Jeanine Pirro Opens Investigation Into Fed Chair Jerome Powell's Deceptive Congressional Testimony About His Rampant Overspending

He told Congress that he was only spending billions on remodeling the Fed for strictly functional upgrades, like "waterprooofing" the building.

He denied spending billions just to make it a "Taj Mahal" of the Deep State, as Julie Kelly puts it.

The current bill is over $2.5 billion, with $700 million of that overspending not originally budgeted for.

Powell, who oversees the nation's currency, says "Whoops!"

Julie Kelly
@julie_kelly2

18h

This is how it's done:

NYT tonight confirmed DOJ investigation into Fed Reserve chairman Jerome Powell.

"The inquiry, which includes an analysis of Mr. Powell's public statements and an examination of spending records, was approved in November by Jeanine Pirro, a longtime ally of President Trump.

It is not clear whether Ms. Pirro has convened a grand jury or issued subpoenas. But prosecutors in her office have contacted Mr. Powell's staff multiple times to request documents about the renovation project, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation who discussed an open inquiry on the condition of anonymity."

The renovation project is a whopping $700 million over budget.

"A 2021 version of the Fed's proposal described private elevators and dining rooms for top policymakers, water fountains and new marble features, in addition to a rooftop terrace for staff. Pressed at a congressional hearing in June, Mr. Powell denied that many of those features were part of the latest proposal."

Good stuff. More please.

Powell is claiming this is purely political investigation because Trump opposes Powell's purely-political refusal to reduce interest rates. Note that Powell reduced interest rates for Biden months before the election, despite inflation being out-of-control at the time.

Here's my take: Trump may in fact favor an investigation for political reasons and yet the investigation may still be fully warranted by the circumstances.

What does Powell demand, that we have no investigation into misbehaving officials so long as they oppose Trump?

If there's no crime, then there's no crime -- but the federal government should be investigating fraud and, frankly, money-laundering politicians and elected officials all the time.

In fact, Pam Bondi just announced the creation of a new Deputy AG with a very specific jurisdiction: defrauding the federal government (and taxpayers).

Jerome Powell never objected to Letitia James, Merrick Garland, Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg, and Jack Smith investigating and prosecuting Trump for fake crime after fake crime just because those prosecutions and investigations were politically motivated.

I recall that Kamala was running on the top of the ticket at that time. Powell's corruption was doubly scummy. He was trying to juice Kamala's chances to win, and prime the economy for a nice bump in the coming months (that Kamala would take credit for).

Powell is scum.

Depending on how bad the building is, renovations can be more than a new build. The UN is probably in that category. There are times when it is cheaper to raze it and build new, and renovations can only be justified if it's very historically or culturally significant.

I like the idea of an independent Fed, buuuuuut-

the reality is that political hack, dildo-heads like Powell always swing the economy to whatever benefits the Democrats getting elected, hurts the Republicans, so in essence -

the Fed isn't independent. Just an arm of the Democrat Party.

So, the Head of the Fed should be able to be removed by the Prez.

I don't like that and it will be abused, but that means at least sometimes we'll get policy that benefits the nation and not just Democrat grifters.

84 I'm against this investigation, as I said earlier. It has zero upside for Trump, or America, and plenty of downside insofar as it galvanizes RINO opposition to Trump in the Senate. This was an unforced, first term-type, error.

Posted by: Huck Follywood at January 12, 2026 02:46 PM (s5hGr)

85 Depending on how bad the building is, renovations can be more than a new build. The UN is probably in that category. There are times when it is cheaper to raze it and build new, and renovations can only be justified if it's very historically or culturally significant.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 12, 2026 02:39 PM (GyQIQ)

I should have been specific. I meant you should never do renovations that are more expensive than rebuilding, not that they can't be more expensive than rebuilding.

(Note: You can't "rebuild" a history, so IF something is historic, renovations are cheaper than the non-existent rebulding option.)

There is, without a doubt, a very talented Engineer employed by the appliance manufacturer, who knows all the ins and outs of how that compressor is designed, what is weak points are, etc.

Unfortunaty, that engineer spends a majority of his/her time debugging meeting connectivity issues, since the rest of tbe staff is in India.

