Trump Names New Fed Chief; "Safe Choice" Would Favor Interest Rate Cuts, as Trump Also Wants

Crooked partisan Jerome Powell left the federal prime interest rate unchanged, declaring that no cut was needed, as the economy was experiencing solid growth.

The Federal Reserve held its key interest steady in a range between 3.5% and 3.75% after a recent run of interest rate cuts.

"Available indicators suggest that economic activity has been expanding at a solid pace. Job gains have remained low, and the unemployment rate has shown some signs of stabilization," the central bank said in its post-meeting statement. "Inflation remains somewhat elevated."

...

Importantly, the statement also erased a clause indicating that the committee saw a higher risk from the threat of a weakening labor market than that of heightened inflation. That would argue for a pause on rate cuts at least in the near term as officials see the Fed's dual goals of low inflation and full employment more in balance.

There was little in the way of guidance about what's coming next, with markets expecting the Fed to wait until at least June before adjusting its benchmark rate again.

Well, the economy is indeed growing. But supposedly the economy was growing during Biden's Miracle Economy and Powell still cut interest rates, months before an election considered a referendum on Biden's stewardship over the economy. And inflation was still raising.

Trump can't wait until this guy is out office, and thankfully, his term ends in May.

Trump has already named Powell's replacement.

IBM Vice Chairman Gary Cohn said Sunday that President Trump's nominee for chairman of the Federal Reserve Board is "very highly qualified" and will "take the Fed back to its traditional" norms.

"I think we're very fortunate to have Kevin to be the nominee," Cohn said on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan."

On Friday, Mr. Trump announced that he had nominated Kevin Warsh to serve as the next chair of the Federal Reserve Board, writing in a post on Truth Social that he has "no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best."

...

Cohn, the former National Economic Council director in President Trump's first term, praised Warsh on Sunday, saying that he brings a "unique background" and highlighting his work on the Fed board during the 2008 financial crisis.

"He was instrumental in that crisis," Cohn said. "Kevin was the point person at the Fed -- he was involved in every one of those discussions. And I truly believe, without Kevin's expertise, and without Kevin being there, we would not have come out of the 2008 crisis as well as we have."

The president's selection of Warsh as his nominee was expected to be viewed as a safe choice on Wall Street given his monetary policy experience and well-established views on inflation.

Cohn said he expects Warsh to "stay out of a lot of the non-financial issues," while he is "going to be involved, obviously, in setting interest rate policy."

"There is a pressure right now for interest rates to go lower," Cohn said. "I think that he will probably follow through on the one to two cuts this year."

7 I think Trump has another case working through the courts about firing board members and he will use that precent and cut Powell's term short.

Something that I don't think people realize is that none of this news is organic. The reporters are just conduits for someone else's work. It's been that way for a long time, and stories are held until it is time to break them. The left has been doing this forever, but now Trump is doing it right back and them, and he's even doing the Clintonian "Well, I just heard about that myself! Here's my take!" It is a very effective tactic.

23 This is what the black-pill pushers need to understand: the reason why there are no charges, no arrests is not because those aren't in process or the investigators don't know. The reason is that the information environment has to be prepared before these things can happen. It has to be "old news" and it has to look like Trump's people are just now learning about it. That both gives the public time to understand what is happening and gulls the suspects into thinking the feds are clueless and might buy a fresh set of lies.

Imagine Trump did the way people say they want: news conference, charges announced, and then the media goes into full coverup mode. All lies! This happened during his first term. Everything was unlawful retaliation, didn't matter what the evidence was.

But by having "independent" journalists push this, and have Trump act confused and puzzled, or mildly interested, they can't discredit it as easily. The evidence just sits there, more people read it, and the black pillers demand Bondi's head for being asleep at the switch. That really throws the Dems for a loop because they will reflexively join in, proving that Bondi is not involved in any way. cont

Gold-plated tungsten bars are hard to detect. Tungsten is 19.25 grams per cubic centimeter. Gold is 19.32 grams per cubic centimeter. If you take a tungsten bar, then cover it in some gold, it'll pass several tests. You can scratch it or do basic weight and dimension checks and it'll pass. It takes more accurate weight and dimension checks or more intrusive core tests.

74 Cohn, the former National Economic Council director in President Trump's first term, praised Warsh on Sunday, saying that he brings a "unique background" and highlighting his work on the Fed board during the 2008 financial crisis.

"He was instrumental in that crisis," Cohn said. "Kevin was the point person at the Fed -- he was involved in every one of those discussions. And I truly believe, without Kevin's expertise, and without Kevin being there, we would not have come out of the 2008 crisis as well as we have."

I am not thrilled by this, because I never believed that it was handled well. How much of that was Warsh and the Fed, and how much was Rest Of Government, I don't know. But the overall optics stank of classist, cronyist corruption.

I can't check the math, but I heard that spending the same amount of money on borrowers instead of banks, paying off part of their underwater mortgages, would've had the knock-on effect of stabilizing the lenders and mortgage derivative markets just as effectively. But while carefully avoiding helping the icky poors, bankers were collecting massive bonuses for the arcane savvy to say "Yes!" to free money.

