50 This is a weird painting. I like the interior of the room with its realistic details, textures and colors. It is really well done. The people not so much. They appear cartoonish compared to the objects. It's an odd mix. And where would someone want to display this? Maybe it would be better as a book illustration, not standalone art.

Is it just me or do some of the figures look like Ralph Bakshi hobbits? Perhaps it is set in Bree where men and Hobbits coexist.

Or maybe I just need more coffee.

214 Barber Extracting a Tooth
Artist Adriaen van Ostade
Year c. 1630–1635
Medium oil on panel

Barber Extracting a Tooth is an oil-on-panel genre painting by Adriaen van Ostade, dated from c. 1630–1635. It is held in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, in Vienna.[1]

Description
The painting depicts a genre scene in a humble barbershop, where the village barber surgeon extracts a villager’s tooth under the gaze of several figures, some of whose faces appear slightly blurred. A shaft of light from the window illuminates the left side of the scene, a characteristic technique of the artist, while the right side remains in partial shadow. On the wall, a series of scissors alludes to the barbershop’s function. As was often the case, the painter favored popular themes, which he approached with great realism.[2][3] (Wikipedia)

---
At first glance, I looked for more dwarves.

Interesting (and sort of cute) because it's realistic, at least in as far as the barbering and tooth pulling. However, I would pass hanging this particular painting. Thank you.

They want to pressure the sheriff to promise no cooperation with ICE so the poor kids who are worried about their parents being nabbed can focus studying physics and microbiology and West literature and preparing for successful careers.

They actually said something like that. By which I think they meant learning to read and do math at 3 grade levels below their age which will get them a B in the dumbed down curriculum and promoted to the next grade.

Speed? Perhaps you had a different procedure than I did. First, they had to drill out the fragments of my broken tooth. Then, they sliced open my gums and smeared a paste on the bone of my jaw to stimulate bone growth. After that, I waited for about 6 months for the bone to grow. Then, they reopened the initial wound, and tapped a thread into the new bone and installed the threaded stud. In the meantime, they had someplace off site make the new tooth (after lots of careful measurements, of course). After another few months, they put the new tooth on the stud. All told, I'd guess it took about a year.

Maybe.

Implants can and do fail. Mostly, because the patient aftercare sucks. They definitely need brushing, flossing, etc. You'll lose an implant much faster than a real tooth. They aren't magic.

There's a reason that a successful implant is considered one that lasts 2 years.

But, with proper care and placement, you may get a lifetime out of them.

Again, YMMV.

Now, though, my already not so great beard has parts missing thanks to last year's Fun With Radiotherapy. I joke about rocking "Belter Beard" per Larry Niven, but honestly it's just kinda annoying. Can't really even it up thanks to how the moustache would come out...so it's odd or gone, and I'm not sure I like either...an odd problem to have, but that's my life I guess.

I gave up the NFL (and MLB and every other pro sport) in 2020 after the "Kill Whitey" endorsements swept the nation.

However, my cousin was drafted into the NFL last year, so I started listening to sports talk radio on occasion -- and most of those asshat commentators, even the conservative ones on Fox Sports Networks (FSN), justified the lewd disgusting anti-American halftime scumbag as "The NFL wasn't being political, only trying to expand their brand internationally."

The Avengers brand is relatively untouched by the fouling of the overall Marvel brand, plus the desperate effort at "remember this?" will work with a lot of people.

However, the movie's stupid expensive (over $400 million, if I remember correctly) and will need to make something like $1.2-$1.3 billion to break even. Will it get there? Possibly.

Any other country that was trying to "expand their brand internationally" would be showcasing the appealing aspects of their own culture. If I were to travel to Italy, I want to try the native dishes and would have little interest in being fed hamburgers or fried chicken. I want to hear Italian music and see Italian architecture. I want to experience their culture. It would be silly for Italian hosts to try to make my visit as American as possible.

Why is the US the only nation that is expected to suppress our own culture to appeal to the rest of the world? What foreigners like about us are the things that make us distinct. Why erase that?

More likely imo because FIFA and the USA.

AI - FIFA and the USA have a significant relationship, highlighted by the USA co-hosting the expanded 2026 Men's World Cup with Canada and Mexico, marking the first time three nations have hosted; the US will host 11 of the 16 host cities, bringing major international attention and economic focus, alongside ongoing security and logistical planning by federal task forces. This event follows the U.S. Soccer Federation's long-term efforts, but recent political tensions and policies have sparked international calls for boycotts, questioning the US's suitability as a host due to immigration issues and perceived human rights concerns, creating complex challenges for FIFA and the host nation.
