Which feelings are okay in non-leftist social media? In K-12 protest marches?

Some interesting developments this week in personal social media observations of people on the left side of the political spectrum:

1. There is a "Resist and Unsubscribe" website encouraging people to abandon certain big corporations which are perceived to have helped ICE or Trump, for a period of time long enough to do damage to the economy. They are big mad at Bezos, I think.

2. Some of the not-so-lefties who really hate Trump are starting to realize that spewing hate at people who don't hate Trump isn't working. Although they continue to spew hate to their own followers, they may now do logical analyses of content they don't like which they see posted on the personal page of a non-hater rather than reacting with venom.

For example, if someone posts something from AoSHQ, we might see an admission by the lefty commenter that the post correctly identifies false information from, say, a Democratic Senator. However, there would be criticism of any snark or disapproval of the sharing of false information by a Democratic Senator, according to the principles of classical logic.

"The commentator uses moral condemnation, accusations of lying, and dismissive framing."

Be totally dispassionate about lies from our side, you bigots!!! Avoid all snark or disapproval! Be BORING.

The Week In Pictures: Get Off My Land Edition

It is not momentous events that are the most meme-worthy. Rather, it is moments when liberals show their true colors and embarrass themselves, often in relatively trivial ways, that set meme-creators to work. This week, along with the ongoing fiasco in Minnesota, we had severel such events.

The Washington Post, hemorrhaging losses, laid off a large portion of its staff, causing its newly-unemployed reporters to demonstrate outside the building. They marched in defense of the moral principle that Jeff Bezos is obliged to support them forever, no matter how much money they lose. I wonder whether some of the newly-laid-off demonstrators have been covering economics for the Post.

Also, more Epstein documents were released, to the discomfiture of his former friends, all of whom appear to be, like Epstein himself, Democrats.

The number one source of memes, however, was singer Billie Eilish. At the Grammy awards–like all entertainment awards ceremonies, an orgy of liberal stupidity–Eilish opined that “no one is illegal on stolen land.” Her own property, presumably, excluded. . .

18 34 years ago me and three buddies waited until midnight, when our Army paychecks hit our accounts, and then piled into a compact car to drive from Western Germany to the French Alps to watch the Albertville Olympics. Saw Bonnie Blair win Gold, watched Herschel Walker bobsled and a bunch of other games. Great 3 days of sleeping in the car at night and hanging out with the athletes during the day. Good times. Go USA!

It's one of those things I am never going to understand. Some people LIKE to go shopping.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, just that I cannot fathom WANTING to go places and look for stuff to buy. Sometimes you have to, but it is never going to cross the blood brain barrier in my skull that anyone somehow enjoys it.

The progressive college town reacted in abject horror as one might expect, with candle-light vigils and hand wringing editorials in the newspapers and the rest of it.

It was soon determined to be a hoax, an attempted insurance scam actually, perpetrated by the previously aforementioned black guy.

Never skipping a beat, everyone then got a lecture - “Well it could have happened, and that’s just as bad!” Since that time I’ve always been skeptical of any such claims and it would appear that was justified. They are always hoaxes unless proven otherwise. Especially in a radical left-wing college town.

We've had no winter here yet. It snowed one day a few weeks ago, but even that was weird snow. The kind that looks more like dipping dots, so maybe it was really tiny hail.

Anyhoo, that was literally just one day. Or a few hours of one day, because it melted almost immediately, and most days here highs have been consistently in the 60s. Next week it's supposed to only be in the upper 40s and 50s, so maybe that's our winter.

Depending on the location, Walmart dot com is finally bringing some competition to Amazon. But both websites are becoming dysfunctional due to all Chinesium crap products sold under fake storefronts by the same sellers cluttering the search window.

Amazon now makes more money from product placement advertising (putting worthless links at the top) than it does from selling products. Something like 33 billion or so.

For some products, I actually prefer Ebay than Amazon or Walmart dot com.

35 Burt, I can think back to the mall days of my youth. I was not social like that, nor into 'fashion', but I can understand how meeting friends to check out stuff, play at the arcade, have a snack at the food court was fun for younger people.

And I know some women never age out of enjoying shopping together, honestly having a 2nd, maybe 3rd opinion and someone to chat with, would make shopping less onerous, but I lack the networking skills to ever do that, and when I have to shop I just want to get in and out as fast as possible so I'd be a horrible companion for someone who wanted to try on several outfits before choosing one.

Sometimes I'll be running low on something like laundry detergent, and I'll feel slightly guilty for ordering it online, rather than going to a store.

DoE's biggest stick is against higher ed. Shut off access to student aid and the entire edifice collapses.

By contrast, local schools and states only get about 10 percent or so of the budget from the feds. So the biggest stick DoE has for them is to use existing federal civil rights laws to force compliance on such matters as no males on female teams, no DEI criteria for hiring, etc. States, especially red ones, are going to have to fix local education themselves.

