This is the first time NASA has ever had to do a medical evacuation. They've had contingency plans for it of course, but never had to use it. This is not the "emergency bugout" version of this, which they do have plans for as well. This is the slower version. The astronaut, whoever it is, is stable enough they can take the slower version. He/she needs to come home, but can wait a bit. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at January 10, 2026 04:59 AM (w6EFb) 13

The 1950s noir [i[The Big Combo with Cornel Wilde is on Movies! I watched it on YooToob during the Sniffle Scare. It's a good crime flick. There are some controversial-for-the-time scenes in it, including an implied gay relationship between two hoodlums for hire played by Lee Van Cleef and Earl Holliman. Nothing overt, but the two men live together and sleep in the same room, and in a later scene in their living room both are wearing pajamas and robes; and when one is killed, the other is badly broken up and openly weeps.
Still, they are ruthless killers, not sympathetic underdogs. Interesting stuff. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 10, 2026 05:44 AM (wzUl9) 29

Wonder who's going to want to buy those California properties and presumably face the confiscatory billionaire tax? Or maybe they're holding onto the property while not holding onto their California residency. Posted by: m at January 10, 2026 07:41 AM (SSiCQ) 108
"Bruce Springsteen's iconic hit Born in the USA 'is censored by UK radio station for controversial lyric'"
That's surprising as it is anti-American garbage. They objected to the phrase "yellow man"' though, and now Bruce should be thrown under a double decker bus. Posted by: fd at January 10, 2026 07:41 AM (vFG9F) 109

Best part for us about the proposed “Wealth Tax” - it’s aimed at the California tech billionaires who have been the financial backbone of the Dem Party for a good 20 years now. They of course are shocked and horrified that the people they tried to buy are now turning ion them, and they are abandoning the state, and abandoning the party.

David Eriksen's "LLM People" post explains a lot. It's cargo-cultism, but with words.
It explains a lot of college-"credentialed" people present at the levers of power. They weave a lot of bullshit during press conferences, but we always assumed it was like parlor tricks, showing you the one hand with the other doing the actual trick. Except, no, they're only waving the one hand around. It explains why nothing gets done with said people as well - meetings to speak, but no action and progress. So you're 10 years into a new railroad, with only one percent built. Probably during the very first year. It explains the lack of merit-based people as well - They do, not talk. Talking is an annoyance, BECAUSE there's no action. That rubs the LLC'ers the wrong way, so away they go. It explains the NPC behavior we've memed about. Their sources say something. They copy and repeat it. No cognitive dissonance, because there's no cognation. And you can't argue logically - no logic to it Perhaps it also explains the "Left Can't Meme" meme.
