The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"Like many Minnesotans, I have to tell you I was glad to turn the page on 2025. It was an extraordinarily difficult year for our state, and it ended on a particularly sour note,"Soon to be former Gov. Tim Walz (D-MNSomalia)

Quote II

“But I refuse to let the American people pay the price for the Democrats’ incompetence. I am willing to work with anyone to finally bring down costs for all Americans and hope my colleagues across the aisle will commit to doing the same.” Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH)

*****

Perhaps CBD will disagree with me. But, I don't think Europe is salvageable unless the people take up arms and start throwing politicians and bureaucrats out windows. Guess I'll be facing some stern lecturing by some Limey wienie.

10 I don’t mind Shirley spiking the ball on Tim Walz. Walz deserved it.

You're not wrong. Tyranny never stops, it never sleeps, it never wavers, it just keeps picking up speed until the first lamp post is occupied. Same goes for here. It will creep, and creep, and creep. The assholes doing it get more emboldened, more insane, and more delusional that they're untouchable. Look at mamdani, he wouldn't say 10% of what he does if his comrades occasionally experienced high speed dirt.

Well! I'd say, "Welcome, boys!" and scare them off, being olde and in my Land's End 100% Cotton nightgown. But still not looking as bad as Mrs. Maduros and her ears if hauled off. Seriously! Her ears, even before this, were huge! I read somewhere she's inbred and I remembered that family in WV with big ears so think this is true. He dated her for a decade, dangling his little diktater in front of her.

Just to clarify for those who don't live in Oklahoma, here's how out there the University of Oklahoma is. There are 77 counties in this state. President Trump carried all 77 of those counties. Yet, OU is as depraved as any other university--tranny teachers, zero conservatives in entire departments, a past president that had an affinity for young men, a city (Norman) mayor who tried to declare it was a sanctuary city, etc.

All it takes for evil to flourish is about 100 acres, a huge-ass budget, and the naivety to believe that all those smart folks want to do is help young adults get a great education.

100 Because I am olde I saw both Marshall Tucker and Heart live, who are super young in this video.

I love the 1 minute mark where Nancy changes the tempo of the song with her guitar. There's another video where she absolutely rocks this change, but in jeans and more dramatic. Ann's voice, wow. Perfection.

I remember more of the Heart concert at the university, being with my RN roommate (I was still in nursing school).

My boy gang took me to see Marshall Tucker and that's vague but I was there.

Today has been a fun day! President Trump delivers! Not a dull year with him in charge. Or me waiting for Biden to fall off stage.

In the end, that's what politics is all about.

118 And by the way, IF we don't bother to secure the border AND the ballot box, Tim Walz could someday win not only the presidency but the title of intergalactic ruler. We keep making the mistake of assuming that the other side has any principles. They would enjoy rubbing Walz in our faces IF they somehow gained control of the election systems--its part of their kink.

Remember: Joe Biden was a meathead. I mean he was functionally stupid in his *prime*. He was an immoral *idiot*, and a thief. They ran him anyway, 20 years after his "prime". They didn't care. They controlled the election system.

Well, as I understand it, there is now a petition circulating in Albert to force a referendum question on Alberta separating from Canada. They need 177000 signatures, and will probably get many, many more.

Manitoba? I doubt like Hell they would separate. The welfare mentality is very entrenched there. Saskatchewan is a much better candidate to hold their own separation referendum.

134 Grok: guns venezuela.
Regarding "cartels" (a term often misapplied in Venezuela, where the landscape is dominated by criminal gangs like Tren de Aragua, megabandas, and pro-government colectivos rather than traditional drug cartels like those in Mexico or Colombia), their violence has escalated in the power vacuum. These groups aren't unified but opportunistic, exploiting the instability for territorial gains, extortion, and resource control. Based on recent reports:

- **Colectivos (pro-Maduro armed militias)**: These state-backed groups, historically used to suppress dissent, are primarily shooting at anti-Maduro protesters and opposition figures. They've been documented firing on crowds in Caracas neighborhoods like Catia and 23 de Enero, where rallies against U.S. intervention have turned violent. Some colectivos have aligned with remaining Chavista officials (e.g., Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, now acting leader) to defend government buildings and oil facilities, clashing with U.S.-influenced transitional forces or local police who've defected.