56 I had walmart.com, but in dad's name and CC and that was good, the local store did not have nearly the selection for protein drinks and elder care items. But I've never signed up as myself. Making myself go to the store is good for me, otherwise I'd be almost a hermit except for lately trail riding with friends once a week, + work made us start coming in to the office a couple days a week. Plus even though I don't use much produce, I want to buy what I do use in person, not just get whatever a store sends.

Yep. I use those and also as a product locator within the store. Makes trips less onerous. I would simply order to be delivered to the car except I need the exercise walking around the store using a shopping cart as an free walker. Floors are level, the place is heated and cooled, and the floor size means you can get some steps in without as much risk of falling.

Dehydrated and fatigued myself to the limit. I used to work night shifts loading and unloading semi trailers and would come home covered in blood and bruises. Many stupid adventures...

There are support groups online that might be able to help with resources, etc. It is also possible other than mental illness, that drugs are involved as they can simulate mental illness depending on which drugs are being taken.

Professors vary. I had no problem with people coming late or leaving early except when they disrupted class in doing so. Come in and out without a fuss, no problem.

Depending on what state you are in, having someone involuntarily admitted to a mental hospital can be easier or harder.

There is clear evidence that the earlier the intervention for psychosis, the less destructive the illness will be over the course of one's life.

His family should gather ALL evidence of danger to himself or others, and INSIST the police help to intervene. Usually, they do have the authority to initiate an involuntary psych eval, and can take him to a facility where it can be performed.

It's not easy to deal with these things, but the sooner he gets help, the better.

They were my bulwark against my mother, starting in fifth grade, when I wore a sleeveless shirt to school without realizing that it exposed a bruise on my arm that outlined my mother's hand--all the fingers and the thumb. The teacher was shocked and sent me to the principal, who made it clear they would be watching from then on.

First year teaching an intro class, class met from 5 to 6:30. Class starts and a kid comes and sits on the first row. He went to KFC. He bought the full meal deal--CRISPY fried chicken, coleslaw, rolls, potatoes and gravy, etc. He carefully sets out each of these items on the desk and proceeds to chow down noisily while I was lecturing. The smell of stale fried chicken (the air in that room wasn't good) and made some students sick and other hungry.

As the show was getting more and more attention, I eventually stopped the class and said something like, "If a student is hungry, I have no problem with them eating, but please be courteous to others and sit in the back if you are doing that as the air in here is not good and I don't want distractions for other students." Then went on with my lesson.

Try looking for public and private mental health support, starting with whatever your department of children and family services is called. Much as I hate those agencies in general, they may be able to at least point you in the right direction. Your state probably has an involuntary mental health evaluation law of some kind but if the cops or the doctor won't play ball you'll need to find some other way to activate it. The problem with police involvement is they often won't get involved until it's a crisis point and get trigger happy.

Right, the key phrase is "danger to one's self or others."

Suicidal statements are an obvious one, but so are credible claims of wanting to harm others.

Brandishing a weapon will do it, especially when there are other obvious signs of psychosis. Also, if there are signs of self-neglect (not eating, not treating an illness, etc), a hold can be initiated.

I've initiated these when I was in Colorado, so I know it can be done (easier than here in Arizona).

Police make a dummy run, round them all up and 'book 'em, Donno'; treat them just like criminals and then a walk to the 'tank' appearing as if the kids were going to be placed in with the thugs and drunks.

Valid point. From a DM's game balance perspective (hey, silly but accurate) Gray Tribe is motivated by a desire to be left alone so they can dissolve and pursue individual interests. Pink Tribe are control freaks who get off on controlling others and will band together as roving packs of bullies in search of prey.

In a head to head matchup, Gray Tribe could easily destroy Pink. But Gray set up a phone tree so they can skip the weekly game sessions unless there's some emergency. Meanwhile Pink is meeting secretly the day before each game session to playtest ways to come at Gray sideways without triggering an alert. Their Minnesota Gambit failed but Grey doesn't appreciate how close they came to winning without a shot being fired.

The problem I see is that Grey would rather be somewhere else (are they playing Orion2 on the side again?) while Pink finds the game exhilarating.

Amazing how different elementary school was in the 50's. Started school in 1952 and had a few teachers that my mom had in the 1920's. No BS, straight teachers. Older women who took no nonsense and a lady spinster principal who actually resembled Margaret Hamilton. Strict, but fair. Even JR High and HS was taught straight from books printed in the early to mid 50's. A different world. I consider myself lucky to have grown up during those years. We just didn't know it at the time.

I don't think there's any sign of "collapse" among the left. They're angry because we aren't obeying them, but they're nowhere near begging for mercy. And we're still wondering (doubting for the most part) whether any of them will see justice. Embarrassment, maybe, but who really thinks Fauci or Brennan or the Obamas or Clintons, much less the Soros's and their ilk are going to face real, lasting punishment? Even if we had a DoJ that was interested in it, where would we find courts sufficiently uncorrupted to allow it?
