Baldy2026.jpg

Mt. Baldy (Mount San Antonio) is probably 15 miles from Rancho Cucamonga, and one can see the peak from Interstate 15. It's also 10,000 feet high and will kill you without any effort at all!

Like these three knuckleheads: Bodies of three hikers recovered from Mt. Baldy amid harsh weather. Really? Harsh weather in December on a tall mountain? Who knew!

Nature never makes any blunders; when she makes a fool she means it.
-- Josh Billings

It isn't difficult to prepare oneself for most eventualities. Sure, that Chinese missile strike on Los Angeles might put you in a bit of a pickle, or the massive earthquake that shakes half the mountain down on your head will probably cut into your clubbing that night, but for most days? Appropriate footwear, appropriate clothing, water and a bit of food, and a good map in case your phone dies.

Personally, I like being armed, but in California that might get you arrested.

Oh...you might want to check the weather report too!

The current hysterical news cycle is dominated by a failing attempt to portray Renee Good as some sort of paragon of loving motherhood and sweetness and light. It is the typical trivialization of the human condition that the left is fixated by, and it is an indicator of just how evil they are. Apparently because Good had stuffed animals in her car and had children, she was incapable of trying to run down an ICE officer. Obviously that makes no sense, but is also reminds me of the socialist view of humanity, that we are all just one thing, and completely interchangeable.

Well, the Aufseherinnen (female guards) in the Nazi concentration camps mostly led normal lives before they became unspeakably evil. One thing does not prevent the other.

The world's leading expert on European wasps walks into a record shop.

He asks the assistant, “Do you have European Vespidae Acoustics Volume 2? I believe it was released this week.”

The assistant checks the computer and then says, “Certainly. Would you like to listen before you buy it?”

The expert replies, “Of course!”

The assistant hands him a pair of earphones and puts the record on a turntable near the counter, and turns it on.

The expert listens for a few moments and says to the assistant, “I'm terribly sorry, but I am the world's leading expert on European wasps and this is not accurate at all. I don't recognize any of those sounds. Are you sure this is the correct recording?”

The assistant checks the turntable. “Yes, sir,” he says. “This is the European Vespidae Acoustics Volume 2. Let me skip ahead to the second track.”

Again the expert listens for a few moments and then says to the assistant, “This just can't be right! I've been an expert in this field for 43 years and I still don't recognize any of these sounds.”

The assistant apologizes and lifts the needle to the next track. As soon as the track starts playing, the expert throws off the headphones. “This is outrageous false advertising! I am the world's leading expert on European wasps and no European wasp has ever made a sound like the ones on this record!”

The manager of the shop overhears the commotion and walks over. “What seems to be the problem, sir?”

The expert turns to him, red-faced and fuming. “This is an outrage! I am the world's leading expert on European wasps. Nobody knows more about them than I do. There is no way in hell that the sounds on that record were made by European wasps!”

The manager glances down and notices the problem instantly. “I'm terribly sorry, sir. It appears we've been playing you the bee side.”

34 Serious question. All these cities & states that claim "sanctuary cities", why are all of the elected officials not brought up on sedition charges? According to their oaths of offices, they all swore to uphold the constitution and laws of the country.
Posted by: rickb223 at January 12, 2026
——-

I’ve pondered this generally for a while. Generally, I’m not sure there is any teeth in this oath taking business. The courts probably defanged that long ago, there is no legal mechanism, it’s just merely performative art.

Maybe someone with a longer institutional memory like Whig might have some insight on oath taking and whether historically it had teeth. I know the commies had a lot of heartburn with it in the 1950s. The founders certainly thought it important.

As a practical matter I think we’ll see some movement on this front, from several directions. The large city model is in trouble, all of them.

They’ve learned how to make bank on illegal aliens, that much is clear.

And I wonder what happened to this country that it could produce such crud as the video "guy."

80 I attribute a lot of this to cell phones. Comms. In the before times, it was understood what you got was what you brought along, get sideways in remote areas you were on your own. There are still seriously remote places and you won’t see anybody for days, especially off trail or off season.

Now? They call emergency dispatch or the Ranger station. “We’re tired, and all out of Pringles. Come get me”

81 Dire Straits Sultans of Swing is an awesome jam…. That song has been near the top of my playlist for years. That guitar work never gets old…

Dire Straits also contributed the awesome Money for Nothing which played constantly on the radio when I was in college… great tune and back in the day they didn’t censor the lyric “… that little faggot he’s a millionaire” heh

Cities like Chicago had council members request a referendum vote. But in all cases, it was promptly shot down by other council members.

218 Point of order - they aren’t “immigrants”, that refers to foreigners who have legal status, having gone through the port of entry and the rest of it.