- **Criminal gangs (e.g., Tren de Aragua remnants and megabandas)**: Inside Venezuela, these are ...

144 I've noticed something that needs to change for the UK (and even the US). Whenever there is a controversial and totally outlandish program the originators hide behind the bureaucracy. Seldom to you get to determine the actual process and individuals directly involved in history, establishment and ultimate inception of said policy.

And, knowing the source provides (more times than not) an avenue to counter. The example above (allowing illegal immigrants to jump the que on housing) is a good example. Who, specifically, conceived on that choice? What is their background? Is their a Mohammad or two in their name? What other policies has that person been directly involved in?

In the US, we had a situation where out of the blue the Biden administration was defending a program initiated out of an agency to remove gas stoves from the marketplace. Who conceived that? What's their background? Who do they donate to? Who donates to them outside of work?

To date, as I mentioned, these authoritarian and socialist policies start somewhere, and there needs to be better transparency in that regard. After all, how are we going to know who to hang from the lampposts?

1. Pancakes. Light, airy, and they take some effort on the part of the cook.

Scratch pancakes are pretty tough to beat. Scratch waffles, I’ve not had them for many years. Mainly because I’ve no waffle maker.

My parents had some contraption, a waffle maker handed down from my mom’s side, that probably drew enough current to bring another peak load gas plant online. I don’t remember what happened to it. I’ve her solid maple rolling pin and a couple kitchen items that I like almost as much as gramps wrenches and tools and stuff like that. Vintage kitchen utensils are awesome, the family connection.

Them frozen things out of a box are rancid. Is a Waffle batter recipe much different than pancake?

Johnny cakes were usually made on the blade of a shovel, in the field. I’ve been meaning to try Bannock. I like Biscuits but they are a pain in the field a little bit. Yeast breads were a problem, but that’s why biscuits were more common. Cornbread is great stuff but there’s nothing like fresh bread.

261 From the last thread:

89 What we call "penguins" today are not even real penguins. They do not belong in the genus Pinguinus, and are not classified in the same family and order as the great auk. Real penguins went extinct over 100 years ago. Big Penguin's power is based on a lie perpetrated by the malignant mephitic marauders known as Sphenisciformes.

Posted by: Penguin Facts at January 05, 2026 07:38 PM (vFG9F)

I did not know that. I looked it up. Real penguins appeared 400,000 years ago and went away in the mid 1800s. These little goofy bastards that I have been laughing at my whole life are frigging imposters who only started getting called penguin because they look similar to the originals. Amazing.

Also, Korean Zinc, with support of the DoW have agreed to build and operate a Tennessee facility which will be the first zinc refinery built in the United States in more than 50 years and will operate as an integrated smelter capable of producing 13 non-ferrous metals. Most of these materials are designated as critical minerals by the U.S. government due to their role in defense production, advanced electronics, and energy systems.

FWIW, Silver is one of the side-materials recovered in smelting most non-ferrous metal ore.

When I was a kid, the municipal garbage service (overtime!) would collect the trees set on the curb the Saturday after Epiphany and pile them in the middle of the HS practice baseball field. That night was the biggest(and shortest lived) bonfire you ever saw. Probably 3000+ dry pine trees. Flames to the heavens and done in 25 minutes.
We have two permanently decorated Xmas trees that we alternate years. Big black garbage bags over them and into the shed out back til next year. One advantage of a 12' X 32' shed - with a loft.😁

344 I use old spaghetti and mayo jars for the water bath canning. Especially something like apple juice or apple sauce.
The new Classico jars use a different, non-mason lid which pisses me off.

you can use those jars for canning, it isn't a problem, just some will break if you fill them so much there is not enough room for the liquid to expand.

Maybe there are maneuvers. maybe there are other black baggings in the future. Maybe the rumors that the US would like gold and silver instead of Euros at the moment are true.

