The time has come for mid-week shenanigans of the post-cafe overnight variety. Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and sit a spell. Good will offerings of amusing puns are happily accepted. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors.Thank you for those who participated. The challenge had two parts - financial data and events. The financial predictions attracted 19 participants. The event predictions attracted 37 participants. Financial metrics: cost of gasoline, S&P 500, dollar to Euro exchange rate, 2x4 lumber, Ford F-150 MSRP, Bitcoin, share price of Smith & Wesson, Home Depot and Tesla. The winner of the financial metrics challenge is: Publius Redux. Blaster was a very close second place and Pennsyltucky was close behind in third. Dublin's Sean O'Casey Bridge, which has been unable to open to shipping for the past four years, was finally re-opened in the past few weeks after experts created a new remote control for the structure. Spanning the Liffey between the IFSC and City Quay, it's designed to swing apart to allow sail-craft upriver as far as the Talbot Memorial Bridge. The design includes two 44-metre-long arms, capable of swinging open when required. That operation is controlled by a hand-held remote device - that device went missing some years ago, meaning openings were no longer possible. Speaking to this website, Financial Advisor to the Authority John Crawley confirmed that it was once again possible to open the structure to shipping, following an engineering review. A lack of funding meant the process couldn't happen until recently, he said. As part of the overhaul, work has been carried out on the bridge itself, and contractors were tasked with "reprogramming an opening device," Crawley said. "Its not like a Sky box remote control. You have to make sure that it's a secure system, so there are layers of security." An Irish-based firm carried out the reprogramming, and that aspect of the work cost around €1,800, Crawley said. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Written correspondence can be sent to moronhobbies at protonmail dot com. After watching the Left meltdown today for the thousandth time, I was reminded that it's 13 day until we complete the first year of Trump's second term. If he keeps bringing the hammer and tongs to the Left for the next 3 years that he has for the last 1, we may actually see substantive, lasting change for the better after just one term. Amazing.

Does this guy Walz have ANY sane advisors?
One of the biggest problems in the modern world is... THE ALGORITHM. The MSM, of course, has long said what the left wants it to say but social media... social media tries to give you content which will keep you engaged. So, particularly if you're on the left, it also tells you what you already think. And it never tells you anything else. It's not that his advisors are insane. It's that, literally, everything they see, or hear, anywhere, tells them that EVERYONE supports them and that they're totally right. Now, an intelligent person would question that, if for no other reason than the 2024 election results. But, while they may be sane, they're also stupid. The Harlem Globetrotters first game was played in my town. They've been back a couple times to play on anniversary dates. Very cool to see them play in a small high school gym; they had to adjust their show to allow for the smaller venue. Shorter court and shorter ceiling screwed up a bunch of their trick plays.

That's not actually always true. I need one. HDMI can carry control signals. So the remote for the Apple TV (and presumably other devices) will also turn on the television it is attached to and the stereo the television is attached to (or possibly the other way around, I set it up several years ago). That remote also controls volume. Since I watch television through a DVR, which uses an app on the Apple TV box, the one remote also controls changing channels. Predictions: Iran’s government will fall within days, military caretaker govt first, then the return of the Shah with a constitutional monarchy.
Cuba will take about 2 months to fall. Unknown how messy it will be. The remnants of Maduro’s regime will give up any opposition to the US after that, Cuba’s fall will suck the spirit out of them. Under that pressure Columbias president should be replaced by the end of the year, and the narco traffic in the gulf should be markedly reduced. A consequence of Iran’s fall is the life will be sucked out of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi. They may still exist but will have far less power and influence. Excerpt from John Carter's Substack Blog Postcards from Barsoom:
Canadian liberals, for example, are not actually worried that a Delta Force team will rappel down from an MH-47G Chinook Special Operations Helicopter to blackbag Prime Minister Mark Carney from 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1M 1M4, and not only because the inadequate security of the traditional prime minister’s domicile has motivated Carney to instead take up residence at Rideau Cottage, 1 Sussex Drive, where he is usually home by 9 pm with his wife Diana. The concern is much more general: that the beleaguered Canadian people, along with those of the rest of the rotting West, will look at the remarkable results obtained by regime decapitation in the United States, and start getting ideas. Been thinking lately… kind of a butterfly effect thing.
You know how, if you see an asteroid pointed at earth, and you want to send nukes to change its trajectory, the further out you hit it, the less force it takes to change its course. The Angels, natural super mathematicians that they are (they're the ones who guesstimate the number of hairs on your head), would know exactly how far back you have to intervene to change the course of events. So, for example, they only need to tilt Donald Trump's head ever so slightly so the bullet only nicks his ear… and the entire subsequent course of human events we're seeing now results. Pretty nifty. https://www.mindfulwebworks.com/ best-of-spirits/kreml-shampoo-ad-249x480.jpg Posted by: mindful webworker - ping at January 07, 2026 10:56 PM (dESj/) 199

The era that began in Iran in 1979 has ended, and the ‘Counter-Revolution’ began in 2026! Despite Khamenei's declaration of ‘war,’ the nation of 92 million people is not leaving the streets. From Tehran to Tabriz, police stations are falling, women are burning their mandatory veils, and most importantly, signals of a coup are emerging from within the Iranian Army, under the banner of ‘Lion and Sun.’

