The Morning Report — 2/13/26

Morning Report intro.jpg

Good morning kids. No triskaidekaphobia here... In taking down the Maduro regime in Venezuela and reinvigorating the Monroe Doctrine, President Trump has perhaps put himself in a bit of a pickle?

Russia has indicated it will defy U.S. sanctions and other restrictions enacted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump against the exportation of oil to Cuba. In what the Kremlin is describing as a “humanitarian” arrangement, the Russian Embassy in Havana states that “as far as we know, Russia is expected to supply oil and petroleum products to Cuba as humanitarian aid in the near future.”The decision by the Russian government comes as Cuba faces its worst energy crisis in at least a decade. Following the ouster of Venezuela’s Marxist dictator, Nicolás Maduro, by the U.S. military earlier this year, Cuba lost a key supplier of oil and fuel, turning what was already a dire situation facing the Caribbean island’s communist government into an unprecedented crisis.

Of course Russia has had a longstanding relationship with Cuba going back to the Soviet era as a forward base of communism right on our doorstep so to speak. With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Estern bloc, the Cuban economy has essentially been on life support, propped up by the Latin American Communist dictatorships that both the Soviets and the Castro regime helped foster over the past 66 years. And with Maduro gone and much of Latin America turning away from socialism towards freer and more open societies, Cuba might very well be at long last on the verge of liberation.

Aside from the aforementioned longstanding ties, My guess is that Putin is trying to use Cuba as a way to leverage a more advantageous outcome with Ukraine vis a vis the supposed peace negotiations.

So the question is, weird as it is the same as it was in 1963 during the Cuban missile crisis, what will the US Navy do if it encounters a Russian tanker or cargo ship heading towards Cuba on the high seas?

Russia is at best a major rival if not a strategic enemy of the United States, but what the hell is Mexico's excuse?

Two Mexican Navy ships docked in Cuba on Thursday carrying humanitarian aid for the Caribbean island nation in the middle of a severe energy crisis.

The ships carried hundreds of tons of food and supplies. The Mexican government said that one ship contained 536 tons of food – including milk, beans, sardines, and cookies – while the other contained about 277 tons of powdered milk, according to the Associated Press.

The arrival of aid comes weeks after President Donald Trump increased pressure on the Cuban economy, threatening tariffs against any nation that supplies Cuba with oil. Cuba has since instituted increasingly strict rules around the use of its remaining fuel supplies. . .

. . . “The energy pressure that Trump is exerting on Cuba places Mexico in a dilemma that is very characteristic of its entire history of diplomatic relations with the United States and Cuba,” Cuban historian Rafael Rojas told The Guardian. “Mexico is yielding to the demands of the United States – and on the other hand it maintains its solidarity with the island.”
. . . “I don’t think it’s any mystery that we are not big fans of the Cuban regime, who, by the way, are the ones that were propping up Maduro,” (Secretary of State Marco)Rubio said the day after Maduro’s arrest.

We took out Maduro because he was running tons of lethal drugs into America and had very close ties with both the Chi-Coms and the Iranians, all of which posed an incredible threat to our national security as well as the safety of our citizenry. Considering the illegal alien border invasion, the destruction and chaos that has come from Mexico for decades is arguably orders of magnitude worse!

Mexico's leader, Claudia Scheinbaum is an avowed socialist and no great fan of America. So, if we seize some Mexican ships or send them down to Davy Jones' Locker, what of it?

I certainly hope the long-suffering Cuban people can at long last taste freedom and move their country forward. To see the heads of leftists and Commies here explode as the statues and murals of the Castros, Marx and Lenin are dynamited and sledgehammered off the walls of Cuban buildings is just too delightful to anticipate.

¡Viva Trump, y Cuba Libré Ahora y Por Siempre!

I can't recall what day it was when Marie the black cat broke my mirror, though. If it had been a Fri. 13, I'd remember it, I'm sure.

16 Russian suppling oil to Cuba is probably unsustainable for very long while the Ukraine war rages.

Trump most likely either gets the end of the Ukraine war or the end of the Russian oil going to Cuba in the end - maybe both.

50 Sieze the Russian tankers as soon as they hit Cuban territorial waters. If a Russian Navy escort is present, give them an opportunity to leave with their lives, and if they won't, then sink them. This island is in our sphere of interest.

I understand that Ukraine belongs to Russia. I'm fine with leaving that poor country in his clutches, and that both Obama and Biden overstepped their bounds, and that we should get out of there.