The usual suspects like to claim “no human is illegal” but that is not the case. They fall into lots of categories but they don’t belong here and they are not immigrants. In recent years illegal aliens is not sufficient to describe. The 9/11/2001 hijackers were largely “visa overstays” - but most accurately described as unlawful enemy combatants

In order to solve a problem it is important to accurately identify and describe the problem.

That's a HELL of a lot of nerve.

Its also a great example of why suing companies board of directors is the most under-used strategies for investors. This is basic level stuff. The Board should have reeled in the Wall Street Journal a very, very, long time ago. All of these once-great companies who let *bullshit* get in the way of their money should have their Boards of Directors sued out of existence.

Anything inconvenient however, should the taxpayer get a case of the ass on something, gets shot down by the corrupt judiciary. Social issues too. Judges decided the taxpayer citizen is on the hook for illegal aliens in the public schools. Plyler.

Old one: a man decides that he's going to try to take some of his fortune with him, so he gets $3 million in cash and gives an envelope containing $1 million each to his doctor, his priest, and his lawyer, with instructions to throw the envelope in his grave when he dies.

After the funeral, the three are in a bar having a drink.

The priest says "I have a confession to make. Our orphanage needs a new roof, a new furnace, and many other repairs, so I threw in only $700,000".

The doctor says "I, too, have a confession. As you all know, I volunteer one of the year in a clinic in Africa. It was in desperate need of a new X-ray machine, so I threw in only $500,000".

The lawyer says "Gentlemen, I am shocked. Shocked! I threw in a check for the full amount."

245 On think that I really appreciated about the old Civil Rights Movement was that they knew they would have to suffer consequences for their civil disobedience and accepted it. In many cases, that was the plan. To, as MLKjr put it, fill the jails to cost money and make their complaint visible.

The current protesters don't expect anything but praise for their "crimes".
-----

MLK was a flawed human, but preached about the "quality of one's character".

Not a single black activist since then has uttered any assertion that one's character was more important than the color of their skin.

⚡️This is the terminal breakdown.

Iran’s currency collapse is the final non-kinetic phase transition before irreversible regime fragmentation. This is an extinction-level internal systems failure.

Full Coherence Analysis:

1. The currency has entered full reflexive death spiral

•Domestic trust is zero
•International convertibility is zero
•Sovereign backing capacity is zero

2. Structural implications:

•All imports halt immediately (fuel, food, medicine)
•Black market becomes the only functioning economy
•The regime loses control over prices, payrolls, logistics, and loyalty

At night. And they went anyway.

288 A wooden roller coaster I grew up riding was in Norfolk, at Ocean View Amusement Park, right on Chesapeake Bay.

The coaster is most famous for being the 'star' of a tv movie, starring Mike Conners, called, funny enough, 'Death Of Ocean View Park' (1979).

The amusement park was closed/sold, the coaster was old, so taking it down in a movie seemed like a good idea.

On a Friday morning, after slats had been cut and all the charges had been set, the button was pushed. Crowds watched as there was a huge explosion and once the smoke cleared, there stood that rickety dangerous roller coaster, a big fuck you. The crowd cheered.

Over the weekend, they cut more wooden slats, redid the explosives and on Monday did the whole thing again. This time, once the smoke cleared, the roller coaster still stood but ever so slowly collapsed with great dignity.

A sad end to one of the great wooden roller coasters.

321 So if I voted for Trump, that means I don't get to eat sushi? Let's play that game libs. You don't get electricity, water, beef, gasoline... There are many more industries that are dominated by conservatives. You also want to deny our dollars to the owners of these restaurants and they are likely to have voted for Trump themselves, because small business owners lean conservative.

🚨 The man accused of setting fire to Mississippi’s largest synagogue admitted he targeted the building because of its “Jewish ties,” according to federal authorities.

During an interview with law enforcement, the suspect referred to the synagogue as the “synagogue of Satan.”

Two Torahs kept in the library were destroyed, and five Torahs from the sanctuary are being evaluated for smoke damage

Hmmph. A "cretin" came from French, in the Alps region and was used to describe someone suffering from what came to be called "cretinism", which was due to severe iodine deficiency, which caused thyroid problems in infants leading to severe mental retardation and growth.

It was originally used as a term of pity. Another example of the euphemism treadmill. IOW, they called them "cretins" to be nice, but it became a pejorative. Like "retard".

341 Those three hikers on Mt. San Antonio, were hiking the Devil's Backbone trail. There's a section of about 200 feet, you slip, you die. That's after or before the horizontal knife-edge ridge of about 200 yards you have to traverse. That 200 ft "trail" is eroded and practically non-existent from all the foot traffiic, it's traversing a steep headwall, and the hand chains are useless. One slip, you die. Hiking the Devil's backbone in December is folly, the trail is muddy and wet with snow.. And people do it every weekend.
