As SCOTUS Debates "Trans Women" Competing in Girls Sports, the World's 671st Ranked Male Tennis Player Easily Beats the Woman Ranked #1; also, Remembering Scott Adams and Dilbert

Supreme Court Building.JPG

The Supreme Court heard arguments earlier this week on whether individual states are allowed to ban “transgender women” (e.g. males) from competing in girls’ sports at the high school and college level. It’s a triumph for the woke assault on civilized norms that the Supreme Court justices even took this case.

The good news is that the prevailing sentiment of court watchers is that the court will rule in favor of the states which ban biological males from competing in women’s sports. But it is also concerning if this NBC report is true, “There was wide agreement on the bench that, at least in the cases before them, the scientific consensus on to what extent transgender girls and women have a competitive advantage is not clear.

Yikes. I hope that statement is just wishcasting on the part of a left-wing journalist. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson famously admitted during her confirmation hearing in 2022 that she is scientifically illiterate not a biologist and is unaware of any differences between men and women. But I certainly hope that there is not “wide agreement” among the other eight justices that men do not have a proven competitive advantage over women.

Meanwhile, a tennis “battle of the sexes” just took place a couple weeks ago, matching Nick Kyrgios against Aryna Sabalenka. Mr. Kyrgios is ranked 671st among male professional tennis players. He has played just six tour-level matches in the past three years. Ms. Sabalenka has won four women’s grand slam tournaments, and is currently ranked #1 in the world among professional female tennis players.

Because the tennis world understands that women and men are not equal, Ms. Sabalenka’s side of the court was 9% smaller, meaning that she had less ground to cover compared to Kyrgios, and that he had a smaller in-bounds area in which he could place his shots than she did.

Mr. Kyrgios won easily in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

This is also an appropriate moment to remember that back in 2017 a soccer team of under-15 year old boys whipped the US Women’s National Soccer Team.

“FC Dallas under-15 boys squad beat the U.S. Women's National Team in a scrimmage” [CBS – 04/04/2017]

In preparation for two upcoming friendlies against Russia, the U.S. women’s national team played the FC Dallas U-15 boys academy team on Sunday and fell 5-2, according to FC Dallas’ official website.

Circling back to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Ace documented this amazing question of hers from the bench this week, "Is treating someone transgender, but does not have, because of the medical interventions and the things that have been done, who does not have, uh, the same, uh, threat to physical competition and safety and all the reasons the state puts forward - that's actually a different class, says this individual. So you're not treating the class the same. And how do you respond to that?"

Yes, how do you respond to that? KBJ is an orator for the ages. We may have to start referring to her as Ketanji Wendell Holmes.

GM Pivoting its Focus from One Tesla Niche to Another Tesla Niche

My latest piece at The American Spectator, “EVs and Autonomous Vehicles: General Motors’ Doomed Focus on Unprofitable Boutique Products” has been published.

General Motors’ heir-apparent to the CEO office was hired just eight months ago from an autonomous vehicle start-up company that has lost billions of dollars and has less than 10 vehicles on the road.

Since Mr. Anderson’s hiring, several prominent executives have departed [General Motors], presumably because they don’t share his vision for prioritizing self-driving cars. As reported by CNBC a few weeks ago, Mr. Anderson “has consolidated power to oversee ‘the end-to-end product lifecycle’ of GM vehicles, including manufacturing, engineering, battery, software and services product management, and engineering teams, according to GM.”

Despite the massive EV losses that GM has incurred, the company is apparently casting its lot with a tech executive whose profit-and-loss experience is with cash burn rather than cash flow.

This piece is not behind a paywall. I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.

Remembering Scott Adams

Scott Adams’ death is being eloquently covered by others, so there is not much I can add. But I do want to offer up a few quick thoughts. Aside from Dilbert being my favorite cartoon for decades, I was a loyal reader of Mr. Adams’ blog for many years before his greater celebrity during the Trump era. Mr. Adams often expanded my views, and occasionally frustrated me, but he helped me understand how rational people can understand things differently.

