Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump Ends Obama Executive Order Giving the EPA the Power to Regulate Carbon Dioxide Without Any Congressional AuthorizationThat's clumsy. Putting it differently: Congress never authorized the EPA to treat carbon dioxide as "pollution." Barack Obama lawlessly arrogated himself that power and declared that carbon dioxide -- a naturally occurring molecule that has always been present in our atmosphere and indeed is absolutely necessary for plant growth -- was "pollution." And then began "regulating" it as he saw fit. Trump just reversed that and the left is very, very bitter and sad.US President Donald Trump has reversed a key Obama-era scientific ruling that underpins all federal actions on curbing planet-warming gases. The so-called 2009 "endangerment finding" concluded that a range of greenhouse gases were a threat to public health. It's become the legal bedrock of federal efforts to rein in emissions, especially in vehicles. The White House called the reversal the "largest deregulation in American history", saying it would make cars cheaper, bringing down costs for automakers by $2,400 per vehicle. Environmental groups say the move is by far the most significant rollback on climate change yet attempted and are set to challenge it in the courts. Speaking in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said the 2009 ruling was "a disastrous Obama era policy that severely damaged the American auto industry and massively drove up prices for American consumers". "This radical rule became the legal foundation for the Green New Scam, one of the greatest scams in history," added the Republican president, about the Democrats' climate agenda. Former President Barack Obama, who infrequently comments on the policies of sitting presidents, said that repealing the finding would make Americans more vulnerable. "Without it, we'll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change -- all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money," he wrote on X. Lee Zeldin

I refused to buy a 2017 Buick in 2019 because it had the ASS, the Auto Stop-Start feature -- and which couldn't be turned off. Yes, you could buy a $150 gadget that plugged into the OBDII port and would turn it off. But you shouldn't have to do that.
My 2015 BMW 3 Series had it, and it was seamless. And you could turn it off and the car would remember the setting. But it was not something I wanted. I'm glad to hear they don't have to force this on us any more. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 13, 2026 05:27 PM (wzUl9) 21

The Science told me that I can be healthy at any size. The Science told me that sexual promiscuity is healthy. The Science told me that my diet should be based on starch, with minimal protein. To hell with The Science. There is value in science as an approach and methodology and means of thought. There is value in some scientists. And, thanks to The Science, I have to work harder than ever to discern that, and to avoid throwing the baby out with the bathwater. But the baby is probably getting tossed. Their obsession with coal is particularly insane because even as fossil fuels go, it's expensive and inefficient. That is precisely why they are obsessed with it. Easier to manipulate the market that way and rake in all the money they can as fast as they can. Capitalism, the worst thing we ever came up with. Why renewables aren’t seen as the capitalist success story they clearly are is beyond me. These people are supposed to love entrepreneurship and job creation. "We are bringing back coal!!!" What caused it to disappear? None of these fucking plants closed due to government mandates. It was because it wasn't economically viable. USA is the “Saudi Arabia” of high quality coal. #1 in the world. Hundreds of years worth of proven reserves.
I always found it very curious that starting about 25 years ago, it became the bastard step child of energy. The truth is America needs all forms of energy, and coal is good option for base load power generation. It’s here, literally waiting to be picked up out of the ground. Importantly the industry itself also pays good wages, good careers, and those dollars circulate here in the US and provide much needed revenue for state and local governments. Coal, oil, gas, nuclear, wind, and solar all have a place. The government should not be meddling and stifling our national security. Posted by: Common Tater at February 13, 2026 06:10 PM (Oj76K) 251

A vast amount of the Earth's original carbon is tied up in the miles of carbonate rocks (limestone and its buddies) that cover much of the Earth's surface. Literal miles of solid carbonate rock. Only a tiny minority of it wound up as fossil fuels. It's not physically possible for the Earth to "turn into Venus" because the carbon just isn't there. Congress specifically REJECTED this expansion of EPA's powers. The clean air act (CIA) listed a number of pollutants to be regulated. It included a mechanism to add additional pollutants - an endangerment finding.
The problem was carbon dioxide isn't a pollutant. It's not toxic and is a normal part of the atmosphere. The CAI was meant to deal with pollutants that had toxic or injurious effects on human health and the environment. Not something like climate change. Worse, the endangerment finding was filled with speculative science, a great deal of which was disproven. At any time since 2009, congress has had the ability to amend the CAI and include climate change. They have not done that. Since the endangerment finding was not just poor science, but entirely inappropriate to the law. It should be tossed out completely. Posted by: The Whine Guy at February 13, 2026 06:13 PM (tV890) 265

I feel like I read somewhere that the left was trying to get one of their cartel judges to rule that the EPA couldn't do this because of some bs about how the committee that made the recommendation for the change wasn't properly formed or some dumb shit.
Of course the cartel judge will agree. And ignore direct and binding SCOTUS precedent from last term. The one on the copper mine case out of NV, where they said this bullshit of endless review of endless committees is not the law, that agencies don't have to follow these reviews to issue rules, and not following does not give the Lesser Piuteman Tribe of Greater Pandora standing no matter how "sacred" they claim the affected land is to them. In addition, the supreme court has said, many times they have a major issues rule. That is to say, agency rulemaking is fine if not specifically in the law as long as it doesn't cross into a major issue. For example, treating abortion as a health crisis and using CDC funds on it was ruled no bueno. Supreme court says such a decision must go to congress.
EPA made a decision that cost trillions of $ with the endangerment finding. This is fundamentally WHY the supreme court will uphold this decision by EPA - because EPA should never have been empowered to make this decision. By the way this just covers cars and trucks. For power plants, Obama pushed a second rule that was rejected by the courts. Posted by: The Whine Guy at February 13, 2026 06:17 PM (tV890) 283

Because I have not matured since JFK was killed, this has always baffled me. On one hand, eradicate CO2. On the other hand, save the rain forests! Ask Greta Thundermug! I vote to send the Dims who had any part of this idea to the Amazon rain forests and introduce them to the tribes who kill you on the spot with spears as they don't like invaders. Which is what we should have done with illegals on the southern border. These natives, wearing strips of clothing around their waists only, and hiding their women and children, swarm you.