Once upon a time about 1968 it is rumored that the French sailed a battleship into NY Harbor and said that de Gaulle was asking nicely for the gold back from where it was being secured in case of WWIII.

Mom was frugal, had 4 children and a shoestring budget. She was quite p.o.'d when they changed threads on mayo jars so canning bands no longer fit!

Not many mouths to feed now. Not enough space to store all of the 'junk' glass. I gave 2 dozen jars to a friend of mine who cans. Already have more than I need of tempered glass jars.

The would make a stink. The battleship was to make sure it got back to France.
De Gaulle did not trust the US to not rehypothicate the gold since the Great Society and Vietnam were both costing so much. asking for it back was a way to make sure they had it for certain. Even if it didn't happen, that was when the Bretton Woods agreement was coming apart and no one trusted the US with their gold on a handshake agreement.

382 JQ! I didn't know they had! That's sad. All the interesting good stuff is disappearing.

Mama is starting to wander outside, so it's just about time to put her in a care facility. She'd been in one after a hospital discharge on Halloween, but she had plateaued in her PT, and wanted to come home for Christmas, so we brought her home. She doesn't even remember being there, and it was less than 2 weeks ago. She's fallen twice, even with us there watching her every move. Very, very restless today and whilst I was in the bathroom, managed to get herself out on the front porch. Then tonight, Thor went to check that the doors were locked, and found her on the back deck. Not sure why he didn't hear her go out, but men.

Her overall health is good, or I'd swear she was " blooming"; she was just full of energy and bustling all around with her walker.

Arkansas does not allow any type of restraints or any kind of alarms, which they consider restraints, so I don't know what they'll do. It's possible the memory care facilities do allow them. The care facility we use is amazing, and the memory care is a totally separate building, so maybe they do allow it.

I think the logic is that an alarm prevents absolute freedom of movement, which is by definition a type of restraining? Or some such.

I would think they'd almost have to allow some leeway with severe cases, and maybe that's why it's a totally separate building. I'm just dreading the day. I know you know the feeling!

Those are actually pretty cool. If want to seriously do touring thats a good choice. Very reliable and smooth. Harleys are their own thing, you ride them for the same reason you drive old muscle cars or antique cars. There is a primal rawness to them. Well, not so much these days since they are vastly different, but traditionally. You know you're riding something, and you hammer the throttle with drag pipes and it sounds like a street car with open headers. Its gear head shit.

You get it. I have 2 bikes for riding the wife. A softail with a comfy seat and a short padded sissy bar. Its the bike we used in sturgis. A nice medium distance bike, not real heavy. We use it for shorter rides around here. The other is a full dresser, definitely a tour bike. Has the saddle bags and tour pack which is good in spring or fall if we need to bring jackets, or heading someplace where we need places to pack things, or a longer distance ride. The windshield and faring helps to where you might get away with a sweatshirt where on the other bike with full wind hitting you you'll need a jacket. The other 2 are single seat/solo ground pounders should she feel like riding her own, and then we'll just go out on those.

434 JPMorgan sits at the center of the global silver ecosystem

The silver market is in flux right now. One of the significant changes is that institutions like COMEX and JPMorgan are losing their ability to influence the market. Small investor demand worldwide has exploded in the last decade. China, the no. 2 producer in the world stopped exporting last year. Supply issues have the big boys in tech very concerned. There was a rumor awhile back that Elon was considering investment in the production end to guarantee supply.

Would ask questions that he should've known the answer to.

Would slur speech, without having had anything to drink.

Problem is it a real sign? or just the stupid mistake we ALL make on a daily basis.

If we look for problems, we can find them. My Mom, who was mentally sharp until the end... would sometimes forget something, just like... oh... shit... I do.

Would sometime wander around the house speaking out loud her though process...

But that thought process? always made sense.

441 Thank you, Sock Monkey. It's been a rough year and a half. There's a reason I never wanted kids; I'm not cut out for caregiving. I have zero patience. I don't mind the actual care part; I'm not squeamish, don't mind diaper issues, etc. But, God forgive me, the same question 25 times in one minute, that sort of stuff, that's what nearly drives me to the edge of insanity. And the feeling of being trapped. Before I knew that respite care was an option, I could barely leave the house.