And yet over the years that the Fed existed versus before with all the panics, etc, inflation is worse under the Fed than before the Fed.

The Fed exist to allow banks to create fiat currency via lending and give the patina of a sound currency without anything to back it. So you get inflation over what would be in the alternative.

Regarding Sydney Sweeney...

The lovely and delightful Mrs naturalfake wanted to see "The Housemaid", so off we went to the movies.

Anyway, during the movie it became obvious that Sydney Sweeney is a little gal.

I wouldn't be surprised if she's less than 5 feet tall.

I suppose that puts her bodacious tatas in perspective a bit. However, as she displays in the movie (discreetly), she does have good genes.

That's all.

This is literally the best kitchen stove and oven I have ever had. We got it when my dad's cousin passed and his wife's family were clearing out the cousin's dad's house. My dad's uncle died in 1987 and his house was left exactly as he left it until 2017. We went in and got the kitchen stove and spent weeks getting it cleaned up and working. That's how money-printing works. The Fed doesn't just print money and drop it out of helicopters. They get new money into the system by buying assets. This is how "quantitative easing" works.

The Fed makes new money and hands it out to people in exchange for assets. Treasury securities, private bonds, mortgage bonds, etc. New money exits the Fed, an asset enters the Fed. The Fed has to buy something to get the money out into the world. It could be a mortgage bond or a used car, but it has to be *something.*

The explosive growth of the Fed's balance sheet shows the amount of money-printing it's done since the "financial crisis."

Humphrey's Executor was a knee jerk reaction by the Court to thwart FDR. Myers, merely ten or so years earlier was the true precedent, Humphreys sought to use mealy mouthed quasi judicial and quasi legislative bullshite to distinguish why the FTC appointments (Humphreys) should be treated differently than Postmasters (Myers).

Chief Justice Taft lays down the history in Myers and it is an originalist opinion better suited for Congress and Presidential relations as the Constitution itself does not make the bureaucracy a fourth branch.

Congress has power in funds and providing the law by which the President must execute its will but does not have the constitutional power to split the executive into independent bureaucrats with a president competing with Congress and the courts to run them.

There seems to be an epidemic of casting tiny women to play roles in movies and TV. Many times, you won't notice this because the men are small too. But when you see these women in scenes with normal-sized men (or women), it looks ridiculous.

236 Let me tell you about Jeanine Pirro.

Back when she had her show on Fox, she did one about the George Floyd case. She put forward her case for why the cop should be charged with Murder One.

She then proceeded to outline all the facts in the case, one after another. It's actually where I first really learned about what happened.

What I noticed was that the facts quite obviously, I thought, showed that the cop was completely innocent. Floyd was having those breathing issues the whole time, which is what happens when you overdose.

So Pirro got the message out, even though, I presume, her masters forced her to declare him guilty. Says something about Fox also, of course.

240 Is a wealth tax even constitutional?
Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh

For states, yes. They have plenipotentiary powers for day to day life for its residents. Property tax and inventory taxes are examples of wealth taxes. For the Feds, it would be an unconstitutional direct tax not covered by the income tax amendment. In theory, by apportioning it via the states, it could be done by teh feds but very difficult. See Hylton v. US (1796) for an excellent discussion of taxing powers of Congress.

Likewise in Calder v. Bull, states can pass retroactive laws but only in civil matters.

Forbidden to Congress and states to do it in criminal matters.

In Pollock case in the 1890's the federal income tax was declared unconstitutional. It had been legislated first in the ACW and then appeared off and on until then. If you read the opinions in Hylton, you get how the Constitution''s direct and indirect taxes worked and how to categorize them. Justice Paterson was at the Constitutional Convention and as a senator, wrote much of the Judiciary Act of 1789 setting up the courts. Justice Iredell attended NC ratifying convention for the constitution. Both of them explain quite lucidly how the direct tax prohibition was to work and why the tax in Hylton was viewed as an excise tax, not a direct tax.

my guess?: it's easier than figuring out how to do an old-school control system, they probably don't even teach that any more.
these days, AI can probably design the circuit board and write the code ...