But this is an amoral geopolitical question. Running our blockade is piracy and if it's done by their navy, it's an act of war.

The Commerce Secretary expressed he is confident President Trump’s policies will work to deliver affordable medicine made in the U.S.

“We have four years to get this done, and let me tell you, he’s going to get it done,” Lutnick said.

I got into a conversation with a cute Venezuelan girl who lives in Montreal 15 years ago or so, who truly believed the entire Castro "Blockade" lie.

"The bloackade is not fair, why can't American's send John Deere tractors to help out the poor farmers in Cuba?"

"First off, it's not a blockade, it's sanctions because Castro decided to expropriate a lot of American's properties when he took over. Second, there's nothing stopping Cuba from importing tractors from Europe or Japan. You know why they don't import tractors from Europe or Japan? Because the only thing they have to trade for it is sugarcane. Meanwhile you don't see any Americans down in Havana picking up the prostitutes there because it's mainly Canadians and Europeans taking them up on their offers."

She never brought up Cuba again.

Let the Russians and Mexicans divert assets to fuel Cuba. Cuba's a country on the edge not just because of lack of fuel, but because they did no maintenance or upgrades in their entire electrical sector.

160 150 Exactly. They coöperate which means more illegals scooped up per hour than the uncoöperative states.

Its like you have a high yield oil field where the petroleum just freely seeps out of the ground, but you insist on going to the most barren and difficult area to squeeze a few drops out of granite.

======

Well, the deportation force in non-sanctuary states includes every law officer working for the state since they hand over illegals to ICE.

That's not happening in non-sanctuary states, so DHS has to surge with its own forces.

246 Inflation is caused by the government printing more dollars because it is spending more money then it is taking in.

There are two ways to lower inflation: cut spending and raise taxes.

Tariffs are taxes, and as such are inherently anti-inflationary. The amounts of money we are taking about here is small compared to the deficit so the improvement in turn would be small, but they can't be inflationary.

And the funny thing is whenever the left acknowledges inflation their answer is ALWAYS raise taxes, never cut spending. But we've somehow found the one singular tax they oppose

I have long thought that we need a Constitutional Amendment which sets out:

- One unified tax (income, sales, property, whatever) with a total maximum. The percentage of the whole claimed by each level of government is to be specified - I'd argue that most of it should be reserved for more local governance.
- A requirement that each level of government spend no more than the amount brought in by that tax in the previous year. Any year without a budget, or with excess spending, everyone at that layer of government is removed from office and barred from ever serving in any capacity in any government ever.

Normal Senate rules allow for a cloture vote that stands in place of actual debate.

Actual debate can be enforced (the standing or talking filibuster, so to speak), as every Senate is given time to debate the bill, going through all 100 Senators until there's no one left. That replaces the cloture vote, and they can pass things with a 50+1 vote majority, the 60 vote majority being for the cloture vote which is no longer necessary.

But that requires Senators showing up to the Senate well for days in a row. It's a tall order.

Removal from office if offering opinions outside the jurisdiction granted to them by Congress.

District courts are not a co-equal branch with the executive or legislature. They need to be treated like the specialized, limited scope things that they are.

And what are the chances that even one of them reverses position? Why would he or she? What effective pressure could be applied?

The left wants to say it sooooo bad. They are soooo close. Sooooo close. Go ahead. Just say it.

"Blacks are too stupid to get id".

Say. It. You'll feel better.

322 307 The new promise to corporate America is that "AI will allow you to fire everyone and live on golden thrones in crystal palaces and hopefully one day we can just gas the ones we don't hunt for sport at our drug-fuelled AI music festivals in the desert."

I too think their reach will exceed their grasp, but it remains to be seen.

To be fair, I'd rather listen to AI music than about 90% of what actually gets released these days...

...well, at least until the novelty wears off.

Good start.

I would take a continuum of action. Judges rise based on good decisions and lack of more citizens being killed, molested, or robbed by a released prisoner.

But if someone you release kills another, or a case is overturned, then they drop in status, going down to municipal traffic court. From there, more mistakes ensure a removal from the legal profession.

Tie good decisions with job tenure.

Really, making up stuff on the internet has as much chance of being true as anything reported in the "news" these days.

Posted by: Ordinary American at February 13, 2026 09:03 AM (fZiTB)

332 But there's actually a chance that leadership won't need Collins because Fetterman has said he'd vote for the SAVE act.

So, if Thune goes through with the standing debate tactic, they could possibly pass the bill without any of the remaining 4. 49 + Fetterman + Vance.
