Apply that to the entire universe of 'influencers' and former journalists in this age. They are in it to get paid and paid attention to and not particularly picky about who picks up the tab.

Fun fact, L. Ron Hubbard used to be house visitor frequently to Robert A. Heinlein's LA house for a time. Heinlein knew Jack Parsons pretty well also. Given Leslyn, RAH's first wife, was a alcoholic skank and RAH was into swinger lifestyle, I suspect Hubbard and Parsons 'knew' Leslyn.

When you cut out the stars that can’t possibly support life, it gets a whole lot smaller. In our own galaxy I’ve seen reasonable estimates of systems that might potentially support life in the hundreds, and lower. It all depends on what assumptions you make about what is required for life to develop, and then your assumptions about what it takes for intelligent life to develop.

That's handwaving bullshit that doesn't at all account for what conditions are essential to the development of life (let alone intelligent life) and how often those specific conditions are statistically likely to occur. You really can't say whether or how likely life is likely to be without a coherent theory as to how life arises in the first place. And all we have there, if we're being honest, is equally handwavy bullshit about hot pools and amino acids. It's not math or statistics in any scientifically rigorous way.

I did no such thing. I wrote both of life and of intelligent life, because this discussion is covering both topics. There are additional assumptions that must be made for intelligent life, of which we know even less than for life, of which we know practically nothing.

In 1942 the allies were getting their ass kicked. Bad. Pearl Harbor fleet was nearly destroyed. Fears of an invasion, the west coast, were very real.

You have to read history closely to begin to understand. It’s also worth noting the US government wasn’t leaving anything to chance. World War 2 was a close run thing. The USA had its ass in the wind.

183 This happened to me. I went on a tour of holy sites in Israel with a church group. There were around 60 of us. It was a classic tour group, complete with Israeli tour guide. When we were leaving the country, a few of us were pulled aside apparently at random and asked questions. One of the questions was where we bought some artifact -- and old coin, as I remember. My wife and I remembered differently and started bickering about it. After about five or six minutes of listening to us argue, the border guy said it really didn't matter, and waved us through.
