Good question. In the meantime, CEO Stubblebine is not going to dictate other peoples' politics by having his work force go out and protest to drive a different set of other peoples' politics. I grew up (well, from 5 until I left) in Giles County, but that was late 1960s to middle 1970s. I remember frost in the mornings from early November (but that could be old man memories), but not that many ice storms/heavy snows. I remember it being in the 10s (F) as being extremely cold, while it being in the 20s (F) was just really cold. Posted by: Richard Cranium at January 30, 2026 04:33 AM (m7Osq) 15

How to get a 3 day weekend:
"Hey boss, I need to protest a horrible thing and I need time off from work to do it. You're not going to be worthless shit and dock me in some way for that perfectly politically motivated protest, will you? No? Good. I'd like to use a Friday or Monday for that protest, OK?" JFC. A fun little 1949 SF film, It Happens Every Spring w/ Ray Milland and Jean Peters, is on Movies! I recall seeing it as a kid. Milland plays a college professor who discovers a substance that, when rubbed onto an object, is repelled by wood. So, like any good mid-century American sports fan, he becomes a major league pitcher. His baseballs basically swerve *around* the hitter's bat, and he can pitch no-hitters with ease. Fun stuff, and not marketed as science fiction at the time and usually overlooked by SF film historians.

"The other McCain" ( which J.J will likely have in his MR so I won't link it) asks "Why do Democrats hate Christians?" But he notes this at the end about Christians voting overwhelmingly for Trump:
Every Democrat nodded in agreement with that remarkable denunciation, because they’ve all seen the same exit-poll data. And I am not here to preach, dear brothers and sisters, but I feel the need to point out that it doesn’t matter whether you’re white, or whether you’re a Christian, or whether you consider yourself “born again.” You could be an atheist or a Muslim, black or Asian, gay or straight — it doesn’t matter who you are, if you vote Republican, you’re a “cancer,” according to Democrats. The only category of sin they recognize is voting Republican. Liberalism is the only faith they have, and they will cling to it all the way to the grave and beyond. God will judge them, as He will judge us all. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 30, 2026 06:14 AM (D+BhG) 97

"Why do Democrats hate Christians?"
Because this is at foremost a spiritual battle and the Demonic Party has repelled People of Faith because the Party, a consolidated secular expression of the Fallen Nature of Man is violently against human flourishing, categorically rejects Imago Dei, and embraces craven materialism. The GOP is "the other cola" because the Left has consumed the Demonic Party and in a Two Party system, its either Demonic-Lite or sitting at home in November. How we created more technical debt in six months
Some companies' management beg for it. A former Fortune 500 department store had floors of people skilled in C/C++ and Visual Basic to maintain and grow their non-datacenter operations (back-office, Point-of-Sale, etc.) Then management read in an IT magazine that the cool kids were going to Java (this was decades before Java had any meaningful enterprise frameworks). So they went from centuries of collective experience to zero years across the entire development team of language/paradigm experience. I'm watching in Real Time as a national bank swaps out their Core Banking System after exasperation with an ill-fitting CBS, and doing this on a short runway. DeForest Kelley is on Robert Culp's Trackdown on Heroes & Icons, playing a particularly nasty villain with a strong Southern accent. This was some seven years before his Dr. McCoy role. He'd done a lot of Westerns, usually playing non-sympathetic characters or outright villains, before Roddenberry tapped him for his Police Story unsold pilot, and then for the McCoy role.
