Results of the Official 2025 Wednesday ONT Prediction Challenge

Did the predicting moose out front already tell ya the winners?

Thank you for those who participated. The challenge had two parts - financial data and events. The financial predictions attracted 19 participants. The event predictions attracted 37 participants.

Financial metrics: cost of gasoline, S&P 500, dollar to Euro exchange rate, 2x4 lumber, Ford F-150 MSRP, Bitcoin, share price of Smith & Wesson, Home Depot and Tesla.

The winner of the financial metrics challenge is: Publius Redux. Blaster was a very close second place and Pennsyltucky was close behind in third.

The clear winner of the event prediction challenge is PaleRider who guessed ALL ten correctly. Impressive. Nobody else was close. Several guessed seven but nobody guessed eight or nine.

The Sean O'Casey Bridge is operated via remote control - but officials apparently lost the device in an office move. It's now operational again...

Dublin's Sean O'Casey Bridge, which has been unable to open to shipping for the past four years, was finally re-opened in the past few weeks after experts created a new remote control for the structure.
Spanning the Liffey between the IFSC and City Quay, it's designed to swing apart to allow sail-craft upriver as far as the Talbot Memorial Bridge.
The design includes two 44-metre-long arms, capable of swinging open when required. That operation is controlled by a hand-held remote device - that device went missing some years ago, meaning openings were no longer possible.
Speaking to this website, Financial Advisor to the Authority John Crawley confirmed that it was once again possible to open the structure to shipping, following an engineering review. A lack of funding meant the process couldn't happen until recently, he said.
As part of the overhaul, work has been carried out on the bridge itself, and contractors were tasked with "reprogramming an opening device," Crawley said.
"Its not like a Sky box remote control. You have to make sure that it's a secure system, so there are layers of security."
An Irish-based firm carried out the reprogramming, and that aspect of the work cost around €1,800, Crawley said.

Very cool to see them play in a small high school gym; they had to adjust their show to allow for the smaller venue. Shorter court and shorter ceiling screwed up a bunch of their trick plays.

That's not actually always true. It is known that view time and engagement goes up if you show people things they violently disagree with because it triggers the "someone is wrong on the Internet" reflex everyone has. X's algorithm definitely works that way if you switch from "Following" to "For You", although Elon says they're trying to make it l less contentious.

I think you've written you relocated to be closer to Grands. Did you come from a larger city or did you exchange one rural for another?

I'm not sure this is even a plan - as always it's what the wife wants to do but she has expressed an interest in getting away from here at least part of the year. We can pretty much go where we want and for as long as we want....so we'd probably be sno-birds and keep the California house for winter and stay in Wyoming enough of the year to qualify as residents.

See the 1953 coup in Iran. That was CIA and MI6, approved by Ike and Churchill. The Shah was technically monarch, but the PM had the power. Shah didn't have much actual power. The PM nationalized the oil industry, which pissed the Brits off.

The coup put the Shah in real power.

The Shah's father came to power years before, ousting some other dynasty, with the Brits involved. Now, right before WWII, the father starting getting friendly with the Germans. He was trying to play all the great powers against each other for his own advantages.

Brits and Soviets invaded Iran in 1941 to protect the oil and supply lines, and removed the Shah's father from power, and put the son, who became The Shah as we think of it in power as the monarch.

The CA Franchise Tax Board came after me for "unpaid income taxes" - they actually got a copy of my 1040, and helpfully calculated my "tax" and penalties - 10 years after I left the state. It was an obvious clerical error at corporate (CA domiciled) about tax data for my division (OR domiciled) that 30 seconds of thought would have shown, but it took three letters from me -last if which was, essentially, fuck off, sue me - and two from corporate accounting to get them to go away.
CA is going to be desperate for revenue, and you'd look like an easy target.

In the video I saw, the officer who shot was in front of the car, and she drove at him. That's when he drew and fired through the windshield, then she turned a little to the right, and he got off two more rounds through the open side window.

In the video I viewed, ICE guy appeared from front vehicle as vehicle accelerated in a right turn. That puts ICE guy, the presumptive shooter, in front of an accelerating vehicle. Whether she saw ICE guy or not, that's on her. He gets benefit of doubt.

The cop was quick but facts: She had shifted into a forward gear, the wheels were pointed directly at the shooter cop and were turning.
Justified self defense.
Refusing to halt aforehand is legally enough.

Also see the "White Revolution" started by the Shah in the early '60s. That was a big modernization program to bring Iran into the 20th Century. That pissed of a lot people, including the Islamic nutjobs, Khomeini being the main one.
