Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | For Some Reason AP and ABC "News" Cannot Even Guess At, Overdose Deaths In the US Plummeted in 2025I wonder what could have caused this. US overdose deaths fell through most of 2025, federal data reveals U.S. overdose deaths fell through the most of last year, suggesting a lasting improvement in an epidemic that had been worsening for decades NEW YORK -- U.S. overdose deaths fell through most of last year, suggesting a lasting improvement in an epidemic that had been worsening for decades. Federal data released Wednesday showed that overdose deaths have been falling for more than two years -- the longest drop in decades -- but also that the decline was slowing. And the monthly death toll is still not back to what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, let alone where it was before the current overdose epidemic struck decades ago, said Brandon Marshall, a Brown University researcher who studies overdose trends. "Overall I think this continues to be encouraging, especially since we're seeing declines almost across the nation," he said. Overdose deaths began steadily climbing in the 1990s with overdoses involving opioid painkillers, followed by waves of deaths from heroin and -- more recently -- illicit fentanyl. Deaths peaked nearly 110,000 in 2022, fell a little in 2023 and then plummeted 27% in 2024, to around 80,000. That was the largest one-year decline ever recorded.Apparently it's just impossible that stopping fentanyl imports and deporting Tren de Aragua drug-dealers contributed to the decline. It's not even worth a mention. By the way, note that overdoses shot up during Fauci's (and Tucker Carlson's) shutdowns. More deaths that can be laid at their feet. Oh, so it is possible that US government action is responsible for part of the decline -- but only those steps taken by Biden. Another mystery: Why did US serious crime rates fallen by unprecedented levels in 2025? Must be something Biden did. The U.S. is on pace for the largest one-year drop in murders the nation has ever recorded, according to an analysis by crime stats expert Jeff Asher. The big picture: The decline in killings is part of a broader decrease in violent crime following the COVID-era spike. Mass killings in the U.S. also fell in 2025, reaching their lowest level since 2006. The Real-Time Crime Index, which compiles data from 570 law enforcement agencies, shows a nearly a 20% decline in murders this year compared with the same period in 2024.LOL, sure. Definitely cite the fake FBI crime figures -- which do not include most blue cities crimes, because they refuse to report them. And we know blue cities routinely cook their crime figures. Also note the deceptiveness of this statement. Crime didn't just decline in 2025 -- it plunged by 20%. So the fact that it's been (allegedly) merely "declining" for a few years does nothing to explain the huge fall we saw in one year, when Trump took office again. But Experts!

Two other theories recently joined the list....
In a paper published last week in the journal Science, University of Maryland researchers point to the drug supply. They say regulatory changes in China a few years ago appear to have diminished the availability of precursor chemicals used to make fentanyl. That is actually plausible as a contributing factor. Personally, I think it's similar to what happened with crack. The younger brothers and sisters of all those people who OD'd decided that this was a lifestyle they didn't want. State of play: President Trump has prioritized cracking down on violent crime in his second term, though there is no clear evidence linking his policies to the decline.
The FNM kept telling me, even in 2024, that Bidenflation was Trump's fault "with no clear evidence" Of course they also claimed there was no Bidenflation at the same time Posted by: 18-1 at January 16, 2026 01:35 PM (sKqQm) Posted by: Quarter Twenty at January 16, 2026 01:35 PM (2Ez/1) 21

Clearly the crackdown on illegal drugs and gangs has had an effect on declining overdoses. Duh. I will add another reason: it's now much harder to get prescription opioids than it was only a few years ago. Doctors used to give them out like candy, whether you needed them or not.
I think a lot of the overdoses started with normal people getting hooked on prescription opioids, thinking "my doctor keeps prescribing these for me, they must be OK." But they are highly addicting, and once you're on them it takes yuge will to get off. Posted by: Judge Elric The Blade at January 16, 2026 01:36 PM (iFTx/) 29

