Unexpectedly, January Job Creation Numbers Double Expectations

In January, we created 172,000 non-farm jobs while eliminating 42,000 government jobs.

The stats subtract that 42,000 from the 172,000 to say we created 130,000 net jobs, but to me... um, I feel like adding those "lost" jobs into the "created" column because we want to reduce government "employment." It's a waste that drags down the productive sector of the economy.

BTW, "Biden's Miracle Economy" counted on an exploding government sector to make job "growth" look good in the statistics.

Oh, and most of the non-government jobs "created" went to literal foreigners.

January’s jobs report didn’t just beat expectations — it smashed them.

New data released Wednesday and highlighted by the White House shows private-sector hiring roaring past forecasts, wages climbing, and federal payrolls shrinking to levels not seen since the 1960s -- a combination the administration says underscores the defining traits of President Trump’s second-term economy: more workers in productive industries, fewer in government.

The economy added 172,000 private-sector jobs in January while shedding 42,000 government positions, pushing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%. Overall nonfarm job growth came in at 130,000 — more than double the projections from many economists surveyed ahead of the release. The strength was concentrated squarely in the private sector, particularly construction, where employment jumped by 33,000 jobs. Of those, 25,000 were in nonresidential specialty trades -- the largest monthly gain in five years -- as factory projects, energy investments, and data center construction continue accelerating.

Since the start of Trump’s second term, the White House says 615,000 private-sector jobs have been added, while federal employment has fallen to its lowest level since 1966 --and to the smallest share of the total workforce in recorded history. The contrast is deliberate: expansion driven by builders, manufacturers, and tradesmen rather than by bureaucratic growth in Washington.

Paychecks are moving in the right direction as well. Average weekly earnings for private-sector workers rose 0.7% in January alone. Since Trump returned to office, average weekly earnings have increased 4.3%, with hourly earnings up 3.7%. Prime-age labor force participation has climbed to its highest level since 2001, suggesting more Americans in their core working years are reentering the job market.

Now that Biden has been thrown out of office and is despised by the Democrat Party as well as all patriotic Americans, BLS no longer feels the need to pretend he created a lot of jobs. They continue "revising" his job numbers downward.

Perhaps most politically consequential were the revisions to prior data. According to the White House, updated figures show job growth during the final two years of the Biden administration was overstated by 1.9 million jobs from initial releases to current estimates.

11 Counting government employees the same as private sectors employees has always been absurd. They are a net loss to the economy not a gain.

There should be a separate category for them. And there should be a constitutional amendment that the number can never be higher than x% of the total population. Including contractors.

Bingo.

One government job equals one negative "job."

If a nation has 1 million government employees (such as totalitarian Warsaw Pact nations during the Cold War) and essentially zero private sector jobs, then actually they are not only at 100% unemployment, they're actually in the negative, and have 150% unemployment.

40 It's like that classic strip from the early days of Peanuts, when Linus first has to go to kindergarten, and discovers that not only does he start out with zero knowledge, but he had already been taught so many misconceptions by Lucy that first he has to spend a year "unlearning" everything he thought he already knew, before getting back to zero knowledge and then beginning to actually learn something true.

That's the way it is with government employment. First you need to fire 90% of government workers, and only then can your economy actually start to grow.

It’s the lowest number of actual physical employees since 1966. And the lowest % of workers ever.

But I’m skeptical of this since so much “employment” is through contractors. You don’t hire 10 people as govt employees, you instead hire a firm with 10 employees who work exclusively on government contracts. Those 10 people are technically not government workers but they are effectively.

In August Trump gutted BLS statisticians because they were not reporting news he liked. Does anyone trust the data, and what are the short and long term economic consequences of false BLS economic data?

82k healthcare + 42k social service are just jobs from government subsidies. The private sector continues to be crowded out and is not a sign of a strong economy at all

Even the construction numbers aren’t that rosy because 25k of the 30k is nonresidential, i.e. data center construction, so no houses are getting built

130k jobs in a month would have been considered mediocre 2 years ago. Now, it's one of the best reports we've gotten in a year. Job gains in 2025 since the April tariffs were 12k TOTAL, statistically indistinguishable from 0.

