34 I usually keep a jar of berry flavored vitamin gummies on hand. No beri beri or rickets for this guy, no sir. Made in Canadia. I don’t know how they do it, there is absolutely no detectable vitamin taste at all. They are tasty. Maybe there aren’t any vitamins at all. Somehow this wouldn’t surprise me these days. Everything else is fake, and gay, so why not vitamin supplement?

A comparable vitamin tablet chewed would taste awful. If a little kid found these berry gummies he would eat the whole bottle for sure. I think they are sort of dangerous in that sense.

82 NFL update: Sonny Jurgensen was elected to to the NFL Hall of Fame.

Sonny Jurgensen, the Hall of Fame quarterback whose strong arm led to passing records for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders and affable personality made him a beloved figure, has died at the age of 91.

Jurgensen spent the majority of his 18-year career in Washington, joining the team in 1964 in a surprise quarterback swap that sent Norm Snead to Philadelphia. Jurgensen would make four of his five Pro Bowls in Washington while leading the NFL in passing three times, and his 31 passing touchdowns in 1967 remain a single-season franchise record.

Did you notice what's wrong above ^^^?

Sonny Jurgensen played for the Washington REDSKINS. Not the "Commanders" as they claimed, and not the "Washington Football Team". And yet, ALL of the media reports pretended he played for the "Commanders". He never played a single down for the Washington Commanders. The US media is quite happy re-writing history all for the name of political correctness.

Sonny Jurgensen played for the Washington REDSKINS. Not the "Commanders" as they claimed, and not the "Washington Football Team". The US media is quite happy re-writing history all for the name of political correctness.

If an accountant were offered $1M to do someone’s taxes would he do it? Of course. Why wouldn’t he? So why wouldn’t an actor do some acting for a ton of money as well? It’s just a job like everyone else’s job.

108 We lived in Lake Placid, NY, for 14 years and I liked volunteering to work at the bobsled run when they had the big international meets. I'd get there early to score a gig up at the top shed, where the race starts. A badge checker, that was me. I'd share the job with another and could wander and watch. 4 man bob, 2 man, luge, luge doubles. The guys steering the sleds would be out on the deck, before a run, eyes closed, head and shoulders moving back and forth, as they mentally rode the track, turn by turn. At the ski jump I was a marker, raising my arm if the jumper landed right in front of me. The jumpers are little skinny kids. One gig I had was to escort them after the leap over to the trailer for drug testing.

Then there were the breathing instructions.
"Take a deep breath."
"Now let it all out."
"Don't breathe."
[Enormously loud and annoying screeching for a few seconds]
"Breathe normal."

My internalized English schoolmarm forced me to complain afterward. Breathe normally!

There is a textbook on effective propaganda - variation of the ol strawman - heavily press false flag ludicrous claims, prove them wrong / unsubstantiated ---> everything our opposition says is lies!

Same textbook shows the best propaganda is the truth - repeat only the truth that benefits your cause (lies of omission).

171 The Domino's tweet was likely teasing "Cheese" as the answer to the riddle, since it's a key pizza topping and fits their brand. However, the "bad timing" reply pokes fun at how it could be misinterpreted in a darker way due to the recent revival of the old "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory in the news. In that theory, which resurfaced prominently in January 2026 with new Epstein document releases, "cheese pizza" (or "CP") was claimed to be code for "child pornography" among conspiracy circles on sites like 4chan and Reddit. Posting something that inadvertently echoes that phrasing right after those stories blew up online makes it hilariously (or awkwardly) tone-deaf.

173 The most interesting email I've seen so far is Edward Jay Epstein (no relation) offering Ghislane Maxwell a seat on some secret 9/11 commission.

This Epstein (died in '24) was an author and professor who had been a media favorite to talk about the JFK assassination.

Ghislane, as far as I can tell, had no presence outside of contact for Jeffrey Epstein at the time so if Edward Epstein was inviting her he was really inviting Jeffrey Epstein and...why would you want that?