IF you pretended not to know how she is, and hired her to run the local YMCA, you'd want to give her time to adapt to her new role. I bet you dollars to donuts that Cea, at the end of a month long evaluation, would be found "deficient" in her performance. She's clearly too *stupid* and *immature* to run the YMCA in Pampa, TX, or in Salina, KS. But don't worry. She's not in charge of either of those places. Haven't heard about this
Richard Miriti@miriti55453 . 23h U.S. COMMANDOS JUST HIT IRAN’S MISSILE SUPPLY LINE — AT SEA. In a rare high-seas raid, U.S. special operations forces boarded a cargo ship in the Indian Ocean and seized $5 MILLION worth of Chinese-origin missile components headed for Iran. The operation happened off Sri Lanka, under cover of darkness. The cargo was confiscated and destroyed on site. No arrests. No injuries. The ship was released. This wasn’t symbolic. It was a direct strike on Iran’s rearmament pipeline — and a warning to suppliers enabling it. Sanctions aren’t just paperwork anymore. They’re being enforced with boarding teams Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at January 08, 2026 12:47 AM (xvXg6) 348

In November 2025, U.S. forces boarded the vessel several hundred miles off the coast of Sri Lanka. The ship, traveling from China to Iran, was carrying dual-use items*—materials that have both civilian and military applications. The specific cargo included components that could support Iran's conventional weapons program. Following the boarding, the U.S. forces destroyed the seized cargo but allowed the ship to proceed on its journey. *Seized Cargo: Components potentially linked to Iran’s missile program. The Shah's job was indeed to keep the commies at bay and prevent the Soviets from getting at the oil fields. With the "Nixon Doctrine" they called it at the time, he was pretty much given a free hand, and he got pretty brutal. The history of this going back to the Brits and the oil is interesting, and lot of lesson to be learned there about what mistakes not to make again if we get Shah, Jr in there. Previous Supreme Court rulings indeed old the decision to invoke the IA is entirely up to the President and not subject to judicial review.
Now, they added some caveats that once invoked, he still has to act lawfully and consitutionally. Well, it would not bother me much if the new Shah had friendly relations with Russia, as long as he does not become actively hostile to the USA or to Israel. Russia is no longer Communist, so unlikely to sending hundreds of subversives into Iran.

See the 1953 coup in Iran. That was CIA and MI6, approved by Ike and Churchill. The Shah was technically monarch, but the PM had the power. Shah didn't have much actual power. The PM nationalized the oil industry, which pissed the Brits off. The coup put the Shah in real power. The Shah's father came to power years before, ousting some other dynasty, with the Brits involved. Now, right before WWII, the father starting getting friendly with the Germans. He was trying to play all the great powers against each other for his own advantages. Brits and Soviets invaded Iran in 1941 to protect the oil and supply lines, and removed the Shah's father from power, and put the son, who became The Shah as we think of it in power as the monarch. Posted by: ARIK ----- If you do that, keep real good records. The CA Franchise Tax Board came after me for "unpaid income taxes" - they actually got a copy of my 1040, and helpfully calculated my "tax" and penalties - 10 years after I left the state. It was an obvious clerical error at corporate (CA domiciled) about tax data for my division (OR domiciled) that 30 seconds of thought would have shown, but it took three letters from me -last if which was, essentially, fuck off, sue me - and two from corporate accounting to get them to go away. Also see the "White Revolution" started by the Shah in the early '60s. That was a big modernization program to bring Iran into the 20th Century. That pissed of a lot people, including the Islamic nutjobs, Khomeini being the main one. Before that there was sort of feudal like system in the country. Piss poor peasant serfs and all that. In hindsight, the Shah should've just executed Khomeini back in the '60s when he had the chance rather than exiling him. I am deeply and profoundly grateful to God for the love of my life. We don't often say this, but it is important to acknowledge when we are given the gift of perfect and immortal love. My soul is entwined in bliss with my perfect love, and I can't imagine any life without him, ever. We just celebrated 28 years of married bliss, but beyond that, I would not like to live without him, ever. I think my cells are in sync with his, we are so close.
I'm not sure we are supposed to have this sort of connection on earth. I think some of this should have been saved for heaven, when I am entwined likewise with Jesus. But for some reason I may never know, God sent me the perfect mate. If you are similarly blessed, don't ever take it for granted. The greatest gift is love.
