Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump's One Year Anniversary: Many Successes, Many Promises KeptTrump took office one year ago, January 20, 2025. Amanda Head of Just the News notes some of the big success.More at the link, including the peace deals. Which brings me to a point of dissatisfaction: Trump might just have decided that Obama Was Right to Spare the Mullahs and Protect the Ayatollah. I don't know if this is true -- the USS Abraham Lincoln is still four days away (I think) from Iran -- but it looks like he's selling out the Iranian protesters he urged to take to the streets and "TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!" If [leftwing critics]had been right this time [that Trump is a warmonger], we'd now be hearing Trump give the command for "bombs away" over Tehran. Instead, there he was on the White House lawn Friday afternoon, pointedly thanking the mullahs for not following through on their vow to execute hundreds of political prisoners rounded up in the protests. "Iran canceled the hanging of over 800 people," Trump said, adding that he "greatly respected" the move. To those with an honest and open mind, the week's roller coaster ride illustrated how Trump's fondness for talking about America's military might is often purposeful sword-rattling. The bluster, this time and often, serves as an invitation to negotiations or is so persuasive that he gets most of what he wants without having to fire a shot. 'I convinced myself' As the week began, the scenes in Iran looked like a five-alarm fire. With the mullahs slaughtering their own citizens for the crime of protesting a collapsing economy, the calls for America to stop it grew louder, and Trump was game. He gave every indication that our military was locked, loaded and ready to go. In a bristling Tuesday post on Truth Social, he sounded prepared to take action with his promise to the brave demonstrators that "help is on its way." "KEEP PROTESTING -- TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!!." He urged those in the streets, adding, "Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price." Within 24 hours, he pulled back and explained the move by saying "very important sources" told him Iran had stopped killing protesters and was not moving forward with mass executions. It's not clear where he got that information, but so far it has been largely accurate. Additionally, reports surfaced that Trump was hearing warnings from our regional allies, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Turkey, that hitting Iran could ignite a much bigger war because of counterattacks by Iran and its heavily armed terror allies, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. Some warnings raised the possibility of an Iranian civil war that could unleash a flood of refugees. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also asked Trump to postpone any attack so Israel would have more time to prepare for the likelihood that it would be a target of Iranian retaliation. On Friday, Trump rebuffed the chatter that pressure from foreign leaders led him to pull back. "Nobody convinced me. I convinced myself," he told reporters. He also added that the regime's canceling of executions "had a big impact" on his decision. The Wall Street Journal added two other factors. First, military advisers told the president the US must beef up its resources in the region to carry out a significant attack and also protect our troops and allies. The second reason was that Trump was told that a military attack probably would not topple the Islamic regime but would result in stepped-up brutality against demonstrators. The upshot is that Trump's decision to hold off on a military strike was clearly the right and prudent call, at least for now.Another reason? He keeps meeting with the sinister Islamist Tucker Carlson.
GrokI'm still hoping that Trump is making pacifist noises just to encourage the Iranians to stop the mass slaughter of civilians. I hope he's playing them, to give the protesters time until US forces are gathered and ready to strike. But I kind of doubt that. I think the sinister Islamist Tucker Carlson has once again tricked Trump into pursuing the Carlson Foreign Policy rather than the Trump Foreign Policy we actually voted for. GDP growth
The latest BEA (Bureau of Economic Analysis) numbers show real domestic Gross Domestic Product grew at a solid 4.3% annualized pace in the third quarter of 2025 (July--September), and the Atlanta Fed's GDPNow is now pointing to roughly 5.3% for the fourth quarter of 2025 -- up substantially from the roughly 2.4% annualized growth in fourth-quarter 2024 toward the end of the Biden administration. ======= It's a point to consider that if you remove government spending, we haven't had positive GDP growth since 2007. Will late 2025 buck that trend? End the actual nearly 20 year depression that we've been in? Fingers crossed! I was listenting to our chatty Prez. while driving. I don't know if he was embellishing or not, but he said he think he can get growth of the economy well above the projected 5% in the fourth quarter. He thinks that the 4th quarter will not only exceed 5%, he thinks sometime next year we will approach 20%.....and then added the caveat, provided the Fed doesn't try to continue to sabotage it. He then went into a diatribe about how in the old days the Fed used to lower or sit on interest rates even (and especially) during a prosperous time, to make it that much more strong.

