Note that the program they afforded allowed them to either allow the US government to verify the claims made, or else California could opt out of this federal verification and do the verification themselves. California chose to do its own verification. And then provided phone and internet service for almost 100,000 dead people.California obtained millions in federal funds to cover phone and internet service for 94,000 dead people, a new report from the Federal Communications Commission has revealed. The state took in $3.8 million between 2020 and 2025 through the federal Lifeline program, which spends nearly $1 billion annually to subsidize phone and internet service for low-income Americans, according to the FCC's inspector general. Of the three states named in the report, California collected the most money by a long shot -- accounting for more than 80% of the payments, the report said. "Gavin Newsom's California was by far the worst offender of these opt-out states," FCC Chair Brendan Carr wrote on X, referencing states that oversaw the program's verification process for recipients. He said that the FCC has revoked the state's authority to manage verification. Newsom's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Of the 116,808 deceased individuals in opt-out states, roughly two-thirds (77,446) were enrolled after their deaths, the report stated. It's almost as if the Democrat Party no longer votes for billion-dollar boondoggles for the poor, but billion dollar boondoggles to personally enrich themselves and their billionaire donors.

California chose to do its own verification. What would be involved in revoking CA statehood and reverting it to a territory?
Yo Grok, wake up Grok The U.S. Constitution does not provide any explicit mechanism for revoking a state's statehood or reverting it to territorial status, as the framers designed the Union to be perpetual and indestructible. Hypothetically, pursuing this for California would involve unprecedented and likely insurmountable steps, as it lacks legal foundation...blah blah Congress oh, so it's a Longshot dependent on the guys who don't have the stones to pass a clean budget. Note that the program they afforded allowed them to either allow the US government to verify the claims made, or else California could opt out of this federal verification and do the verification themselves.
California chose to do its own verification. And then provided phone and internet service for almost 100,000 dead people. ++++ Worse solution: forbid the state from doing its own verification if it has failed to successfully implement and enforce verification Better solution: End these programs and obviate the problem Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 28, 2026 04:41 PM (MABZ1) Let state opt out, then drop them if they try, for good. For some reason with this post I remembered a crazy thing after my brother's unexpected death from a massive stroke. I loved him dearly as the funniest person on earth.
I had to go with my mother and other brother to do funeral home stuff, which I try to avoid as much as possible. The ghouls that work there flip me out as much as car or furniture salesmen. Anyway, we were sitting around a big table and the ghouls were faking being sorry for us. They asked for my cell phone number and others. Then asked for my late brother's, which I found peculiar. I said, while laughing, "Why? He can't answer or call you back?" My other brother smiled and my mother sort of did as they know I am not always suitable to be in public even in normal times. We then went to the cemetary where my mother got enraged with those ghouls at the cost of opening an empty grave that had been paid for 60yrs prior. My brother and I stared at each other as she raked a man over the coals. I guess this was our grieving process. We were all better after that. Directly out of your pocket, by the way. Not kidding.
Lifeline is only pseudo-government. It is administered by the FCC, but it isn't funded via appropriation under normal process. It is funded out of the Universal Service Fund. The Universal Service Fund is itself funded outside of appropriations. It is funded through a line-item on your telecom bill. Go look. It's called the "Universal Service Fee," and you pay it every month when you pay your bill. This originated as a part of the AT&T breakup and divestiture. It didn't exist before that, because AT&T subsidized rural and other low-profit or special-case services by charging through the nose for long distance (remember that)? With long-distance deregulation, that silent subsidy ended. The solution was the Universal Service Fund. So in this unusual cases, California's fraudsters actually aren't stealing from taxpayers. Instead, they're stealing from every single person and business in the country who pays a phone bill. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 28, 2026 04:49 PM (MABZ1) 129