Back in 2016, when I doubted that Donald Trump was in any way conservative, and when I thought Trump had no chance to beat Hillary in the presidential election, Scott Adams was one of two writers who made an impact on my attitude toward that election. Mr. Adams famously wrote about the reasons why Trump was likely to win. He was right. (The other writer was John Hinderaker of Powerline, who was the first legacy conservative I read who stated that of course we traditional Republicans needed to vote for Trump.)

I was flattered once when Scott put out a call for Dilbert topics and he ended up using one of my submissions. As I recall, his invitation to the public was something to the effect of ”You provide the workplace situation and I’ll provide the humor.” I wrote him and offered up what a special hell it was to be working for a company campaigning for recognition in a local “Best Places to Work” contest. Shortly thereafter he used that in a cartoon.

Finally, my favorite Dilbert character was one who got very little screen time. Scott Adams may be gone, but Mordac, The Preventer of Information Services lives on.

I think of Mordac every time I have a spontaneously obsolete password, or I’m blocked from being able to access a system necessary for my job, or I can’t access an SaaS app because there are too few licenses, or I’m logged out of a system because I got called away for a short meeting, etc. In all these circumstances, I give a tip of the hat to Mordac, and I applaud his success in protecting my employer by preventing me from doing my job.

It isn't. What do you think "scientific consensus" means? It means "narrative-confirming."

"Scientific consensus" is not a thing. The scientific method is based on disproof. When "scientists" are all in agreement on something, it is an indicator of failure.

The "scientific consensus" told us that factories warm the planet. It wold us that COVID came from bats. It told us that boys can be girls. It told us the earth was the center of the universe. It told us lots of shit that is obviously untrue, and it kept telling us those same things for long, long after it became obvious.

25 The rules for the Kyrgios-Sabalenka match were even more rigged than is described in this post.

In addition to the smaller court on Sabalenka's side, the rules stipulated only one serve per point. In order words, the players didn't get the normal two serves to get a ball in play, but only one.

While that may appear not to favor either side, in reality it was designed to (and did) substantially limit the power of Kyrgios' serve. If he had two serves, the first would have been at full power -- far harder than any woman on the planet can serve -- and Sabalenka would have almost no chance to return it. But because he only had one, he had to basically just lob it over as if it was his normal second serve.

Also: Kyrgios was injured and not at 100%.

Self-driving cars - if they can be safely and reliably made at all - are a serious long-haul investment. The problem is already 85% solved. That last 15%, though, is *heavy* - like Everest on top of a mouse heavy. If GM is going down that road, it's betting the entire business on it - right after they bet the business on EVs. Dangerous.

34 I'm a rugby fanatic and hate what's going on with colleges.

Title IX has been construed to require equal numbers of men and women in varsity sports. But not all varsity sports are equal.

Colleges often use football for brand identity to attract students and to get money from alumni. Think Notre Dame. Women's field hockey doesn't quite do this.

This throws off the M/W ratio and the budget. So you see women getting recruited for crew who've never rowed.

Making Women's Rugby a varsity sport while keeping Men's a club is what many colleges do. It comes down to whether the Men's club can get good coaching or not. And travel money for national playoffs. Many good teams get shut out for not having the money.

But let's pretend that women are equal in all things.

Posted by: Ignoramus at January 16, 2026 11:14 AM (dtajH)

35 The entire point of sports is that it is actually a competition. If there is a blowout one way or another, it gets pretty boring. Because a blow out means there is no competition going on here. The teams are not equal.

He's very well known in the tennis world.
He's coming off injuries.

Kyrgios currently ranks 671 and has been ranked as high as world No. 13 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), achieved on 24 October 2016. He has won seven ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2019 and 2022 Washington Open, and reached eleven finals, most notably a major final at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

In doubles, Kyrgios has a career-high ranking of world No. 11, achieved on 7 November 2022, winning a major doubles title at the 2022 Australian Open while partnering with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

43 I honestly don't know how these trannie legal decisions take longer than maybe 10 minutes.

They are basically two question cases:

Question 1: Do XX chromosomes make for a biological girl/woman and do an XY chromosome make for a biological boy/man?

Question 29 and related stuff): Should we be required by law to treat insane people in compliance with their insanity?