78 OK, this is going to get interesting.

The Tariff case before the Supreme Court has been delayed numerous times after being heard.... Why? Because the key question is can Congress Delegate the Constitutionally mandated Power to set taxes, to the Executive branch. They want to say no... but...

Congress delegated the power to print money to the Fed.

And also delegated the Power to write rules for Courts to the Supremes themselves...

Thus, if they rule against the core issue on Tariffs, it affects both the Feds, AND Supremes power as well.

My guess is they are trying to use some sophistry to split the baby... and can't really come up with one.

In September China moved a ton of equipment to Beijing for the parade to celebrate the victory of the US and Nationalist China over Japan (the commies were hiding in caves).

They also held a Party congress. This is not being announced, has no public explanation and the units are coming from different military districts, which is very strange. Unlike the US, where bases are either legacy locations or sited for training needs, the PLA is divided into five sectors for internal security purposes. There is no equivalent to "NORTHCOM" because it is assumed the first commander would just overthrow the government.

It is surmised that these are token units being sent on behalf of larger units to let Xi know how deep the rebellion goes. It's like a pronunciamiento Chinese-style. Maybe it is. We'll find out.

China fudges the hell out of their rural population numbers. I haven't seen the video you're talking about, but it's entirely possible the 500 million number she comes to is because the reports outside of big population centers are totally made up. So she may be correct the 500 million is the number for the areas actually accounted for. But the number may be much higher than that because China doesn't count a lot of their people.

Are we going to have to tear it all down and start over again? What a mess.
Even if we could round up all the crooks I don't think we have enough jail cells.
Posted by: Case

Short answer. Yes.

We won't need jail cells. Coroner bags on the other hand will be in sharp demand. Lotty, Dotty, and Everybody in Fed Gov. Make it a visceral emotional impact on the Staties to keep them in line.

Not a real mess, just scrap anything after the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Cut out the Amendments somewhere around 9 or 10, all after became suborned by corrupto-crats. Anyone that complains "it's too much" refer to the coroner bags above.

It's fucking Republic, not a suicide pact.

149 Saw a post on X that is most assuredly baloney claiming Chi-na has cracked how to manufacture gold. If they actually did everything collapses, per the questionable article.
Posted by: Blutarski, Gradually then Suddenly at February 02, 2026 05:43 PM (cxFcK)

In order to make gold atoms, you have to make gold nuclei. The energy cost to do that is vastly greater than the value of the gold so made.

150 O-rings in the cold got the headlines after Feynman’s demonstration, but if you read the report itself I was surprised, at one point they had stopped using asbestos putty to pack the void around it. The green replacement stuff never did work right. The saw this burn through on launches routinely and had all sorts of conjecture on what was “acceptable” and at what temperatures. I mean, OK, I guess. Yeesh.

The whole thing was flipped from the top down. NASA used to query everyone “are we GO?” on this and that, and even down to the contractors, it was up to them to answer in the affirmative.

Then NASA management decided on a “We are GO” and it was up to the various systems to explain why not. And Morton Thiokol said “No way, too cold”. And NASA just literally ignored the engineers that built the product.

151 I think that's too low, but 1.2 billion is very likely. There is a lot of evidence that Covid killed many millions of people there.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd

Her point is it wasn't Covid but decades of official one child family policy. And it's caught up to them.
Posted by: Blutarski, Gradually then Suddenly at February 02, 2026 06:19 PM (cxFcK)

The One Child policy has also led to a distorted investment market as parents and grandparents are depending on fewer kids to provide old age support. The government touted real estate investment, but that bubble has/is about to pop as corruption and mismanagement has made it certain that these plans won't work.

152 Gold-plated tungsten bars are hard to detect.

The Party became the scholar-bureaucrats.

The PLA is interesting because China traditionally has no warrior culture. The Confucian hierarchy is dead, but soldiers are still treated as armed bandits, which is why China still has to conscript it troops.

I believe the officers are volunteers though, drawn from the sons of the Chinese Red Army soldiers, and so you have these familial ties linking them together. When I was writing Walls of Men, a lot of the PLA culture was hidden, hard to source, but the last couple of years Type 56 and some of the other Youtubers have mapped it out reasonably well. My book didn't get into the weeds, but my assessment that they are completely untested still holds.

starting in El Salvador, and spreading to the other central and some of the south american countries, there is a feeling that these externally imposed human rights standards of dealing with massive disrupters in society is something rich nations can dabble in, but starting in a society that is being destroyed and captured by intentional violence, rounding up, say, everyone that has gang tattoos and stuffing them in a hell hole, or worse, is probably the only way to get control of the situation.

162 > Also there are X-ray methods.

Grok says Xray fluorescence only penetrates 10-50 microns. It also says Radiographic Xray imaging would find the difference between gold cladding and the tungsten core to be very low contrast, especially for thicker bars.

Grok says ultrasonic testing would do better to reveal internal inconsistencies.

The origin of gold (and other heavy elements like uranium) has been something of mystery. Back in the day, they sort of hand-waved that these elements were produced in supernovae. But they can't produce much of it. You need something called the r-process, very high speed neutron rich conditions to do it.

That's been solved of late. Most of the gold comes from neutron star mergers and magnetar flares, the latter being a surprising new process discovered recently.