California obtained millions in federal funds to cover phone and internet service for 94,000 dead people, a new report from the Federal Communications Commission has revealed.
The state took in $3.8 million between 2020 and 2025 through the federal Lifeline program, which spends nearly $1 billion annually to subsidize phone and internet service for low-income Americans, according to the FCC's inspector general. ++++ Doesn't add up. That's five years, or $760k per year. Per the FCC, the subsidy is $9.25/month per recipient (unless you're an Indian on a reservation, in which case it is $34.25). So 95,000 phony recipients - assuming none are on tribal lands - comes to $878,750. That is more than the $760k average that, if I am reading the excerpt correctly, amounts to California's total take out of the program. The $3.5 million over five years is wrong, or the 95k phony recipients is wrong. These two things cannot be simultaneously true. 94,000 people would be a total subsidy for those people for an entire year of $10.434 million. One year, not five. These numbers just don't make sense. Their argument breaks down something like this: We are right The cops are wrong. If you do so unarmed they are going to punch/kick/wrestle/taze you. And...perhaps shoot you. The more I think about it, the more I agree with the angle that what we're seeing in Minneapolis implies that Trump, MAGA, MAHA, and Doge must somehow pose an existential threat to Postmodern Leftism. We have learned from their anti-ICE operations that American Socialists have in place an entire Insurgency level of organizational structure and training, which would have remained invisible if they had not used it. And, that's the key for me: using the infrastructure of the Socialist Insurgency meant making it vulnerable to exposure, which makes it vulnerable to counter-insurgency operations, but they did it anyway.
And, it also exposes by implication that there is likely a parallel infrastructure built up throughout the entire West, at least all of Europe and the Anglosphere, and probably everywhere that USAID and the Open Society Foundation spread their tendrils. So, the threat must be far vaster than the removal of a thousand specific illegal aliens, or even a million. They must have been reacting to a threat to something as least as valuable to them as the Global Socialist Insurgency infrastructure that they have exposed to potential erosion and removal. At what point does concealed carry become brandishing? I support the former while the latter just seems to be an excuse to get ventilated with prejudice.
Posted by: Heavy Meta ====== Once you engage in illegal actions like fighting with an officer, then they have the right to disarm you by force including deadly if you resist. Only a very stupid person and one that should not be carrying in the first place purposefully engages cops of any flavor, local, state, or federal while armed. Oh, and BTW TJM, No cop has to give you Miranda rights when they arrest you. They only have to do that before interrogation as in custody. Arrests only require probable cause witnessed by the officer or already preexisting in a warrant, etc. My Criminal Law students all freaked out when I told them that. I also told them flat out never resist, talk back, nor try to wheedle them out of a ticket, etc. to a cop on the side of the road. Save it for court. Posted by: whig at January 28, 2026 05:27 PM (E4rtv) 251
Another thing to remember, don't carry off your property without using holsters. Many states have holster laws for firearms due to accidental discharges, etc.
If you like to go armed, then sure as hell follow ALL relevant state laws where ever you are. Even if they appear stupid to you, in a police encounter, you might take a ride downtown, lose your ability to buy a firearm in the future, and end up with a record. Same applies dealing with federal lands. Follow the laws no matter how stupid they are. GOA is not gonna get you off nor is the 2AF. And if you have concealed carry insurance, they may well cancel you if you are caught violating firearm laws or fighting with cops. Posted by: whig at January 28, 2026 05:30 PM (E4rtv) 252

The angel of death Virginia nurse had her RN papers revoked today. The state should look at all her care on every shift she pulled.

The synecdoche one is hilarious as well. When I first saw that, I pronounced it synec-douche. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at January 28, 2026 05:05 PM (w6EFb) I pronounce it Mak-a-BREE when I want to be annoying. Posted by: Oldcat at January 28, 2026 05:37 PM (8avO+) 259

Those CA people are not dead! They're working on the high speed rail!
I think the administration should have a show on Newsmax or a podcast called "This Week in Fraud" and highlight all the billions they have discovered with a tally on screen. They could also keep a tally of indictments for same. Rand Paul could visit, Oz, Elon. It would be a blast.