308 So the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is spending likely over a billion or possibly even close to 2 billion to renovate a building.

They are taking the Salt Lake Temple, which took 40 years to build from the 1850s through the 1890s, and is the largest temple of the Church and the massive, iconic attraction for Utah, and earthquake proofing it. How? By jacking up the entire Temple (made out of granite) and replacing the foundations with some sort of earthquake dampers to help absorb potential shock. Lots of other internal upgrades as well.

That's the kind of renovation 2 billion gets you: a massive, historic landmark literally being jacked up into the air and modernized as best as possible without destroying the building.

That's NOT what Powell was doing. How can he be spending more money on a "renovation" than what the Church is doing to restore their most important building?

309 My view on circumcision is simple. It's a religious obligation for Jews, so of course they should do it - when it works, which is the vast majority of the time, it doesn't do any harm, and it has some benefits.

If you live in a filthy country without a lot of indoor plumbing, or a bad cultural problem about hygiene - do it. You don't want a stinky weiner with smegma all up in it.

But if you're a gentile in a first world country, I don't see the point. Even though the risks are very small, I don't see the benefit as good enough to justify them. Why gamble on possibly mangling your son's shlong so he can (voluntarily) skip showers for weeks at a stretch?

310 304 I will go out on a limb and say this guy is not going to jail. I am also going to say he was just signing whatever was floating across his desk and whoever stood in front of him saying we neeeeerddddd to do this, he said well, if we need to, then we do it. I am curious about project update meetings, stage gates, budget reporting. Did any of this happen?

He lied directly to Congress, specifically the US Senate in a hearing specifically about the features of the new and over budget Fed Reserve hq building. Lied about it not having a private dining room nor a new VIP elevator just for the governors etc.

311 >>>>Why doesn't Powell just retire? What is in it for him at this stage?

I think he is going to retire this summer at the end of his term.

The things he has done during his terms is end the LIBOR and start the SOFR giving the US control over the overseas price of dollars, and in keeping rates fairly high he has sucked lots of money out of the ECB and City of London, leaving them a bit stretched for ready cash.

Low fed rates mean easy money, which drives the business cycle higher for the next crash. Keeping it high bleeds off some of the overheating. It is literally restricting access to Keynes' punchbowl if you like that economics paradigm

Anyways, he is not loved overseas by European bankers. We should give him a watch on his way out for just that.

That's so awesome! HAS to be AI generated dubbing though, right?

The same could be said by the BUF coach, if they were to fire him. He brought playoff games back into the vernacular of WNY, and has the longest current streak of winning 11 games or more, but it's ALL because of Josh Allen, right? And failures of Josh and the rest of the team don't count.

(Not to throw shade on Josh Allen - he's the best QB in a generation, if not all time. But when he gets hurt, and plays hurt, he loses games. It's not because of the coaches.)

315 276 Man, those Globalists are REALLY keyed in on the foreign invasions, and REALLY, REALLY don't want the US to have Greenland. Both things must be extremely important in this World War vs Globalism that Trump is leading the charge in.
Posted by: MrExcitement at January 12, 2026 03:23 PM (hOOi9)

Greenland really is just a symbol of how Europe is no longer in the driver's seat. It is Fortress Americas going forward.

The Globalists want us tied into forever wars in the Ukraine and elsewhere at their direction. So does the EU.
Posted by: Oldcat at January 12, 2026 03:26 PM (8avO+)

Funny thing is, it's really not much different from when Alaska was bought. Nobody in Europe wet their pants about THAT. If anything, they got a good chuckle out of it.

But objectively, why should ANYBODY in Europe have a problem with the US having Greenland? Probably most of them didn't even know it was a Danish territory, before a few years ago. It certainly doesn't HURT Europe, and I can't believe most of them give a crap about Denmark in the least.

I don't know about that specifically. But yeah, circumcision is a good thing for soldiers for the obvious reason, and I can only imagine how horrible trenchdick would be.

He is claiming his demotion runs afoul of the speech and debate clause protection he has as a senator. Problem is, he did not make that video on the floor of the senate or in his office at the capitol.
