My trusty Heathkit digital thermometer that has been operating since 1978 when I put it together says it is 7 degrees outside. It's ridiculous here in the Mid-Atlantic, yes it's been in the single digits before, but subfreezing for the next 9 days? Really?

Evening and morning, Saturday toilers and early weekend risers!
The Big Rain is supposed to start here about 2 pm. It may continue into Sunday morning. The high tomorrow is supposed to be, get this, about 68 . . . and then the bottom will fall out, so the weather "experts" say, and crash down to 24. Minor league stuff, I know -- but people here grumble when temps drop below 50 and panic when it gets near freezing. Anyway! Here I am, furry thugs trotting about hinting that breakfast is overdue, as I sip coffee. Howzabout you? Ok, here goes. If you have a spouse, job, and children you have little to zero time to go follow law enforcement officers around and interfere with them as they go about their duties. You also have exhibited extremely poor judgement, and it's time to consider all of the life choices that have brought you to this place and decide what changes are necessary to lead you to something better. Oh. spelled it out at #92 SPP = Southwest Power Pool. EROCT = Electric Reliability Council of Texas. ERCOT, which covers MOST of Texas was in the news due to the embarrassing spectacle of the being less than five minutes from total grid collapse due to ERCOT's dangerously high reliance on wind and the wind mills freezing back in Feb/21 SPP, while is has windmills, still relies more on NatGas and Coal (+ Hydro) and it reaches from Canada down into the Northeastern portion of Texas. East Texas is largely on SPP rather than ERCOT (Tyler is in ERCOT). I moved out of ERCOT because it was run by retards who didn't even live in Texas or even in the US. TX legislators are also retards and fell for Al Gore's lies and wrecked the grid with Wind/Solar. Unfortunately, my current issue isn't grid stability, but live in oil and tree country where in the 1930s they didn't really think about sleet and wind when playing cat's cradle with the power lines through the woods. Texas ran into trouble on that one, in part because some geniuses decided that natural gas pipeline pumps really oughtta be solar powered.
They had long been powered rather ingeniously, by get this - natural gas. A rather elegant engineering solution. Oops. I’m sure they have remedied this defect by now. Right? Posted by: Common Tater at January 24, 2026 07:49 AM (PQwzA) 116

If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much. Yeah, I grew up in western Michigan. Posted by: Additional Blond Agent It was in Holland, MI that I witnessed two very young twin boys pick off the ground pieces of that thin plastic strapping that gets wrapped around everything, put them in their mouths, and proceed to clean them by moving them forth and back like dental floss. Did I mention these straps clearly were dirty? It was only later in life that I figured what I saw was their immune systems telling them, "Time for my version of going to the gym, kiddos!"
