Greenland, NATO, The EU...The Clownshow Continues
Whether Greenland is a vitally important strategic island that absolutely requires American possession is a question for the ages, but it is a militarily-important bulwark in the North Atlantic. It is an excellent point from which to defend the Atlantic from the Arctic Ocean and the Barents Sea. Does it have enough rare earth elements and other resources to make it even more important? Yeah...probably not. We have plenty of that sort of stuff in America, it's just that we have an insane regulatory state that makes using our own resources a massive undertaking.
Because it is a territory of Denmark, the few people who live there are treated as vassals, when they are treated at all. That is entirely unsurprising, because the track record of European colonialism is mixed at best. Greenlanders Blast Danish Rule: 'They Stole Our Future'This shouldn't be taken as a sign that Greenland natives are anxious to come over to the United States. Denmark is trying to make amends to the natives who were thusly mistreated, to the tune of roughly $46,000 each in reparations. That's just; unlike the calls for reparations in the United States, these payments are being made to the living people who suffered under an unjust policy, which is quite a different kettle of fish. Many Greenland natives would rather the island be an independent nation. But that's not a tenable solution, especially in today's tense geopolitical atmosphere, where the Arctic is increasingly a vital strategic area, with all the major nations - the United States, Russia, and China in particular - looking to that region's resources. Greenland has to be under someone's defensive envelope, and even as a Danish possession, they fall under the protection of NATO, as it would as a possession of the United States.
President's Trump's saber rattling with respect to "taking Greenland" is entirely unnecessary, and could have been neatly avoided by playing up the miserable living conditions of the people of Greenland, and the equally miserable way they have been treated by the Danes. America could have been their knight in shining armor, bringing equality and prosperity to their shores. Making some offer to purchase or in some other way take possession of Greenland as a reasonable transaction between allies would have disarmed the reflexive nationalism that is bubbling up in Denmark and Greenland. Is the President's threat of military action a serious one? I doubt it. It is more of his unpredictability, which serves him quite well in many ways. But with Greenland I think it is bolstering the enemies of America. On the other side of the equation, the idea that the EU will rush in with military force to protect Greenland is clownish in the extreme. Force projection is a joke in the EU. They can barely keep their few planes flying, much less maintain any sort of heavy lift capability. In fact, in a recent military exercise, Germany sent 13 soldiers to Greenland, and they had to use a Polish airline to get them there. And less than two days later they were ordered out, presumably because of President Trump's comments. And the ridiculousness doesn't end there. Threats to throw America out of Europe if we take Greenland? Sure...that would mean an almost instant Russian victory in Ukraine, the loss of many billions of dollars of American spending in Europe, and the very real threat of an expansionist Russia, because there is simply no real military on the continent. So...everyone calm down. Greeenlanders? Take nice big checks written by America, and maybe some good high-paying jobs in our expanding military infrastructure and mining efforts. Denmark? Smile, cash the check, and relax now that you don't have to deal with Greenland. And the EU? Just sit down and shut up. Nobody cares what you think.

I go back and forth. On the one hand I think Greenland could have been put under US control with much less confrontational methods. I see this as a big distraction from real problems, which are many.
On the other hand, it’s an effective way to grab the EU by the back of their head and rub their noses in the poo on the carpet, just to show them that from now on they’re going to do what they’re told and LIKE IT.
And if this instead leads to a final blow up of NATO, well that’s far more their loss than ours.

Sure...that would mean an almost instant Russian victory in Ukraine, the loss of many billions of dollars of American spending in Europe, and the very real threat of an expansionist Russia, because there is simply no real military on the continent.
What exactly is the threat of an expansionist Russia? Modern day Russia is not the Soviet Union, correct? Is Russia an enemy of western civilization like most of Europe is right now under Islamist rule? Am I wrong to assume that Russia would be an ally in a fight for western civilization against Islam?