176 Pretty much. Andrew Robinson as Garak was a wonderful character. DS9 was my favorite Star Trek. It was not so tedious. Maybe that isn't the best word. But the characters were compelling.

Posted by: BarelyScaryMary at February 06, 2026 11:08 PM (lpTXP)

DS9 had great character interactions with each other and good characters to start with. You had O'Brien and Bashir always off on some big holosuite adventure, quark and rom, quark and odo, jake and rom, sisko and jake, sisko and dax, worf, the dabo chick, the dude who sat at bar for 7 seasons and never said a word, etc etc. That goes a long way when it comes to making a good series. Babylon 5 had that, and B5 was great. DS9 also had sisko, who wasn't a pushover. He was no picard, who thought everything could be solved over a nice cup of earl grey.

178 Like its predecessor, TNG is classic, timeless, and still watchable.
----

Its borderline watchable at best.

Picard isn't Kirk. He's older, and demonstrably more indecisive. Nobody watched TNG and thought to themselves "I want to grow up and become Picard".

Data isn't Spock. Its not even close. There was no path forward for Data to become anything other than a sympathetic android. Spock was brilliant, and half-human.

No woman other than Uhura was in the regular command circle of the original Star Trek. TNG had all sorts of female "feelings" characters "Picard" regularly relied on. That crew was soft.

But the dagger for the TNG is...the Ferengi. It all became fake and gay the moment those horrible characters appeared. They were a thousand times more effeminate than the Romulans and the Klingons. In what universe would the Ferengi even matter?

And EVERY SINGLE Star Trek vehicle that came after the original was similarly handicapped. "Captain" Kate? Bite me.

There was a crossover, where the actual doctor who had developed and programmed the Emergency Medical Program for starships like Voyager appears on the station -- played by Robert Picardo. The directors have chosen Julian, DS9's doctor, to be the model for a new long-range program. Sisko asks the doctor/programmer who he used as the model for the existing setup, and he says, "Myself, of course!"

The real, physical doctor turns out to have an eye for the ladies, too.

One of the funniest Voyager episodes, early last season I think, was when the Doctor's "holo matrix" had to be hidden in Seven of Nines Borg brain implants for some reason -- they were captured by some aliens who outlawed holograms.

Anyway, Doctor ends up taking over control of Seven. Jerry Ryan did an hilarious job of channeling the Doctor's character. Funniest line, Seven gets back in control and is furious at the Doctor, "You became sexually aroused in my body!".

Funny that DS9 comes up as a topic tonight. I was just watching a Youtube review of the latest episode of the execrable Starfleet Academy and apparently it uses Benjamin and Jake Sisko as a plot point. I thought the Jake character was a huge missed opportunity. He could have been 1000% more interesting if they had written him not as a kid who sometimes got into a little kid-like trouble but as a genuinely bad kid. A real JD, a mirror universe Wesley, involved in all kinds of crime and trouble on the station, that Sisko had to deal with.

Speaking of Aussie, in a brief tangent, I was getting my hair done this morning, and heard his accent from the next chair and got briefly excited, mate. Then I discovered HE was getting foil highlights like me and figured he must be gay and lost interest.

The Indian off shore customer service had all sorts of static & music and a bad accent.I told him to turn the volume down.

One item was stolen by USPS,who I blame. Then the idiot hung up on me.

If you give really bad ratings on the survey they call you right back. I hope he gets that new killer bat virus.

I got another Indian. A kind woman who couldn't say my name to save her life, but did send me, at no bloody charge she said & there better not be, a new half of what I ordered & someone stole.

This is how part of my day went. In reality it was only about 30min but it felt like hours. Otherwise things are good and we might get some snow next week.