In other words, should we treat a man claiming to be Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson? Should we give him your seat on the Supreme Court and allow him to make legally binding decisions? If not, why not?

Or suppose a woman claims that she is a goat. Should we treat her as a goat in a legally binding manner and feed her hay and leave her outside to wander in the fields. If not, why not?

That this trannie silliness is even being discussed beyond confinement in a mental institution proves that Yes! The law is an ass.

We did full-contact tournaments. Master would have me spar with Soo-mi to help prepare her for her matches. The idea was for her to train against someone much bigger and stronger than she would face in the tournament.

Suffice to say that as good as she was, I could have literally killed her in the ring if I wanted to. She was very quick and landed some kicks to my face. They stung but didn't do any damage. By contrast, if I ever kicked her in the face with full power, she'd be KOed instantly. If not her neck broken. She could beat almost any female opponent, and she did. But she had 0% chance against a bigger, stronger man.

And yes: Soo-mi was a smokeshow. And yes, we dated for a while. "She was my first Asian."

Too many factors fighting against it.

IT is seen as a cost, so measures are taken to lower the cost. Either getting rid of your veterans (who fought the IT wars, and know not only how it works, but WHY it works) for interns and foreign labor, or into the magic clouds. Former do not have the experience and knowledge, just a script. The latter have the same issues, except now you pray it doesn't storm because there's absolutely nothing you can do when it does.

The "Tower of Babel" situation. Even if two computer environments speak the same language, devs on either side mess it up by not understanding specifications... or not caring. So one or the other has to patch for the bad case, then patch for another bad case, until it's a tumor made up of band-aids. For an example - read about all the Windows hacks to keep apps running. Ye olde "SimCity", for instance, "freed memory"... then kept using it afterwards. So, a hack to let that game keep running, built right into Windows.

About 35 years ago, my late uncle, who did a lot of tool making business with GM (in those days), predicted they would go bankrupt some day ( remember 2009?) because of their low productivity and ridiculous benefits package they had for their hourly workers.
Well, my opinion was they also had some lousy engineers and management people. As much as people like to crack on UAW employees, they don't design the cars, the assembly lines, the engines, etc.

71 Conservatives are celebrating spending untold millions in legislation and legal fees to keep less than a hundred kids out of sports.

The outcome was never in doubt. The complete destruction of trans rights and, by extension, trans people was always part of the agenda. There’s a whole section about it written down in Project 2025.

It's not a good feeling to see your country dedicate so much effort to making your life worse because they hate you and refuse to understand you. That's even worse when a child is on the receiving end of this.

Every time there's a post about trans issues, the iMa vErY liBrAl bUUUUt people come out of the wood work. Your position fails at the most basic level: how are you going to enforce it??? The only foolproof way is genital inspections (which I bet has always been the real goal for conservatives).

The general public are a bunch of slackjawed hicks. Consider how stupid the average American is. Half of them are dumber than that. conservatives think all trans women are fat hairy guys in dresses. They think they know someone’s gender by looking at them.

74 Not to be a downer, but what makes me upset is even with a conservative leaning SC, our victories are incremental.

Like I'm sure these state laws banning men in womens sports will be upheld, so basically if you live in a really conservative, red state you're fine. But live in a purple or blue state (which is most of America) and you're still subject to this nonsense.

A liberal court would find a way to mandate their policy to all 50 states. Look at gay marriage for example.

And that is the issue for conservatives versus the overall Right or even moderates. Conservatives seek to conserve what was or try to restore the past. The filibuster is an example as is this court case example you mentioned. The status quo was that states COULD ban trans males from female sports competitions. The left, had no f*cks to give as even getting to keep their blue states turning boys and girls into eunuchs is a win for their evil med programs and drug companies promoting this shit.

So even when the conservatives 'win', as you mention Leupold, the left still can do what it wants in blue states and bide their time to demand red states kneel in the future.

The same pattern keeps getting repeated.Tactical wins for the conservatives while losing strategically.

That is why Trump who is not a conservative and not bound by the old rules has been effective, even more so after the 'conservatives' tried to knife him in the back in his first term.

Trump does not always win but he at least fights.