My sentiments as well when reading that. LA Dodgers signing Tucker just makes the vast majority of MLB fans hate the Dodgers more and hate what MLB has become. And driving more people away from MLB, because it's obvious their teams have no shot in a ridiculously unfair league.
This all started with TEX Rangers and the A-Rod contract decades ago and things have just gotten worse and worse and worse ever since. And even with the ridiculous amounts of money these players make, they STILL whine they are not making enough. It's laughable. All of professional sports is a joke now. An Uber rich club for the uber rich, completely disconnected from reality of 99.9% of normal people.

I go back and forth. On the one hand I think Greenland could have been put under US control with much less confrontational methods. I see this as a big distraction from real problems, which are many.
On the other hand, it’s an effective way to grab the EU by the back of their head and rub their noses in the poo on the carpet, just to show them that from now on they’re going to do what they’re told and LIKE IT.
And if this instead leads to a final blow up of NATO, well that’s far more their loss than ours.

Greenland would allow the USA to move into European spaces without requiring incredibly expensive bases in Europe. Europe is enraged that the USA might do so, because its a huge part of their economy and allows them to not pay for much of a defense budget.

Listening to the crazy-eyed NBC bint grilling Bessent I realized how our mainstream is completely stuck in the moment (beyond being stuck in "Get Trump!" mode), without any sense of past or future.
When Bessent points out how Trump is thinking ahead re: Greenland and trying to avert a future crisis, she has no idea what he's talking about. Just as she has no handle on the history of it all. You could say she's just ignorant, which would probably be right, but there's more to it.

I live with my sister. Shes been a RINO for a long time (loved McCain), but her TDS is truly off the charts. Today we had a huge blow up and when I tried to apologize for losing my temper, I thought she was going to hit me. I apparently have no empathy amd am brainwashed by Fox. Yes, it's all ridiculous, but it still hurts because I love her. She is having a masectomy next month, I have my own health problems and we need to support each other. I have told her time and again that I will not talk politics with her because she doesn't talk, she yells and insults and I end up getting sucked in. Same is true of the rest of my family.

So I’m minding my own business looking at the latest polls section of RCP a couple days ago and what do I see? According to polls in Texas, Talarico has a pretty clear lead over Crockett… on the GOP side Cornyn and Paxton are essentially tied… but the biggest surprise: Paxton is tied or even slightly behind both Dems.
This is a clear example of lying pollsters…. I’d be willing to bet a fair sum right now that Paxton is easily the GOP nominee and beats whatever Dem by at least 7 points… IOW it won’t be close. But the pollsters sure do portray another reality….

imo, Minneapolis has become somali central, but, that doesn't include all the rural areas which have attempted to use their voices/votes to stand for conservative values.
It's very dispiriting to read that so many here would gladly give up an entire state for the sake of one city.

With respect to Minnesota, I am 100% in favor of deporting every last Somali, illegal or legal, who has been involved in corruption and fraud. If that's all of them, then deport them all. I am also in favor of revoking Ilhan's citizenship, kicking her out of elected office and deporting her back to Somalia.
Those actions, combined with shutting down every single last fraudulent "business" these Somalis and their partners in Minnesota government had going, would go a long way to turning Minnesota back to normal.

Greenland is far more important to US defenses than Euroland anymore. The new model of warfare are missiles and drones, not armored warfare on the European plains. We need Greenland as the polar route is the route of a lot of ICBM missiles to the US and thus Greenland is key for the new Golden Dome defenses from rancid countries like China and perhaps, not likely Russia.

I live with my sister. Shes been a RINO for a long time (loved McCain), but her TDS is truly off the charts. Today we had a huge blow up and when I tried to apologize for losing my temper, I thought she was going to hit me. I apparently have no empathy amd am brainwashed by Fox. My FWP is that Mrs. Wrecks is mad at me. Again. I texted her and my two daughters the blue jacketed f*ckeroffer video because I thought it was funnier than anything Jimmy Kimmel ever did. Mrs. Wrecks bawled me out for texting my daughters that kind of language. They're both in their 30s and one is a big Landman fan so I know they've never heard such language.