This isn't a good report. Definitely stagflationary = bad.

A reminder that Scott Adams reported his cancer soon after Biden reported his. And I had thoughts that it was a Rush Limbaugh-like parody, to try and demonstrate absurdity by being absurd. Using a cancer diagnosis to distract from issues at the time, and spoofing it.

Sadly, it was real, and Scott Adams is no longer with us. On one hand, his mind worked perfectly until the end. I think Scott even noted that he was sorry he couldn't do his show that very day because he knows he was going to pass on.

Compare to Biden's dementia, advanced age, and lack of grifting opportunities to keep the money flowing in for advanced health care.

You generated 150k jobs

If you have Biden numbers like

=======
Blue slipped vetoes because the Dems have controlled both of Michigan's Senate seats for well over a decade. Last GOP senator from that state was Spencer Abraham and he got cheated out of office in 2000 by Debby Stabenow.

Blue slip policies by the fossil Grassley and the Senate GOP on the Judiciary Committee are why 67 out of the 90 some odd federal district attorney positions are not confirmed despite being appointed. Something similar for district court judges, if no GOP senator is in office in the state, the Judiciary rules require two blue slips returned from the Dems of that state or the nominee never gets a vote.

Another relic, like the current filibuster practices, of Southern Democrats trying to keep segregation going. Both date from roughly the same time period around WWI under virulent racist Woody Wilson.

She tried to get healthy like a decade ago and posted pics of working out. Her fans jumped down her throat about how she was betraying them, and she gave up getting thinner to appease them. Plus she has endometriosis, which is a lot of pain.

237 Atlanta-based http://VoterGA.org just told me that the FBI raid of Fulton County's ballot warehouse will show that "Fulton certified [mostly Biden] votes for which they have no ballots.

__________________________

Wait, does that mean they cut out the "middle man" of actually creating bogus votes and just added to Biden's total? That's pretty ballsy.

I had suggested that there was the possibility of some states (Colorado, Maine) doing this since those states tried to remove Trump from the ballot illegally and had shown a willingness to step wayyyyy over the red line. Arizona, as well, hinted at that sort of strategy by sending out letters to all the precincts telling them it was illegal to do re-counts at their locations.

But, wow.

Then it blew the walls off of fundraising in 2023-2024, raising and spending $560 million only to lose all 7 swing states. The money arguably did get Harris 74 million votes and saved some races down-ballot.

261 I think the "lowest since 1966" thing is as a percentage number. So I think we can do better. Get it lower than the ACTUAL number of govt "workers" in 1966.
Posted by: BlackOrchid at February 11, 2026 01:17 PM (emBoF)

It’s the lowest number of actual physical employees since 1966. And the lowest % of workers ever.

But I’m skeptical of this since so much “employment” is through contractors. You don’t hire 10 people as govt employees, you instead hire a firm with 10 employees who work exclusively on government contracts. Those 10 people are technically not government workers but they are effectively.

265 Another win if considering a reduction in Federal employment.

However, many of the added jobs were in "social assistance" compassing services like home care for the elderly and/or disabled, individual and/or family services, and childcare.

It's a broad category in Labor statistics that focuses on non-profit and for-profit organizations providing aid to individuals and families. Ergo, a certain amount will result in Medicare and/or Medicaid fraud.

Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at February 11, 2026 02:16 PM (NFX2v)

266 So this is good. In MA they had a ballot initiative allowing the State Auditor to audit the state legislators (I know, weird, but she didn't have that power before).

The State Auditor is a Dem, but she actually wants to do her job. The governor and legislature told her, first , politely, to f*ck off, then not so politely - they've been calling her a Republican which is the kiss of death in MA.

Anyway, I saw this quote from the auditor and it gave me a chuckle, "I have been asked by fellow Democrats to stop talking about the audit because it is hurting other Democrats. I remind them that it’s the law-breaking behavior of those who have a D near their name that are acting like dictators and not Democrats"

Well to actually understanding the world you live in Ms DiZolgio
