If you're a waitress, you're an undiscovered superstar just waiting for your big shot; but if you take a job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you're just a car rental agent. Donkey-Chompers' stint as a waitress is not evidence of her "working class" background but her real background as a child of privilege with no actual talent to sell in the job market and a snobby attitude towards the real work that most people do. I think, and I could be wrong, but a lot of Congressional staffers are hired out of a pool. Yea, some are ideological clones, but many, especially at low, entry level positions are just there to wipe asses. They are "coached" and learn what the talking points of the week are, what legislation is "good," what's "bad."
The scary thing is that some of them are really zealous about it. And their charge is typically an idiot.

I had a woman supervisor at a consulting job once. She was pretty nice, worked at a division of an mortgage company that was supposed to be given a record of customers wanting to refinance so her team could call them up and steal them back. But the data for her team to work on was mysteriously missing elements so she had to come in on saturdays and by hand compare her list with the records. Turned out they had 2 IT departments that hated each other so their IT department had a screen reading program in a PC database that was buggy so many lines were rejected due to format errors. The rejects were saved in a separate table that when I showed her she was so happy to have since she could get almost all the missing records just from them. I did ask why they didn't fix her input program OR get records from the other IT department and she rolled her eyes in disgust. A nice boss for her team, they all liked her.
