Nicki Minaj Fans Say They’re Switching to Republican Party ![]() Nicki Minaj fans, known as “The Barbz,” are sharing their intentions online to switch to the Republican Party, following Minaj’s public shift to the right and alignment with the Trump administration. “Today is the day I switch to republican,” one Minaj fan wrote on X in a post viewed over 300,000 times, as Minaj’s pivot encourages her fans to follow suit. *** In November, Minaj appeared at the United Nations in support of the Trump administration to speak on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. In December, she was interviewed by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and the chairwoman of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization. Then, after sharing increasingly supportive social media posts of conservative politics and the Trump administration, Minaj met with Trump and described herself as “probably the president’s number one fan."Why are they called "Barbz"? Here's what Grok says "Barbz" (often stylized as The Barbz) is the official name for the dedicated fanbase of rapper, singer, and cultural icon Nicki Minaj. Origin of the NameNot sure if any of The Barbz have found AOSHQ. If so, welcome! ----- Gun Thread Spillover

Brad Arnold, the lead singer of 3 Doors Down, has died, the band confirmed in a Facebook post on Saturday. He was 47. The Grammy-nominated rocker announced in May he had been diagnosed with cancer. "As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners," the post reads. "Brad's songwriting became a cultural touchstone for a generation, producing some of the most enduring hits of the 2000s, including the band's breakout hit, 'Kryptonite,' which he wrote in his math class when he was just 15 years old." 3 Doors Down did not get the attention they deserve. Perhaps if they had hit the scene a decade or 2 earlier. ----- I don't know about you, but this here video changes my opinion on Voter ID.
Justin Bieber rolled up with Hailey in tow—him in Balenciaga, her in Alaia. If she snagged her dress first, they straight-up fumbled a golden opportunity to channel Gomez and Morticia Addams, shutting down divorce rumors with one killer gothic couple moment. But no, nuance clearly isn’t their love language. They were going for mature adult vibes, I suppose. Justin’s still drowning in clothes three sizes too big, a trend I don’t love. If he’s married to this baggy look, however, at least step up the shoes; his refined little loafers threw the whole balance off. Hailey, though? She served minimalist luxury perfection, the jewelry, sleek hair, flawless fit. It all worked seamlessly. Lady Gaga brought the drama in black feathers by Matières Fécales. On anybody else, this would’ve been Big Bird’s villain origin story, but Gaga? She somehow made it look almost… restrained. By her standards, she was downright gorgeous. This was elegant chaos in the best way. Kesha in Atelier Biser—bless her heart. Despite Gaga, this giant feather trend needs to roost somewhere else. The look here is big, shapeless, and gives straight-up Muppet energy. ![]() Billie Eilish showed up in… something by Ellen Hodakova Larsson. It’s a whole lot of no. Made from dead stock that should have stayed dead, the dress has too many sleeves, belts just everywhere, and then socks are thrown into the mayhem. Steampunk Wednesday Addams is an idea that never should have manifested. ![]() Kelsea Ballerini, on the other hand, gave us actual glamour in a stunning gold Etro gown. The fit? Immaculate. The metallic paisley? Unexpectedly elegant. Hair simple and slick so the dress could shine—take notes, Billie. This is how you let one star piece do the talking ![]() We’re all mad at Bad Bunny right now (and this was written before the halftime show, so who even knows). His speech? Dumb as a bag of hammers. He is Puerto Rican, ICE ain’t knocking on his door, calm down. But the look? A surprisingly classic velvet tux from Schiaparelli Couture, the first man to do it. The corseted back had me audibly gasping. I liked early Bad Bunny before the full tilt into crazy town. If this is him circling back to his roots, prayerfully it sticks. Time will tell.
![]() And finally, Heidi Klum in Marina Hoermanseder. The lacquered leather was molded to her like shrink-wrap, giving us the full scenic tour right down to the cheeks. Ma’am. Avant-garde? No, just silly. It looked like she sliced a mannequin in half, slapped some clips on the sides, and called it couture. Until the next event, never let ‘em catch you in last season’s feathers. Or really in any feathers ----- Thanks, Piper! The leitmotif: I'm not Lion when I say the chief problem in trying to figure this out is my lack of familiarity with these performers. The leitmotif: I'm not Lion when I say the chief problem in trying to figure this out is my lack of familiarity with these performers. They might be titans od the music industry, maybe even saints, but, as a cardinal rule, I try to avoid making assumptions or trying to ram conclusions prematurely about the theme without a giant amount of information. I might have to Jet over to Google if I can un-Pack anything from there.

