She had previously dedicated the Prize to Trump when she was awarded it.Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado told reporters on Thursday that she had presented her Nobel Peace Prize to President Donald Trump when the pair met at the White House. Machado dedicated the prize to Trump when she first received it. The U.S. president has long lobbied for the award and has received multiple nominations for his role in ending myriad global conflicts. "I presented the president of the United States the medal, the Nobel Peace Prize," she told reporters. She further recounted a historical episode in which Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette presented Simon Bolivar with a medal bearing the face of Washington. Similarly, Crown Prince Pahlavi is saying he anticipated that Trump will "keep his promise," that promise being that America would come to the aid of American protesters. He reminds Trump of that promise multiple times in this press conference:

The policy we are following in Venezuela may be hard to swallow, but it's necessary. It's the answer to the question, how do we enforce control over Venezuela without putting 100,000 troops in Caracas? The only way is to use the existing power structure, and to convince them that cooperation with us is a far better path for them, personally, than continued defiance.
A time will come when elections are possible, and they will have to be monitored. But that time is not now. Machado would be killed quickly if she tried to go back now, and then where would we be? Posted by: Tom Servo at January 16, 2026 12:31 PM (uWKK8) 19

Punitive expeditions require a cold hard heart and that the perfect is the enemy of the good enough. In Iraq, it would have been decapitating the Hussein regime while leaving the Iraqi military to run it. In Afghanistan, blow the place up, let the Northern Alliance run the place including letting the Pushtun areas be autonomous and leave. Punitive raids for the US go way back to the Barbary Pirates where the US Marines went to Tripoli and kicked pirate ass after they seized one of our frigates. We did not stay there obviously. However: Academics, news outlets and the opposition provided strong evidence showing that González won the election by a wide margin with the opposition releasing copies of official tally sheets collected by poll watchers from a majority of polling centers showing a landslide victory for González. The National Electoral Council (CNE) announced falsified results Posted by: Sharon(willow's apprentice) at January 16, 2026 12:39 PM (t/2Uw) 74

The EU/NATO thing where they sent 34 people to defend Greenland against Trump is hilarious though. 34 people can't even defend something from Jason Statham, never mind if Trump sent any serious military that way.

Just looks like Iraq 2.0 Posted by: Leupold at January 16, 2026 12:32 PM (eIzlH) The reason for supporting, as much as we can, the overthrow of the Mullah's is that such a thing will truly change the world far more than even the collapse of the USSR in 1991 did. It'd take a page to explain all the things that will come crashing down with them. (Start with Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi, all cut loose with no support once the Mullahs are gone) BUT because of recent US successes, too many people believe that it's possible to do this in a single strike, a single night. It isn't. It can be done, but I do not believe they're going to let go easily. Posted by: Tom Servo at January 16, 2026 12:40 PM (uWKK8) 79

In Winston Wolfe's immortal, and oft-quoted-here-at-the-AoSHQ phrase, WLNSSEODQY.
The organizers of the prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute, had already said that the prize “cannot be revoked, shared or transferred”. Kirsti Bergstø, the leader of Norway’s Socialist Left party and its foreign policy spokesperson, said: “This is, above all, absurd. The peace prize cannot be given away.” Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, the leader of the Centre party, said: “Whoever has received the prize has received the prize. The fact that Trump accepted the medal says something about him as a type of person: a classic showoff who wants to adorn himself with other people’s honors and work." Raymond Johansen, the Labour former governing mayor of Oslo who is now secretary general of Norwegian People’s Aid, said “This is unbelievably embarrassing and damaging to one of the world’s most recognized and important prizes. The awarding of the prize is now so politicized and potentially dangerous that it could easily legitimize an anti-peace prize development. I can’t believe she actually gave the prize to Trump. That's true with some religious leaders like the pope, who don't actually believe or care about their religion, but Khamenei has to at least pretend, because many of his supporters are zealots. Posted by: Judge Elric The Blade at January 16, 2026 12:57 PM (iFTx/) I think one thing we forget in the west is that in a radical Islamist country like Iran, there is *no* separation of Church and State. The Church IS the State, and the State IS the Church. Go back and look at how many Cathedrals were destroyed and ransacked during the Reformation and later, the English Civil Wars. Iran is now beginning to go through the same thing. It's very violent, very destructive, and unstoppable once it gets going. You can argue our immigration policy should be to only take women of child bearing years and require them to marry an American man within a certain amount of time.
But then we'd get endless Handmaid's Tale spin offs I suppose Posted by: 18-1 at January 16, 2026 01:21 PM (sKqQm) I am positive this will result in a shizzle ton of marriages based in love and respect, obviously rooted in biblical principles. It will absolutely not be a goldmine for divorce lawyers. 😂 Posted by: Piper at January 16, 2026 01:28 PM (OoFl2) 367

I just love this police chief's reaction to Frey's lunacy. (0:34)
https://is.gd/hBNK5R Posted by: Archimedes at January 16, 2026 01:18 PM (Riz8t) I saw that last night. I told Mrs. Cop at the time that the Minneapolis Police Chief looked pretty subdued. He knows that "fighting ICE" is a really bad idea. He should have interrupted the Mayor and just said that his police officers were not going to "fight ICE" as long as he's Chief. But he didn't, so he values his job more than his reputation. Walz and Frey are stirring-up their flying monkeys because they both a deep trouble over the billions of dollars stolen by the Somalis. This would be what, Newscum's fifth failed attempt at eradicating homelessness?
I just don't get it. We keep giving away huge amounts of money with no metrics or deadlines, and the problem just keeps getting worse. Posted by: Gavin Newsome at January 16, 2026 01:29 PM (Riz8t) 372

Once Barky Obungo "won" the award I figured it was a woke popularity award.
Which always surprises me that Trump wants it so badly. He deserves it, yes, but it seems to be less worthy of an award than in the distant past. This lady should be the President of Venezuela, not that I know squat. But a very nice thing for her to do. She has to be better than Maduro's VP.
