42 But with all the tech layoffs, must be a lot of worthless jobs out there.

When they say "tech jobs" it may not necessarily mean actual coders but people of unclear purposes hired as DEI quota filling.

There is a remarkable amount of specialization these days. Was eavesdropping in on a "technical meeting" between a third party and the bank on integrating a payment system into a mobile app. 65 people. Probably only needed 10 at most. Lots of people with "Director" and "Manager" in the titles, and exactly zero of them had anything to contribute, and nothing of value to receive.

Heard a bunch of "We need to check on that" which means the people who knew what was going on were not there.

Had a quick five minute with the architect on the mobile team following, and he has one person working on a PoC. One person.

46 Found the answer on You Tube. I have an ad blocker. So You Tube ads an unskippable ad before the showing. I got off easy with only 4 minutes. Some are an hour long.

Remove the ad blocker, and I should get 15 to 30 second ads, or pay $168 dollars a year for no ads.

103 A 1964 pilot for a horror series (that never was picked up) called The Ghost of Sierra de Cobre is on Movies! It's a neat-looking B & W movie with Martin Landau, Diane Baker, and Dame Judith Anderson, in a story written and directed in atmospheric style by the Outer Limits head honcho, Joseph Stefano. Landau plays an architect who investigates possible psychic phenomena. The thrust on this one is that ghosts and the supernatural are real, though the hero at first approaches the mystery as if it were a series of tricks.

105 103: And Landau's apple-cheeked housekeeper is a hard-headed realist who says, "Someone's got to *not* believe in ghosts." So we have the chance for Landau and the housekeeper, Mrs. Finch, to discuss the evidence for and against ghosts. Interesting characters!

106 That leaves the field wide open for AMD to fumble.

Who knows. Maybe they won't! Maybe Intel won't, either. And then when Nvidia comes back to the consumer market after the AI bubble collapses, it will only have, say, 70% market share. That would be great, because then "only runs properly on Nvidia" would be less appealing for developers, since that means leaving 30% of the market experiencing a substandard product.

An "Nvidia and the two dwarfs" situation wouldn't be a terrible outcome. If neither competitor fumbles. My money - if I were betting - would be on Intel not fumbling. They're still focused on consumer, business general and non-AI datacenter. They might end up laughing all the bank by default when the AI bubble comes to an end - its recent malaise notwithstanding.

109 The history of socialism since the 1920s, starting with Gramsci and Mussolini, is largely concerned with the problem of Marxian dialectics being a deterministic, self-referential fantasy.

None of it was playing out like it was supposed to in the Western countries this nonsense was supposed to naturally develop in. The proletariat in the industrial economies simply failed to develop the class consciousness as predicted, and socialism was only able to emerge by force in an agrarian monarchy several steps behind the bourgeois capitalist stage of the self-referential fantasy.

Since then, it's all been about major overhauls of the fantasy to include the institutional vanguards, the emergence of fascism, and of course the replacement of the uncooperative proletariat that had so disappointed the fantasists - so we got this mutated racial and cultural Marxism.

The "working class" ceased being the focus of Western Marxists a hundred years ago.

112 spot-on, YD!

far from a vehicle to help people, it's a vast self-perpetuating conspiracy of psycho / socio paths to enslave and torture the entire world

if they ever acheived that, they would try to spread the toxin across the galaxy like the Eddorians.

The electric company did some work in the neighborhood yesterday, which involved cutting off the power for about half an hour. Maybe that did it?