This whole Nancy Guthrie thing brings back (bad) memories about a case that happened here in Fort Worth in 2004. Woman named Laura Lee Crane was abducted in broad daylight in the parking lot of a well-traveled grocery store.
Things did not turn out well for that sweet lady - she was VERY involved with the TCU family, including the preschool that Rebecca attended. I haven't watched a minute of pro ball in more than ten years, but I checked the score, and here's my blind guess:
Both teams' defense performed very well for most of the game. But the Seahawks had a better place kicker and more aggressive offense that could get him into position. Both teams' defensive linemen started running out of gas late in the third quarter, setting the table for an offensive shootout in the fourth, where the Seahawks dominated the Patriots. He or she recommended "Starships" as an entry point: Nicki Minaj - Starships (Explicit) (Official Video) https://youtu.be/SeIJmciN8mo Glancing online, that could be controversial -- not because of the vulgarity or irresponsible partying theme, but because Nicki kind of disavowed it. I don't really know. However, it was apparently the hinge where she swung from hip-hop to mainstream pop, which is a big leap. If you want a point of reference, here is the song that it most reminds me of: Ke$ha - TiK ToK (Official HD Video) https://youtu.be/iP6XpLQM2Cs That is objectively a compliment, since "TiK ToK" is at 3/4 of a billion views YouTube, while "Starships" is at 1/2 a billion. Anyway, they both do the perfect pop thing of musically changing modes dramatically several times, and are lyrically all about girls going out and partying hard. I have a bevy of artistic and moral criticisms that I could levy at both, but money is its own proof of worth. Posted by: SciVo at February 08, 2026 11:24 PM (Sy6m/) 389

I had a dream last night that the Horde might find amusing. I had finished lunch in a campus cafeteria and for some reason we all had to wait for awhile before we could leave. We were standing near one of the walls of the cafeteria. I was tired, so I had bundled my coat in my arms in such a way that I could relax without dropping it and was leaning against the wall with my eyes closed and sort of napping while standing. When I opened my eyes, Kamala Harris was standing next to me and looking intently at my coat bundle like something was bothering her. I asked if something was wrong and she said, "You're not allowed to have alcohol on campus," like she thought I was hiding something in my coat. Now that I've typed all that out, I guess it's not that funny. But it's kind of remarkable to be reprimanded by Kamala about alcohol. Mortality rates shot up right after the rollout of the COVID “vaccine”. There are a lot more cancers showing up in very late stages compared with before. And of course, all the young athletes dying of “suddenly”. Studies suggest that the general response immune system gets shut down by this genetic therapy shot in favor of only being primed to deal with the particular the shot was “tuned” for, often an already extinct version of the virus, which mutates rapidly. If the Broncos hadn't had Elway as QB, the Browns would have been losing those Super Bowls. IMO, the Browns would have put up a better fight. May have even had won one (maybe beaten the Giants. Maybe) Alas, ole Schottenheimer just could not get past Elway. The Broncos were very beatable except for Elway dragging that mediocre Broncos team across the finish line, except for the Super Bowl (Until later when they discovered defense and the running game). RIP Marty. Again, I'm a Steelers fan. Front row seat in watching that Browns team in the 80s. They were great. It's head scratching to me that they just continually choked in the playoffs. Ignore the dancers, the fireworks, the props, etc. - what I heard was a mediocre Latin singer. Ricky Ricardo was more entertaining than this guy. Maybe he's done something in the past that shows talent, but I didn't see it tonight. Posted by: PabloD ================ I didn't get what tf his act had to do with the Superbowl. Harvesting tobacco and sugar, livin' la vida caribeno? Then quality. I used to take Afro-Cuban dance classes and that show was mediocre. The choreography was mostly twerking, could have been actual dance and it would have been twice as watchable. Posted by: Blonde Morticia in SoCal at February 09, 2026 12:15 AM (n7rxJ) 467
I've never done any sport that took more work and returned less pleasure. Running a marathon in the snow on skis. Hard pass.
Posted by: JackStraw at February 08, 2026 11:51 PM (viF8m) One of the insane boy scout trips I spoke of was cross country skiing. It was exactly as you described. A shit ton of work for very little distance, and the wax on the skis was the wrong temperature, so the snow was sticking to the bottom in big clumps. It was half skiing and half snow shoe. It....blew...fucking....ass. I told mrs B the story last night as cross country skiing was being shown. She looks at me and says "you did skiing?" I held my hand up to the top of my head in the "up to here with that shit" gesture, and said remember when I said I had the great outdoors up to here by the time I was 16? Yeah, that. As a Texans fan, thanks for the bye week before the inevitable drubbing Houston always gets in the first playoff. Posted by: gKWVE LoL! You're welcome! The important thing is Tomlin has never had a losing season, according too the sports media. Ignore he won his lone Super Bowl with Cowher's players and some of the coaches. Similar to Gruden winning with Dungy's team in Tampa. The other SB Tomlin coached, was winnable. Alas, turnovers killed them. They had that problem all that year. Mendenhall could not hold onto that ball. Butterfingers RB. Posted by: Puddleglum, cheer up for the worst is yet to come at February 09, 2026 12:16 AM (sAmhv) 469