It's like that famous headline from the NYT in the 80's:
"Crime Rates Fall Despite Increase in Prison Population" It was something like that, bafflement how locking up criminals could reduce crime. But, it's faked confusion--they know damned good and well. What they're doing is massaging the soft brains of their readers with "known facts" that criminals don't cause crime. That imprisonment is merely a manifestation of racism. You got to love the proverbial “researchers”, as if that denotes some type of rigid, agreed-to, professional, unquestionable authority. lol. I guess drug dealers are outside of their research parameters. Here’s a simple equation, when less product is available, fewer people overdose. I know that a simple thesis, but it’s one people on the front lines learned along time ago. By the way, availability of drugs is also a factor in addiction treatment. When people with an addiction don’t have the drugs they think the need, they either get dead or they get help. Jackasses. But in the end, it’s Jesus. @MeghanEMurphy I have determined that middle-upper class progressive millennial women are the worst of all demographics. The combination of complete obsession with their own thoughts, trauma, mental illnesses, and very special uniqueness and a view of the world that centers on privilege/oppression has made them not only unable to deal with their own life problems effectively (I recommend stoicism and lifting weights) but also unable to see the world outside their own ideological/hyper-therapized framework. They seem to think therapy language will resolve their own problems/relationship problems and ideological/political language will resolve the world's problems. It's weird. Probably uncoincidentally these are also the women who are all on anti-depressants, benzos for sleep, and anti-anxiety pills. And in therapy for life. The 'my emotions are so very unique and special and need special pills and therapy to fix but actually none of it is fixable' thing combined with the 'I'm so empathetic and care so much about the oppressed of the world and oh gosh it's so upsetting how can anyone not be as empathetic and understanding as me' is probably the most annoying . . . Terrified Dutch students made to live side-by-side with 125 refugees to aid their 'integration' were subjected to years of sexual assault and violence, an investigation has reported.
Stek Oost, located in the Watergraafsmeer district of Amsterdam, was sold to the Netherlands as the dream solution to the housing and refugee crisis. A total of 125 students and 125 refugees would live alongside each other, and were even encouraged to 'buddy up' so the migrants would adapt to life in the Netherlands more quickly. The primary reason that Fentanyl took a dive in availability stems back to Trump's first term. The STOP Act of 2018 made it much more difficult for the Chinese to get Fentanyl into the US for cutting and distribution. This might surprise you, but the primary way it was done before 2018 was through the postal system, and express package companies. The STOP Act made that much more difficult. Before that, the Chinese would have derelict labs on the Mainland (indirectly financed by the CCP) create hybrids of the original Fentanyl formula and name it something else not on the restricting transit list. When that new hybrid because illegal, they'd repeat the process. Most of what they mailed (using false return addresses) was advertised on the dark web, and sent to Mexico and Canada, but a lot was sent to the US as well.

Good, 37, suffered two gunshot wounds to the right side of her chest, one to her left forearm and one “with protruding tissue on the left side of the patient’s head,” according to the report by the Minneapolis Fire Department. Blood was also flowing from her left ear, the report said.
Initial reports indicated Good had been shot three times during the Jan. 7 incident. Posted by: SMOD Sounds like she was already dead from the first shot through the windshield, that would have been the headshot. Protruding brain tissue, almost no chance for survival. A headshot with enough energy literally can cause an explosive effect on brain tissue from hydrostatics. When a shot is noted on a forearm, that could be associated with the bullets in the side as well. ICE is certainly using barrier penetrative rounds like the Hornady Critical Duty so that desired penetration in glass, steel, and bodies obtains. There are some others out there but I personally prefer more expansion as I am NOT going to be shooting through barriers, walls, etc. as a citizen. The 147 gr. 9mm have made a comeback as the bullet designs are far better at expanding nowadays except in micro compacts. Ironically perform somewhat better than the old FBI load in revolvers using a 158 +p lead SWC hollowpoint. 40 S&W and 45 ACP are still damn good rounds that both penetrate and expand a bit better in but require better recoil management or a heavier firearm. Other people have conjectured this means that during their "training" in ICE-Watch, Good and this other woman were told that ICE only had rubber bullets. Sounds reasonable to me. That shot in the windshield punched right through. Frangible pistol projectiles often break up when hitting laminated windshields.
Posted by: Retired Buckeye Cop ===== Critical Duty is bonded bullet with a polymer expander ball. Designed for deep penetration of car bodies and windshields in particular. Posted by: whig at January 16, 2026 02:36 PM (WDjG6) Thanks for the update. I've been out of the profession for almost 20 years. I carried the .45 ACP, myself. I know for a fact that that cartridge will take the fight of a bad guy, even with a less-than-lethal hit to the torso. Posted by: Ian S. at January 16, 2026 02:44 PM (2ocoG) I personally think she intentionally drove her car to strike the ICE officer. However, her intent was irrelevant. Lethal force is justifiable if the officer fears death or serious physical harm. A motor vehicle is considered to be a lethal weapon.
