  • Notepad++, a text editor used by every programmer in the world, got hijacked and used to install malware. (Notepad++)

You're probably safe to click on that link. I think.

The server providing software updates for Notepad++ got hacked to selectively deliver malware, apparently by West Taiwan targeting specific users in Taiwan.

This went undetected for months because of the focused nature of the attack; if it had affected everyone who uses the software it would have been uncovered the next day. And would also have been a global catastrophe, because that would have given the attackers an indirect back door into basically everything.

So it could have been worse, but is more than a little worrying.

23 My Bible ( Life Application Bible-KJV) has some notes on Psalm 86 as a model for prayer. It says "David provides a wonderful outline we can pray today":

1. Dear, Lord, we can begin, I ask that you will hear and answer my prayer (86:1. 6 ) 2. Protect and save my life ( 86:2) 3. Be merciful to me ( 86:3. 16) 4. Give me joy and satisfaction ( 86; 4) 5. Teach me ( (86:11) and ) (7) show me your goodness ( 86:17) .

I thought that was very helpful.

24 Feb. 2 has been observed as the midpoint of winter, six weeks from 12/22 and six to go until 3/22, for a long time. It used to be called "Candlemas," and there was a rhyme: "If Candlemas be fair and clear / There be twa [two] winters in the year." Apparently in folklore and sympathetic magic, there was the notion that "If A occurs now, then (opposite of A) will occur in the future."

This concept may be built into the human psyche.

45 I still use an older version of NPP. I think the developer kind of trended woke, ( just checked, he's on BlueSky, so yeah )

For those who had to suffer with Windows Notepad, this app was a game-changer. For me, the killer feature was the ability to cut and paste columns of text. Before NPP, you had to throw whatever you needed to work on into Excel and use that to make columns. This was way easier...

Attacking tools is pretty rough, especially when they're tools not thought of as "connected." NP++ isn't connected, exactly, but it does pull updates and allows plugins. One of the things that makes the tool so useful and universal.

Could be a long, long time. Like "forever" long. That kind of resolution has its uses for high-end monitors, especially in mining, medicine, CAD and finance. And those industries can pay for them. Getting the production scale needed to bring pricing in line with what "normal people" can pay requires TVs and there's little point in 8K TV set.

93 "How do you like it and how long have you had it? Do you subscribe to any of the subscriptions? First I’ve heard if it was your comment."

We have the WS-2000, which has had several improvements and upgrades since we purchased this one six years ago.

Mounted on the fence between our yard and the neighbors at about the 8 foot level, it has been absolutely rock solid in performance and connectivity.

The Ambient community allows you to share your data with others, so it lets me in map form compare my readings with others nearby, and they usually track within about .2 degrees.

The only subscription I pay is for the feature which allows detailed graphing of data by the 5 minute increment for up to the last three years.
We do this because after we upgraded the entire heatpump system, I wanted to be able to monitor humidity and temperature both upstairs and downstairs, and that required the purchase of a separate remote sensor.

But setting that aside and just going with the basic system, there are no recurring subscriptions or cost.

95 Well, there it is....15.8 degrees in the yard.

And looks to be dropping with sunrise just now occurring.

I really enjoy the part of left-wing journalism "punching up" where they investigate the victims of crime to make sure that they were bad people

101 VIA,

Thank you. Sounds like you are happy with it. A bewildering array of weather stations out there. I’ll expand my search to include ambient.

102 90 Suddenly it doesn't seem so shocking that the crowd would cheer for the release of Barabbus, a criminal and murderer, while condemning Jesus, the man who peacefully spoke the truth.

As the good book says, there's nothing new under the sun.

103 >>I check the obituaries every morning. If my name isn't there, it'll be a pretty good day.

In the bulletin for the first weekend in November, the parish my folks belong to posts a list of parishioners who passed away during the preceding year. The year Dad died, my Mom showed me that bulletin: it was my name instead of his. Very weird feeling.

104 57 The high today may be about 60. I could go work out about 3 pm. I don't like doing it then; there is more traffic on the roads leading to the little walking trail about 1/2 mile away. But if one must, one must.

So, you're just trolling here, right?

105 >The future will not be in 8k

I have a fairly low-end, 6 year old 4K 65" TV and I can't tell the difference between a 1080p signal upscaled by either my XBox or my FireStick, and a native 4K signal passed directly through. And I'm pretty picky about picture quality. It might just be the TV, but I'm pretty sure that short of 85"+ screens no one can tell the difference between 4K and 8K.
