Mornin'
Upgraded Linux Mint 22.2 to 22.3. I have soup in the crockpot, about a half hour to go. I go back to work tonight. Could be sporty weather wise this weekend. I'm praying the bad snow fall happens on Sunday afternoon. I'll be home then. Hopefully the car will behave. Not sure it's had to deal with weather in the low teens for a few days. I was assured Global Warming was going to heat things up. Seems a glacier is showing up this weekend here in Babylon DC. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. 7 cold degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor. A good 4 hours of work ahead. Not going to be a happy day for me. All I can do is keep telling myself that February 11 is coming soon.
Actually, I'll be retired and Don Lemon will still be untouched. I have no doubt the DoJ is, at this moment, wondering how they can 'open an investigation' to fool the base and yet make sure the 'investigation' goes nowhere. Today is the one-year anniversary of the Big Snow in Lousy-ana. My employer had announced in advance that we'd have at least that day off. I'd stayed up the night before to watch Trump's inauguration party (what a relief after four terrible years of Joey the Crayon-Eater, to think we might still have a real country). Then, when I woke up, there was this white stuff coating the street and the lawns and the cars. I hadn't seen it since my days in Denver.
I'd parked the car the day before in the back lot away from trees, in a spot where it would get afternoon sun to help melt the snowpack once the sky cleared. And I have an ice scraper in the trunk. No idea what my neighbors did to get the snow and ice off their windshields. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 21, 2026 05:28 AM (wzUl9) 34

Not to mention, with a historic snow event and a cheering restoration of Trump in January, I was looking forward (as is MP4) to retiring. I didn't want to wait until summer, as I might get caught up in organizing the move of my office to a new building. So I set March 31 as my last day.
The move did happen, I understand, and I imagine it was a hell of an undertaking. I'm more than glad I wasn't there to be in charge of it! Do I feel as though I was abandoning my colleagues, as Tampon Tim did his military unit before it was deployed overseas? I have lived long enough to see the culture go completely to rot. Actually, three times. When a threshold was reached I moved to a better place and watched the problem repeat. Keep out of the cultural currents. Stay off the X (double entendre). Purge the social crap, then life is what can be expected if you have high standards in a Fallen and cursed world. In the meantime, enjoy the things that you have earned and have built. The technical side of pretty much every industry has grown to great new marvels, enjoy what you can, be aware, but don't immerse in the fact that evil people corrupt all of these things. But the most important thing is be Grateful for every blessing, count those, and there isn't time to worry about the rest of the world - just be aware what they are doing and don't be a part of them. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at January 21, 2026 06:28 AM (a4flb) I think the principal concern should be what we do if the power goes out. Bitter experience tells us we'll be the last ones to have it restored. We have two 7500 watt generators and a 3500 watt one. We also have a transfer switch so that we can run the furnace and well. So, yes, I'll make sure we have plenty of gas on hand. They were scheduled to deliver propane on Monday, but they've deferred it to next Monday. In any case, the tank is about half full. I think the principal concern should be what we do if the power goes out. Bitter experience tells us we'll be the last ones to have it restored.
Dittos. Not so bitter though, if you prep. Before the Great Texas Freeze and Power Outage of Feb 2021, had no generator. Fortunately we were on the same grid circuit as a number of nursing homes so the power was out for a few hours, not for a week. Now have an inverter generator that can drive a five-ton heat pump plus all the usual stuff in the house. Problem is when the heat strips kick in for a few minutes for de-icing of the lines - it exceeds the generator's capacity. Noticed that Harbor Freight has one suitable enough for $2200. The smaller the better because 95% of the time, the generator only feeds no more than 1000W of total household use. Its when the microwave, septic tank pump or water heater kicks in that the extra head room is good. I can keep a house at 72°F in the 100°F summer on 14 gallons a day. A Generac can't touch that number. I don't know what cold will do, probably just run the blowers and let the fireplace do the work. I hear this all the time. Hendrix whatever. Pretty good company to be compared to. Frank was a monster guitar player all on his own. Certainly inspired by Hendrix.
Remember coming really early to the Bronco Bowl in Dallas to be let in and Marino was doing a "sound check" of quality jams that lasted for an hour. Then he performed a long concert. Monster indeed. Loved "Live" album. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at January 21, 2026 06:52 AM (a4flb) 97
Morning peeps
It's 30.6F here this morning and sleeting. First time in a while it's been this "warm" in the morning. All the weather talk is about a potentially big winter storm this weekend. And power outages. What fun. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 21, 2026 06:53 AM (U2OZr) Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 21, 2026 06:53 AM (ix8EF) 99

I guess the rioters will be invading more churches to stay warm.
I recommend, given the temperatures, that for the churches they attempt to raid that the demonstrators are given a free outdoor baptism. A good hose will be ideal for Confessional denominations, Evangelicals will have to temporarily abandon credo-baptism modes and adopt pedo-baptism modes, but they are good at compromise. It's interesting to compare a guitar player that plays a left handed Fender Stratocaster to a player that plays a right-handed Gibson SG and can get a similar experience. Pretty good stuff.

Posted by: The Experts, circa 2000 at January 21, 2026 06:56 AM (Lq/LE) --- Considering how little snow we've gotten around here and how mild it's been this winter, I'm *almost* inclined to listen. Almost. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at January 21, 2026 06:57 AM (ESVrU) 106
AG retweeted
Carrie Severino @JCNSeverino 15h Must Listen: Justice Alito reveals the obvious irony of citing the Black Codes as justification for Hawaii’s 2023 firearm restriction law. “They wanted to disarm the Black population in order to help the Klan terrorize them...they wanted to put them at the mercy of racist law enforcement officers. So is it not the height of irony to cite a law that was enacted for exactly the purpose of preventing someone from exercising the Second Amendment right, to cite this as an example of what the Second Amendment protects.” Posted by: m at January 21, 2026 06:58 AM (SSiCQ) 107

nice point:
AG @AGHamilton29 11h Governing is much harder than getting people outraged for clicks. What @HarmeetKDhillon has been exposing in the last few days is that there are a lot of people in the commentator and influencer space who view their main role as just to create anger and outrage, whether it is justified or not. You should not trust those people to give you reliable information about what is happening or what is feasible because that isn’t their goal. It’s also not their goal to drive actual results. As far as this angry agitator in MN, Mr. Kelly, I prefer Thomas Raymond Kelly who died in 1941. He was a Quaker who wrote one of my favorite devotional books, "A Testament of Devotion": This is just one quote from it:
"The life that intends to be wholly obedient, wholly submissive, wholly listening, is astonishing in its completeness. Its joys are ravishing, its peace profound, its humility the deepest, its power world-shaking, its love enveloping, its simplicity that of a trusting child."