Alex Krainer (I know, who?) speculates that Trump moved to take Maduro to forestall a regime change move, probably by the Euros, to install Maria Machado -- who they just gave a Nobel for neither winning an election or actually creating peace.
He also thinks that Maduro was in on it, since it took so little time, and it appears that a lot of the anti-air defense gear was parked in garages at the time.
Machado would have been a disaster, and caused a civil war. Delcy Rodriguez is doing impressive things about political prisoners and might be doing more than the Colombians to muzzle the cartels.

Kind of hard. You'd need to really throw out all of the movies. Throw out everything... I'd say after DS9.

Go back to basics. Planet/species of the week. Good stories, no politics beyond moral problems.

Good actors.

Oh and execute Kurtzman.

The horse would have a problem with stairwells.

But on most platforms, she'd be fine. They're plenty tall. You're going down a full stairwell, a good 20 feet, or more. Unless she had some sort of huge steed, I don't see a problem.

240 Husband, sons and I went to Paris for the first time in 1999. London to Paris on the Eurostar.

In my reading I was convinced we'd be robbed so I took precautions. My men could not wear jeans nor running shoes. Well, the little Paris men wore jeans and tees without collars (mine stood out in polo shirts). And running shoes. My men were not happy with me. We stood out as we are all blonde.

We took the subway to a lot of places. I had index cards to know which stop to get off and not look like a tourist. My guy and I once got into an argument as we pretended to be French and not stand out to the thieves. Our youngest whispered to me that we were argue whispering in English.

I knew enough French to get by, from HS, and knew how to scream, "Call police, I am being robbed!" at the time.

Even in HS the boys were over 6' so we had no issues with the French.

Years later, standing in line to Marie Antoinette's childhood home in Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace, my stupid men whispered that "no wonder the Germans won" as some men of Europe are so tiny. If you are from Europe and tiny but a Moron, please forgive me. Je suis désolé. (continued)

251 (continued) One day we were planning sites in the breakfast area of the little hotel in Paris. The 18th Addronnie I am not looking up spelling.

My husband walks very fast and was known, before his back issues, to be seen running through the parking lots of Publix in FL, just because he ran.

There was a courtyard and our windows opened to this. I was upstairs on the 3rd floor putting on mascara when I heard a loud crash. Thought a busboy dropped a tray.

My guy appeared about 15min later with a red bump on his head & a bloody lip. In his rush to get the Paris map, he crashed head first into thick glass doors in the lobby. Woke to many French people concerned above him, and leaped up and carried on.

Our sons did not hear this. I did not know. He could have been whisked off like Princess Diana in one of those goofy siren ambulances and we would have never seen him again.

He tells me the story. I ask if he is ok & he said yes so we carry on (he possibly had a mild concussion). We leave the hotel and see his facial imprint on the glass door and we all collapse laughing in the lobby like loons when we see it. The man behind the desk wondered about us all.

His bump is in photos.

Wrong direction. It's really time for making new shows. The Expanse, for all it's problems, was a pretty sci-fi show.

I think Taylor Sheridan, what ever you think of his stuff, has the road map. Make things people want to see, get control over it, and force execs to bow and scrape before you. Ronald D. Moore seemed like he was going to branch out like that in the 00's but I haven't seen a thing from him recently.

255 Ace already covered it, but, for the people who only read the ONT comments:
I want the NFL to suffer for inflicting a shitty left wing trans-more-than-friendly anti-ICE asshole named Bad Bunny on their audience.
There is a deliberately counter programmed alternative to the "official" Superbowl Bad Bunny halftime show
It is airing on the TV networks Daily Wire+, TBN, Real America’s Voice, The National News Desk, CHARGE!, NTD.com, and OAN News.
You can also watch it on Turning Point USA accounts on X, YouTube, and Rumble, or directly as AMERICANHALFTIMESHOW.COM
Big feature is Kid Rock, mostly country artists.
For those with Dish, TBN is Chan 260, Real.Americas Voice is Chan 219, CHARGE! is on Chan 290, and OAN is on Chan 212. It's going to be timed to the actual halftime, so it'll end before the game resumes
If we can get enough people (especially sat and cable where they are tracking exactly what you're watching) to switch only during halftime, the message will be heard when advertisers want money back because of reduced eyeballs.