We spent months observing Maduro's habits, built a mock up of his bunker and rehearsed everything thousands of times. That little op was pretty fucking impressive.
Iran is a thousand times more difficult. We don't know where the mullahs are at every time of day/night. We don't know who among these "freedom loving Iranians" are actually Islamic assholes with weapons and a desire to kill. We don't have eyes on the thousands of ballistic missiles still a threat, and we certainly don't know who's got the proverbial keys to them. There are good reasons to hold off on a full attack on Iran, even though I want them to fall as much or more than anyone here.
First: air strikes alone will not topple that regime. With all this warning, the top people will all be in deep bunkers; maybe we know where they are, maybe not, but Iran is a huge country. Also: the military and paramilitary forces are dispersed to the cities; to hit them now requires hitting the cities, not just their bases. And most of all - we do not have a good "casus belli", a strong legal justification for launching an attack, which if we're honest means starting a war at least as big as the war against Saddam. I think we could win, but this is going to be a hell of a lot longer and messier than any of us would like to think. so what should we do? Posted by: Tom Servo at January 20, 2026 04:05 PM (giMmT) 67

He definitely came out the gates on fire with the exec orders and Musk / DOGE this time, and it's good to see ICE going hard at it, but IMO the Iran strikes and Maduro aren't dissimilar in boldness to taking out Suleimani and getting direct with Kim Jong Un. We don't have Russiagate and his crew did a better job of cutting out deep staters, but the swamp is still there and this inaction on Dem rioters, Dem politicians fomenting it, no accountability from the 2020 elections or COVID or Summer of Love or conservative blacklisting or autopen, but keep telling us to wait for it... Feels like we're waiting for John Durham all over again. Having a hard time feeling Pam Bondi isn't a problem...

so, what should we do?
First, make sure we are in a very strong defensive posture, both for ourselves and our allies. Iran could easily do something incredibly stupid here; launch missile attacks on Israel, or the Saudi's, or are ships just because they're desperate and crazy. That would actually be a big win for us, since that would give us our casus belli. after that, the best we can do is covert ops to weaken the regime, while at the same time they wither due to the complete collapse of their financial sector. Opportunities will arise in various places. Perhaps weapons can be smuggled in. Wait for the enemy to make a big mistake. Iran is like the 3rd Reich in the spring of 1945; they're on the way down, but they can still cause a hell of a lot of death and mayhem on the way their. Tucker is a big fan of Maduro, claims he is THE champion of the western anti-gay marriage movement, and Trump still took him down. I don't think Tucker is controlling Trump anymore than Netanyahu or Putin.
I think Trump knows he's not the omnipotent King of the World and while he wants to help where he can not at the risk of hurting America or our interests. Perhaps we didn't have the assets prepared or he was warned that the thousands of jihadists Biden let into the US would hit back or maybe we just couldn't do much to hurt the mullahs without boots on the ground. Could be a lot of things but I don't think he listens to anyone enough to be swayed by an argument about evil Jews taking the world and I really don't think Tucker has much influence at all. It's easy to feel overconfident because of the mission against Iran's nuke's sites - but be clear about what that was, and what that wasn't. That was a finite, carefully defined mission against a few very specific locations. And it was carried out marvelously.
Regime Change is nothing like that at all - this is like trying to get Saddam out of Iraq. Remember the air campaign of Shock and Awe? I suspected this with Venezuela, and a couple days ago he mentioned it briefly that he did not want to "fire everyone" for a regime change because that is what the "very stupid people" did with Iraq and we were left with a mess. So it comes down to figuring out a path for debathification -- or demullahization -- that does not lead to chaos. That is a tough nut. Trump has done more, way more, then I expected.
But TBH not as much as a I hoped. And the interesting thing is you can break it down by departments where say Rubio or Bessent have been VERY successful and other like Bondi not as much. Yes, before the discussion goes down that path there are different levels of challenge in different departments. But, here is my metric for what Trump needs to do THIS year to be successful: 1) The economy is seen as strong by the end of the summer - this will have a major impact in how people vote in Nov 2) At least one national level Democrat has to be charged with something that will stick 3) At least one funder/leader of one of the larger NGOs has to be charged with something that will stick 4) RFK needs to get a criminal or civil complaint around the clot shot crap to hit someone at Pfizer, Moderna, or Fauci's minions Posted by: 18-1 at January 20, 2026 04:22 PM (sKqQm) 161