Ran across the headline that this party just won a landslide general election in Japan. And we think we have problems with the meanings of "liberal" and "conservative"
Until relatively recently "liberal" meant something closer to "libertarian" then "socialist". The modern Japanese LDP gets the liberal part of its name from a party formed in 1945, almost certainly under that older understanding. Posted by: 18-1 at February 09, 2026 12:28 AM (sKqQm) 477

Posted by: Open Blogger at 10:00 PM Piper, I am unfamiliar with any Bad Bunny but the one we see before us now, who is a fully owned Ticket Taker. His soul is owned by Luciferians, who delight in inversion; however fine the corseted back may look from a fashion point of view, the most important word there is 'corseted', which makes it crypto-crossdressing. He's been elevated far beyond his ability, in exchange for playing the part of a living Ken doll to be dressed up in Barbie's clothes as a big F U to God, and no one but Jesus of Nazareth can save him now. Posted by: mikeski at February 08, 2026 10:44 PM (VHUov) ***raises paw*** My FIL was killed by a cow. Sorta. He brought a calf to his property to bottlefeed because its mother died. As babies are wont to do, the calf got bigger. But she still wanted her bottles, and she would "nudge" Charlie whenever she got hungry, even after she had been weaned. Paul and his brother told their dad that he needed to take her back to the ranch with the rest of the cows. Paul's brother even predicted that Slobbers was going to knock Charlie over one day. Sure enough, one day Slobbers nudged Charlie too enthusiastically, and down he went. He hit the ground hard enough that he broke his hip on a slab of concrete. Had a hip replacement, but developed a bolus that stopped up his digestive system. Three days later, he had a seizure in the hospital and never woke up after that. If it wasn't for the fact that he died, Charlie would have loved that story. As it was, Slobbers was taken by a neighbor, never to be heard from again. >>> Eminem, who I don't particularly like and never did, has done a much better job with the problem of what do you do when your schtick is to be a delinquent teenager and now you are 50 something and don't wish to retire
He had a newish album basically giving himself a victory lap for being in the upper echelon of rap, and made a song "rap god" to honor this. It has some kind of Guiness world record for something. He's a conforming tool, but he did spit out some lyrics on that album about not being woke and how stupidly offended people are now. And mocked them. But had lyrics about bill and Monica in a newer album, because that 90s culture schtick is still his binky. Then he had a Fortnite season last year, and that's how my kiddo found his music and fell in love with it. Via a game. So he's been played in my house a lot. 90a rock/rap/grunge/punk artists are "cool" again. I think because it's edgier than what's coming out now because the woke police muzzles what they can now say. Dickie Betts sniped Mimi Hart from her band Hotcakes where she was playing in Columbus with her boyfriend at the time Bruce Armitage.
He saw her perform there and called her up and she was gone. Wowed her away with tales of living a better gig singing with established acts instead of the ups and downs of the bar band scene. She sang backup vocals with tons of folks on the East Coast. But she always came back to Athens. I used to sit in with them and she was always excited to see me. Now, there's Pop, Country, rap, and... is there much Metal anymore? Not really my thing, but there's no casual exposure anymore.

Posted by: JQ at February 09, 2026 02:25 AM (rdVOm) Metal is thriving in europe. It started hitting hard in the mid- late 90's and is still going. There are a shit ton of metal bands over there. Many good ones, mostly from Germany, Sweden, Finland, some from norway and denmark, etc. They pretty much continued where we left off and they frigging ran with it. The thing with those bands is every member is usually extremely good at what they do. The drummers are faster, guitar players are faster. Its like metal went special forces. Faster, more powerful, harder hitting. Its pretty much the style I involved myself in for the last 25 years or so. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at February 09, 2026 02:43 AM (snZF9) 545
Trump weighed in on the Super Bowl show:
Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This “Show” is just a “slap in the face” to our Country,” Trump continued From the "NY Post" Kristen Fleming writing over at "The Post" said "It was visually stunning but a musical dud" I guess some of us can be relieved he didn't wear a dress. And I m not really sure what dancing through fields of sugar cane has to do with the "greatness of America" i didn't watch it, however. I went to sleep. If nothing else, the 70's were loaded with one-hit wonders and annoying novelty songs. 1974, in particular, may be the worst year ever for pop music. I'm still scarred by some of those songs, lol.

Speed-metal death-rock?
I joke... sort of... I liked Scorpions and UFO, among others, back in the day. Not too familiar with current bands. Used to listen to *lots* of stuff and have no idea the bands' names. Posted by: JQ at February 09, 2026 02:53 AM (rdVOm) 548

Mr Dragonheads,
Would Liquid Tension Experiment be considered "Speed" Metal? Posted by: pawn at February 09, 2026 02:59 AM (uvB+6) I have no clue wtf that is. Its pretty cool though. Definitely not speed metal, not even in the same universe. It sounds like a really heavy progressive with a touch of something else I can't put my finger on. Part metal, part progressive, a few things really. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at February 09, 2026 03:28 AM (snZF9) 555

How about an example of what you consider to be "Speed Metal". I can't seem to find a concise reference.
