This dog's motivations are inscrutable. Dachshund tests the stairs for safety. You: I'll spend $30 on a cat toy and be a real hero! Your Cat: Go *** yourself, asshole. A debate point:
============ - Here's what's going down in Minneapolis; ICE goes in and does their job arresting/processing and deporting illegals. Local leftists get torqued, gin up anti-ICE protests and get national/international monetary support for it. The situation degrades. Call in Border Patrol Service. The proverbial mounted calvary. Ride in, break some shit, kill a few leftists. Be the stick. Local politicos, especially one governor who's a weirdo, gets a sternly worderd memo about FAFO. A couple days later the BPS is pulled from Minneapolis and the governor would like to talk to Trump about "turning down the heat." The plot to nearly every fucking Western. Ever. Walz caved. Minneapolis is restored to order by the end of the week. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 26, 2026 07:29 PM (qwVdq) 9

Our first puppy was part husky/malamute. She loved the snow. On sunny days would sleep on it.
She and my husband had a hockey type game with a tennis ball. No matter how deep the snowdrift she'd stick her head in and find the ball. The goal was her doghouse and she was the goalie. It was rare to score a point on her. She'd jump up for snowballs, etc, like the doggie above. We took her to my parent's farm and then the beaches of Panama City, where she managed to get fleas (rare in the West). She also wanted to kill the lifeguard dead on the beach, but otherwise she was good. Oh, she killed an opossum within minutes of arriving at my parent's farm. She did protect me once, so I was glad she liked me. Either a peeping Tom or a potential burgler (idiot, we had nothing to rob). She sensed I was stressed and was right next to me as I dressed. We rarely locked the back door. I opened it and he got the surprise of his life when I told her to "get him." She leapt at him from the three steps and he ran. She did get a his jean pocket and bit his arse as he jumped the back fence. Good girl! She was not trained to attack, she just knew what to do Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at January 26, 2026 07:44 PM (WONhk) 43

Carried over from the previous thread (quoting Walz or Frey): I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. The president agreed the present situation can’t continue. I read somewhere within the last day or two that the Minnesota DFL Party had originally wanted to hook Laos' Hmong people in the 70s and 80s as their new "little brown brothers" to swap in for Hispanics, who the DFL saw at that time as wandering off their dependency plantation in the not too distant future. But the Hmong were having none of that, being a proud, forthright and capable people. So the DFL cast about for a replacement population and eventually latched on to the intellectually challenged Somalis. And the rest is history. Reserve currency status for the dollar was a curse, I think, in retrospect. I understand why things were setup in the postwar period the way they were, but it has caused great damage.
Congress has the ability to spend what are essentially unlimited amounts of borrowed money, that does not exist, on whatever they want. And the “debt shall not be questioned” we are admonished. None of the insanity we have been subject to for the last 60 years would have been possible without prodigious or copious quantities of confetti-buck dollars shot from the Fed cannon. In a legitimate or at least sane monetary system, these sorts of insane spending sprees either on stupid foreign wars or whack job domestic fraud programs, none of it is possible. There isn’t enough money in the world. Posted by: Common Tater at January 26, 2026 07:49 PM (BORTq) 59

Usually a pound is the bare minimum before protocol demands resupply, although I’ve a can of pre-cooked Bacon for this purpose for the extreme. Also “must haves” includes coffee, tea, cocoa, peanut butter, oats, macaroni, popcorn. Corned beef hash in a can is good stash, too. Crack a couple eggs on top when done, cover & steam poach them. I lived for 3 years on Palisade Avenue in Riverdale, Bronx, right up the cliff from the Hudson. NYC, but you'd hardly believe it. The garage under the house was big enough for 3 cars and was drilled, probably blasted into the granite. Caught 9 raccoons in Havahart trap after moving in. Released them into a big park a few miles north. The neighborhood also had the most ring-necked pheasants I've ever seen.

Speaking of Ryan Hall, I just read his analysis of what saved us in the Carolinas (as a whole) from Icemaggedon. It fell mostly as sleet, which I noted and kept my fingers crossed. The dreaded warm nose was there, but the surface layer was cold enough high enough to allow most it to refreeze as sleet. Had that been a little different, it would've been terrible. That's the what the probability ball bounced. Now for Miss. and Tenn. they did get ice big time, and they are in the dark big time as well. You have the right to peaceable assembly to address grievances with your government. You do not have the right to impede federal officers while they are lawfully conducting operations, as stipulated by the US Congress in laws passed by duly elected Congresscritters.
Therefore, these "protestors," particularly the ones impeding ICE but also those trespassing and attacking Churches, need to be rounded up and sentenced under Federal charges of terrorism. Gitmo would be too kind for most of them. Those who fund these terrorists are likewise terrorists and should face the same penalties. They have stolen from my pocket, they have injured and harmed US citizens, and, to my mind, the worst is that they frightened children. Fuckers need to pay. And if some of them fall down stairs on the way to trial, well, shit happens. Posted by: tcn in AK at January 26, 2026 09:42 PM (6Bc88) 245

>> I'm grateful we missed the ice, but they were way off for us, even Ryan!
It's a game of juggling probabilities. Weather behavior is where Chaos Theory got its start. Several years ago I asked my late cousin, retired meteorologist who was at GSP for years, if it was going to snow. He earnestly replied, "Well, it might and it might not, and if it does, could be a little, could be a lot." That's all he could say with certainty. As he mentioned many times, they walk a thin line between too much warning and not enough. Say there's a 20% chance something really bad will happen. There's an 80% chance it won't. If they shout from the rooftops to get ready, a Bad Moon is on the rise, run for you lives, and it doesn't happen, they're Chicken Little. But on the other hand, if they don't warn people, and the really bad thing happens, it's why didn't you warn us! When the well runs dry, and I think it will, they will return to being a bitter tribe , scrabbling in the dirt. Posted by: Sock Monkey ============== I've been wondering about that, and the trouble I see is that they're utterly disinclined to work. How many of them speak comprehensible English? Would you hire one of those things in those videos? "Whut? No. No no no. They say bad things him here." The women are loping, bedraggled slobs who couldn't function in any job like cleaning, serving, stocking shelves, or greeting guests. The men look like they can barely pick up their feet when they walk. They don't have any intention of getting with the program. We'll need more laws cutting them off welfare.