To think that last August (2024) we actually left her alone for 2 nights for Thors prostate surgery just boggles my mind.

Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at January 06, 2026 03:32 AM (Vvh2V)

442 True, Romeo13-- generalized spaciness happens to us all.

It's when those "little things" happen repeatedly, more often and more often, that it becomes a problem.

It's not just *losing the car keys* it's *forgetting what those keys are for* for example...

It can be: Inability to recognize an unsafe situation. Or, demanding to eat at some crazy-weird time. Or, wanting to go out to the shop for some project at 3 in the morning, when there's snow on the ground and no heat source in the shop..

You know-- total nonsense!

Well it's nothing serious. Sometimes I wonder if his field of fucks is barren and he just don't give a shit to think about stuff. I'll give you the latest example. My father was a kitchen remodel guy. 2 weeks ago he got a new electric stove. HE installed this kitchen 15 years ago. He opted to have the place he got it from do the installation, he tells me the price of the stove, and the added price of the cord/whip that gets installed to the stove and plugged into the big stove outlet in the wall. He says they have a few on the truck because they don't know what outlet he has. I said dad, your stove was plugged in, the whip is on your old stove, you don't need another unless you want new, just use your whip and save the money. he says yeah but they don;t know what I have. (??) Dad...your frigging stove has a whip that plugs into your frigging outlet, you already have the right whip. He says but they don't know the outlet. Fangool already with this fucking outlet, you have the frigging whip on your stove that was IN the damn outlet for 15 years. 15 minutes I went through this. It just wasn't registering.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at January 06, 2026 03:38 AM (snZF9)

444 The main thing with my mom was realizing she could no longer connect dots. I would get so passed that she would never tell me she was running low on things. It's a 50 mile round trip to the grocery store, and she'd call up and tell me she was out of cat food, and we'd have gone to town that morning.

I finally realized she coukd no longer register that she was running low on anything, just noticed when it was gone. Then things fell in place, like how Madden ing it was to take her grocery shopping, which I hate anyway, and when we'd meet up, she didn't have half of what was on her list. She said they were out. What's actually happening is that the label had changed slightly, and she didn't recognize it. Started wanting hundreds in cash. Realized it was because she couldn't figure out how to do her checkbook any more.

The problem is that the signs aren't always obvious and the person suffering from Alzheimers is rarely open about it. We often see them only with hindsight. One of the things I could look back and see with my father was that he would get frustrated with seemingly normal routine tasks. That's not necessarily a sign. Alzheimers is a disease that symptoms can be drastically different and unique. If they keep losing their keys that isn't necessarily a sign. When they forget what the keys are for, that's concerning.

Posted by: Sock Monkey * sporting my Andrew Breitbart attitude at January 06, 2026 03:44 AM (vzcgi)

449 And Bers, your mom could've been picking up slack for him, filling in the gaps, so it might be that he just is having a hard time on his own. But those are the types of things that it starts out as.

Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at January 06, 2026 03:47 AM (Vvh2V)

yeah the worrying thing is I did kitchens with him for years. If we were on the job his default position would have been save the customer some money, check the condition of the whip, fuck buying a new one if its good. Now, the other side of the coin is electric stoves "used" to be wired direct, there was no outlet, and the vast amount of stoves we did were gas, because we worked in older houses that always had gas. They only started needing 120 Volt outlets for the electric igniters, and the electrician dealt with that. Its very possible this whole electric stove whip thing was never fully drilled into his brain. Its very possible my brother installed the appliances in his kitchen to start with because he did the plumbing. I was just a little concerned that he didn't understand the concept.

My friend did this, by herself, for 5 years. FIVE YEARS. Moved her lucrative hair salon in a swanky area of Philly to a somewhat scary location closer to their house so she could run over to her mom's to flip her over. Her dad was a paraplegic and couldn't do it. Woke up every 2 hours, for 5 years.
