After all the fuss, OpenClaw, fomerly Moltbot, formerly Clawdbot until Anthropic made rumbling noises, isn't all that. (Tech Crunch)

What it does achieve is making it the easy things easy and the bad things also easy. Some people who really should know better jumped into the cheerleading:
"What's currently going on at [Moltbook] is genuinely the most incredible sci-fi takeoff-adjacent thing I have seen recently," Andrej Karpathy, a founding member of OpenAI and previous AI director at Tesla, wrote on X at the time.

Before long, it became clear we did not have an AI agent uprising on our hands. These expressions of AI angst were likely written by humans, or at least prompted with human guidance, researchers have discovered.

"Every credential that was in [Moltbook's] Supabase was unsecured for some time," Ian Ahl, CTO at Permiso Security, explained to TechCrunch. "For a little bit of time, you could grab any token you wanted and pretend to be another agent on there, because it was all public and available."
There were in fact a hundred times as many accounts on Moltbook as there were Moltbots.

Moltbook was a hopelessly insecure social network for Moltbots, which is... Also hopelessly insecure.
Ahl's security tests of OpenClaw and Moltbook help illustrate Sorokin's point. Ahl created an AI agent of his own named Rufio and quickly discovered it was vulnerable to prompt injection attacks. This occurs when bad actors get an AI agent to respond to something - perhaps a post on Moltbook, or a line in an email - that tricks it into doing something it shouldn't do, like giving out account credentials or credit card information.

10 Regarding the 700 watt draw CPU, that’s roughly shy of 6 amps. What does the rest of the machine consume. I’m trying to in layman’s terms get a perception of how much power and infrastructure a server farm with 1,000s, or tens of thousand's of these chips and the attendant cooling and support systems really uses. And wow that’s a lot of current draw. Dwarfs a 400 amp service that is typical for a very large home.

15 I finally looked up the source of the idiom "talking his book," since that's what all the Gen AI insiders are obviously doing, but I couldn't remember if it came from bookies or stockbrokers. According to Brave Search's AI summary (after doing a follow-up question for clarification), it comes specifically from a trader's "position book," from back when that was how current investments were recorded.

It's perfectly natural. As Upton Sinclair said, it's nigh impossible to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it. And, it's not just any old cognitive bias; in the preface to Dr. Cialdini's seminal work "Influence," he noted that he would not be discussing the power of incentive, since that's actually a rational response and his topic was irrationality (typically, useful cognitive shortcuts misapplied or exploited).

Sadly, reading quotes from AI promoters, they sound a bit like LLMs themselves, a bit uncannily like real people but not quite. Like NPCs delivering the precise statement for driving desired behavior, with no concern for truth value; that is for humans to worry about, not executives.

I have a very rudimentary understanding of electrical magic so I’m still grinding through this. If typical US residential service is 120 volts but transmission lines are much higher, does it generally follow that the amperage, or capacity of a cross country line must scale logarithmically to move the power these data centers will use?

Under base workloads it will draw 14 amps.

Roughly the same number of amps as a space heater at max.

And that's about it for Mardi Gras. My French ancestry is minimal at best, I'm Protestant, and I'm from Western PA and live in Babylon DC. Not too many connections to NO, except visiting it once. Preferred the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I did love it there, would not live there though. The summers are brutal and both times I was there was summer time. Still had fun, but damn, it's like a giant humidifier inside an oven.

64 So in the continuing saga of upgrading the home television system...ATSC 3.0, aka NextGen TV.

I knew that the tv I chose did not have a 3.0 tuner, as Samsung only puts them in their highest end tier of TV's. With my thought process being to go with an external tuner box to upgrade to the 3.0 format. And with the charleston area OTA broadcasts almost all offering the 3.0 format as well, even MeTV, it seems to make sense.

But recent events with the FCC, and an emerging war over DRM kinda makes me want to take a 'Wait and see' position toward the buying on an external box. Lots of stuff shaking out in the courts in the last month or so make me wonder if any of us know which direction the 3.0 format is gonna go.

One of many reasons I plan to flee. And the summers are getting longer. I recall it used to be chilly at least for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and not to warm unpleasantly until mid-March. Now it's often sticky-warm until late December, the city gets a cold spell in January, and by mid-February the A/C has to go back on.

93 In the past week, there was a link to an article about how 'helpful' forum posters would provide a malicious line of command code and ask you to run it in PowerShell or a command line. From there, it'd do something like pull another script payload, and then execute that thanks to how the copy/pasted code was entered (in the one example, it runs another command line, based on the malicious response of another command).

With AI agents scraping the web for their content to post, particularly from supposedly-helpful sites, I foresee a LOT of prompt injection attacks waiting for these vulnerable, shoddily-coded web crawlers. Could get REALLY nasty, especially since there's not a lot of safeguards - see examples of said AI agents "apologizing" after deleting everything even when it was told not to touch anything.