Killing the Mullahs would be nice but not necessary. Degrading command and control of the IRGC and the army would be relatively easy from the air. Hunting the IRGC wherever they are would also be doable because we would have total control of the air.
Air power is far different than it was in Iraq. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at January 20, 2026 04:16 PM (n9ltV) I wish that were true, I do. Its not so much that Islam creates that situation - that is the natural situation. Yes, Islam exacerbates it but the more interesting part is that Christianity (and Judaism) provide an alternative without an authoritarian government This is something of minor complaint I suppose - functionally if Iran converted to Christianity in mass it would almost certainly liberate as well...but if the Eu-nicks got their wish in Iran and somewhat secularized it you would just see a different authoritarian regime - similiar to Hussien's in Iraq. So, those states are going to see near 2024 levels that prevents surprising upsets. Collins is going to win ME easily. Whomever wins the TX GOP primary is going to win the race by about 10 points. NC probably trends towards the GOP now because the PVI trend in the state has gone so Republican over the last decade. Just ask Hogan in MD how being a "popular" former governor of a state with a different PVI than you loves you for a federal race. GA could go GOP depending on how much Atlanta keeps shrinking relative to the rest of the state, but I'm not sure I'd put money on that. In terms of the House...gerrymandering from 20 is so baked in that a wave election is like 20 seats, and the generic ballot right now is nothing like 2018. Calling Tucker pro-Iran or “pro-nukes” is lazy smears. He’s against sending U.S. boots to die for a regime that hates us while we foot the bill. Not sure about Iran.
Again, Trump and the team arranged to go after drug boats in the Caribbean. They went through a whole elaborate farce, for three months. Meanwhile they constructed a replica of Maderno's palace and trained relentlessly. When they were ready, after denying they were ever going to invade, they swooped in and took Madurno. If you look at the last year, there has been a systemic dismantling of the threat Iran poses. Their nuclear capability and most of their missiles are gone. Houthis Hezbollah and Hamas are on the ropes. I don't *think* Trump is going to let this chance go to waste. There is also China, who desperately needs Iranian oils, and is one of the only buyers. Trump also badly embarrassed them in Venezuela. Maybe they are trying to wave him off. I just don't know - Trump has shown that long term strategic planning, including multiple fake-outs, is part of his repertoire. I think part of the problem in Iran is there is no national organized resistance within the country with leaders able to take control should the mullahs flee. About 70% of the Iranians, they say, are secular, and some are actual Zoroastrians. Christianity is growing apace. I must admit that having Tucker Carlson anywhere near the White House is deeply dispiriting.
I have also noticed that nobody mentions his audience numbers any longer. Could it be that every sane person has abandoned him? Posted by: Decaf at January 20, 2026 04:50 PM (Z8jzG) 310

LOL, the UK government funded and created a video game called Pathways that was propaganda to teach kids about extremism. Amelia is one of the extremists who is anti-immigration.
Here's a short video on the topic: https://youtu.be/K6da1rF6zcU Trolls have taken the character and made her a hero, producing videos like this one: http://tiny.cc/lwwx001 It's an AI produced video that inserts Amelia into beloved UK intellectual properties like Harry Potter, Wallace and Gromit, and Paddington Bear. It's very well done. Posted by: bonhomme at January 20, 2026 04:50 PM (Yp6az) 315

I've been saying since Trump started insinuating himself in this that he shouldn't have done it.
Just standing back, and perhaps lending some covert assistance to the protesters had no downside. If the protests succeed, the mullahs fall, great. Everybody's better off. If they fail, WGAF? The status quo of an Iran without nukes persists, with an even further weakened regime. Now, we have no good options. Trump can intervene militarily as he promised, and piss off a ton of his voters, and initiate a lengthy, ugly power struggle for control of west/central Asia - one that we will probably lose under some future President. That sucks, but the VERY WORST option - the one we're talking about here - is a negotiation that ends up preserving the regime. It would be an open betrayal of the insurgents he told to flood the streets. The reprisals will be far worse than if he'd said nothing. And the world will look on and see a paper tiger. Trump's leverage over the world's leaders he loves to challenge will be greatly reduced. Anyone advising that needs to be fitted for a dunce cap. I just don't know - Trump has shown that long term strategic planning, including multiple fake-outs, is part of his repertoire.
Posted by: El Mariachi - Attorney at Law at January 20, 2026 04:40 PM (tV890) --- Trump is stalling for time. He's playing a delaying game so that Iran stops shooting while he gets more forces in theater. It's kind of obvious, and he's only run this play many, many times. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Honestly Trump 2.0 is a fucking triumph so far.
The article list some accomplishments, yet there are hundreds of things that don't even make the top 10 list that are just staggering: Cutting green new deal BS Dropping taxes. Reduced trade deficit. Reduced budget deficit Changing the narrative on the Mideast. 5% growth!!! Cutting useless agencies Pulling out of useless international agreements. Reducing drug costs.
