and hot a hoof caught in the animal grid. Son was heartbroken because he had to go up there and shot the horse. There was no way to save the horse.

The usual way is mitosis. It is messy, but it far more successful than budding.

That probably works better than the usual way.

Baby giraffes have to fall about 8' at birth. I'm sure the casualty rate is very high. Even if there weren't lions and hyaenas everywhere waiting for them to bloom.

267 then you got the assholes who toss cigarette butts out the window when driving. I see a lot of small brush fires where you can spot the point of ignition, right on the side of the road. idiots.

----------

We frequently find cigarette butts on our property off a relatively busy neighborhood thoroughfare -- which is really annoying as we live in an area susceptible to wildfires.

The most frequent cause of wildfires in Northern AZ are idiots pulling trailers and dragging their chains. They will start a chain of several wildfires along the major roads up here ...