One of the best videos I have seen is a sequence of a dozen or so clips of cars slamming on the brakes and swerving to avoid being hit by another vehicle running a red light (the green light ahead is usually clearly visible). Every one of those instances potentially save a life, or several.

Look at the upside of having a retard on the Court trying to defend liberal dogma. The biggest problem for us with The Notorious (Justice) RBG was that she was an honestly sharp lawyer, and she could make very reasonable sounding constitutional arguments for far left dogma. Probably the last of the generation that produced the Warren Court.

Now, who do they left have to make their case? Some drooling imbecile who might as well have a bone through her nose and be chanting "oogah! oogah!" for all the sense she makes. This does NOT do the left any favors.

If you find yourself discouraged, just remember the world has always been a mess. The only peace you can find is via finding G_d and realizing this world is a fallen world. So find joy where you can, do what you can to fight the good fight against evil, and realize that despair is a sin. Make the national reserve the total possible taxing authority of a nation (this includes what currently isn't taxed) and/or a gold reserve, if you have it ... and convert it to Quatloos.

From that simple calculation, you can easily see that printing or virtually creating more dollars devalues the value of the dollar.

The answer is not going to please trad cons--it is to do what Trump is trying to do via DOE, use Title IX to prevent those schools from getting federal money. For colleges, it means no student loans and grants--lefty schools would have to eat their endowment then to do it. For K12, you have reading programs, etc.

Ironically, the libs, outraged by the Grove City case, made schools receiving any federal funds rather than specific programs comply with federal restrictions.

Bypasses the 10th because states want the money so they have to comply. Reason why a few states were flirting with dropping federal funds entirely for k12 in places like TN under the Biden regime.

203 When I was a high schooler, not so long ago, there was a big difference between the real world and high school/college. But most people understood that schools were fantasy worlds for children, because kids worked jobs in high school, so they'd already perceived the real world.

Now most kids stay in school as long as possible, and don't work til they leave, so you end up with a workforce of nearly geriatric 12-year-olds.

Nope. Under the subsequent revision of civil rights laws under Ted Kennedy after the Grove City case, if a school accepts one buck of public money, then they are bound to follow ALL requirements. Including private scholarships if the college coordinates the offering to the student.

Right now, DoE is going after a lot of these private scholarships that discriminate in such a way as to violate Title IX. And private non profits are also filing suits and winning.

Broader, he who pays dictates what the scientist will find. Expert witness testimony should clearly demonstrate that. Scientists, at the end of the day, work for the paycheck like the rest of us do unless they are independently wealthy.

So the siren call of money is always something that affects people wanting to keep their jobs.

Consensus in the scientific community is always overrated and part of what Kuhn calls normal science. Overton Windows gets at the same phenomenon. Those vested in normal science without a doubt then try to quash deviationist scientists that might disrupt existing scientific norms and theories. Often by calling those scientists rude names, attempt to censor them, etc.

Covid was a perfect example.

Book is about the same but because we are meant to identify with the hero, it has a relatively happy ending with the hero triumphing over a sordid collection of gits that benefitted from him going to prison. The movie added the hero reconciling with Mercedes and IIRC the stupid idea of the child of his mortal enemy being his.

In the book, the Count has another female slave of the Turks he rescued and reciprocates her love when the task is finished. The child of Mercedes and the faithless soldier went to join the army after disowning his inheritance and Mercedes went to a convent IIRC. Been awhile since I read the book or watched the movie.

Book of Job in the Bible is a superb example of what Judaism calls wisdom literature (also see Proverbs and Ecclesiastes). Lot of philosophical reasoning in Job about the nature of good and evil and how it affects people. Uses dialogue between characters aka friends of Job and then the appearance of teh Almighty himself in dialogue with Job. Powerful stuff.

303 Judge used extraordinarily stark language during the hearing, describing Trump as an “authoritarian” while insisting that he was choosing the term carefully, rather than simply using a “pejorative.” The judge also compared the Trump administration’s broader mass-deportation campaign to historic efforts to return formerly enslaved people to their owners under the Fugitive Slave Act, noting an infamous episode in Boston history when a U.S. marshal was killed near Young’s courthouse as he guarded a man named Anthony Burns who escaped slavery in Virginia.