Some conditions that María Corina Machado sets to hold free elections in Venezuela:

-Open the electoral registry for Venezuelans abroad.

-Audit the identification system so that only Venezuelans can vote. She remembers that more than 10,000 Venezuelan passports were delivered to Islamic extremist agents.

This process could take 9 to 10 months once started.

Alex Krainer does, though he only has the experience of growing up in Yugoslavia at the wrong time, and living in Venezuela.

If Venezuela wound up being torn up from an ongoing civil war, maybe brining Colombia and the FARC in, the US would have a septic sore at our belly that we can't ignore and will be worse than Vietnam to calm down.
Maduro was a in a weak position, and was chosen to take Chavez' place, and I suspect was run by his generals and the cartels, as well as the Cubans. Once he is nabbed, then Rodriguez, who is truly one of the power elite families in Caracas can operate. She is also an insider in the Oil industry. She doesn't have to be good, she just has to want the best for Venezuela. From what I have heard, this is who she is.

I don't know about all the air defense equipment, but I saw truck mounted batteries destroyed in a garage in a tiktok clip, where they were not able to engage targets even before they got blowed up.
It is speculation, and it fits some of the data points that are hard to account for

Heh...it was only a matter of time. The State loses the fuel tax from EV owners, so they had to make up a new cost to re-acquire that money. It's funny because a lot of EV owners could give a shit about the environment, and bought one to avoid paying for gas, and the attached taxes. Oops. I read the bill, they are also playing around with a mileage tax currently proposed to be 1.2 cents per mile. So if you go 20,000 in a year, the payment is about the same as the increase on registration. BUT, once a tax like that shows up, it never goes away, and it always increases.

Still, the total fuel tax you pay for IC cars well exceeds this new EV cost.

I'll still watch because of the gathering of family and friends. And food and drink. And I do like the game, but I hate everything else about the league and the broadcast.

304 The only sports I like are the winter sports. I used to watch hockey here and there, but mostly when I was a kid I used to watch that wide world of sports show. Even the olympics I'll only watch the winter one. I'll watch the skiing stuff, some snowboard stuff, and the sled based stuff, and usually see some of the skating, which I blame mrs B for that. She loves the figure skating. There is a girl from my area on the USA team this year, so I'll probably watch whatever she is doing. I think some kind of snow boarding. Baseball, basketball, football..nah, I don't give a shit. Especially basketball, I came out of the womb hating that shit. Never sat and watched a game ever.

309 I've gotten to the point with AI that, when I need a little app or utility or custom query, I've found it's faster to have Grok whip out what I need, than it is to search online for a best-fit existing app. Like a *lot* faster. I get exactly what I ask for, no fuss, no muss.

322 Corporations that are purely AI and robotics will vastly outperform any corporations that have people in the loop

You can think of it like how 'computer' used to be a job that humans had. You would go and get a job as a computer where you would do calculations. They had entire skyscrapers full of humans....20, 30 floors of humans...just doing calculations. Now, that entire skyscraper of humans doing calculations can be replaced by a laptop with a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet can do vastly more calculations than an entire building full of human computers

So, you think about it: what if only some of the cells in your spreadsheet were calculated by humans? That would be much worse than if all of the cells in your spreadsheet were calculated by the computer. And so, really what will happen is the pure AI, pure robotics corporations or collectives will far outperform any corporations that have humans in the loop. It will happen very quickly

Um, no.

Baseball is the national sport for a reason. Everywhere we have exported it has become a valuable asset. Look to Japan for that, among others.

Hockey keeps most kids out of slam, such as my spawn. That is a valuable thing for the community and for the world in general.

No sports means no learning to win gracefully and lose gracefully. You end up with self-absorbed ghetto assholes. I don't think thug-ball basketball qualifies as anything but a disaster, but that says more about those who choose to play it than the sport itself.
