THE MORNING RANT: Regime Toppling is the Proper Response to Despots Engaged in Terror & Asymmetric Warfare Against the U.S.

Maduro and DEA Agents.png

The big news this weekend was that the head of the snake was cut off from a communist dictatorship here in the Americas. Of more importance, this serpent, Nicolas Maduro, had been conducting asymmetrical warfare against the U.S. by flooding our borders with deadly drugs and hardened criminals.

Others will be providing exceptional analysis of what lies ahead, but I’ll just briefly mention that while I heartily reject any more “forever wars” like we did in the Bush-era, I absolutely endorse taking out the leadership of hostile regimes which are actively engaged in the killing of American citizens on U.S. soil. Maduro was at war with the United States. His arrest was the polite option.

I have seen Maduro’s war on U.S. civilians up close and personal. A client of mine lost a child to a drug overdose, and my wife has had to comfort two very good friends who lost children due to lethal drug ingestion.

In addition, Tren de Aragua used Biden’s open border to start operating throughout Tennessee. Maduro’s crime cartel has been engaged in sex slavery and other crimes near where I live: “Member of Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, arrested in Chattanooga” [Fox 17 Nashville – 11/25/2024]

Maduro brought death and destruction to American soil. He had to be removed.

I have written before that Colin Powell’s concept of “we broke it, we bought it” is flawed when it comes to international uses of American military power. Instead, if we find ourselves having to “break it,” we have no obligation “to buy it.” But if we can peacefully transition Venezuela away from being a communist adversary to being a friendly neighbor, that is certainly desirable.

More importantly, we don’t necessarily have to “break it” with widespread destruction, as shown in both the Iran strikes and now in Venezuela. Maduro in Venezuela and the mullahs in Iran had been correct in assessing that Americans don’t have the stomach for any more multi-year, nation-building ventures, therefore they felt empowered to support terror and asymmetric war against the United States. Destroying a despot’s ability to govern and inflict terror is much cleaner than killing tens of thousands of conscripts.

Perhaps more importantly, liberating Venezuela from Maduro also takes out an ally of China in our hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine is perhaps more important today than it was two centuries ago. We cannot tolerate China’s or other BRIC navies being in control of the coastal waters off of Latin America.

In fact, this is a very good time to focus our international strategies on the western hemisphere. At this moment, in which the Christian citizenry of Latin America is celebrating the removal of an international communist, the atheist/secular/Islamist power structure in Europe is condemning Maduro’s removal.

Maduro was also a close ally of Russia and Vladimir Putin. All those Democrats and media partisans who spent the past decade pushing Hillary Clinton’s hoax that Trump is a Putin stooge must be having a hard time digesting the news that Trump, looking out for America’s best interests, just poked Putin in the eye.

“Russia harshly criticizes US attack on Venezuela, capture of Maduro” [The Hill – 01/03/2026]

Russia is offering stark criticism of the U.S. military attack on Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.

“This morning, the United States carried out an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This causes deep concern and condemnation,” Russia said in a statement from its Foreign Ministry.

By taking out the communist leadership in Venezuela, and with the imminent(?) toppling of the Iranian mullocracy, a very powerful message has been sent to any despot who wants to cause harm to the United States. As Zineb Riboua said, “At the end of the day, it is absolutely crucial for any leader around the globe to believe that the United States can get him if it wants to. That belief is deterrence. And that type of willpower is the backbone of national security.”

America’s national security has been strengthened by the removal of Maduro. Any foreign leader who continues to engage in asymmetric warfare against American civilians should strongly reconsider the consequence of what s/he is doing.

And operating as a linchpin for a global triangular (quadrangular?) trade between Red China, Iran and Russia. Missile parts from Red China to Iran, via Venezuela. Oil direct to Red China from Venezuela. Unflagged or false-flagged freighters go in and out of Venezuela.

Yes, Venezuela was exporting gangsters and drugs to and importing remittances from the US, but it's a key point in a much bigger game, too. Not the only key point, to be sure, but it's important.

I *strongly* suspect that this stymies a lot of Red China's plans, and probably hurts Iran a lot.

There was a DEA report from earlier this year, it summarized the Venezuelan contribution to the drug problem in the country to the low level street gangs (who have mostly been deported already).

It didn't actually attribute any of their activities to the government of Venezuela, who have been actively fighting them on their own shores.

And most of what they imported to the U.S. through gang members, were drugs that were some kind of Venezuelan thing, sold almost entirely among Venezuelans living in this country.

Whatever. Maduro is a bad guy. And the country has lots of oil. So we're gonna take it. Yay us.

NOT to be used on tyrants who "play ball". Not to be used on "tyrants" that are friendly to our interests.

We aren't, and shouldn't be, interested in freeing every people out there. Freeing a people through no effort of their own will cause them not to value that freedom as they should. (Like any other handout.)

As I said over the weekend: "Speak softly and carry a big stick" only works if you are willing to use the stick.

Trump just swung a big stick. It doesn't matter if he speaks softly or harshly now, he's got the tyrants' attention. (But he'll likely have to speak harshly before the US can go back to soft warnings, because the world knows it's not an empty threat- E.G. Biden's "don't".)

If this raid went down the way it's described, it probably doesn't matter.

Russian weapons, American weapons, slings and arrows, whatever. If we got in and out that quickly with that little damage, it tells me that they didn't fight back, at least not outside of the presidential palace as it was being turned into an LZ.

You can heave the best weapons on earth and it doesn't matter at all if you don't use them - and it looks like Venezuela didn't. Whether that was a choice or not, I don't know.

Maduro had outlived his usefulness, and was causing more problems than he was worth. Chevron was the party most harmed by Chavez's expropriation of foreign-developed oil infrastructure and leased reserves. The built up a huge amount of Venezuela's oil infrastructure, then Chavez nationalized it and told them to GTFO.

In his presser, Trump described plans for Venezuela's oil infrastructure as what amounts to a restitution to those American firms expropriated. Chevron will be at the front of the line for that.

92 “De-Nazification” didn’t work in Germany because the whole damn country was in the Nazi party. If you weren’t, you ended up in a camp. The pool of available replacements were the communists, who were arguably worse. Patton, for all his supposed flaws, had this figured out.

McArthur was made the supreme commander overseeing Japan. Post war planners figured out soon enough the way to keep the peace in the long run was not to grind them into the dirt - but to return their governments to responsibility and accountability and make them trading partners.

They did not want Soviet style partitioning of Japan, the Soviets were not our partners in peace.

The Soviet Union is gone, though not their legacy of communist dunderheads. Lenin, Marx, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, et al sure fucked everything up but good.

Fentanyl (which doesn't come from Venezuela) kills mostly because users don't know how much they're getting, or they don't realize they're getting it at all!

They think they're getting something else, and it turns out a lethal dose of fentanyl just somehow got in there.

I would imagine most users who buy from the same dealers have a "trust" issue going on, but it's when you buy from someone you don't know.....

Yes, it's something to pay attention to.

I *suspect* it's going to be new leases and development deals with preferential bidding/terms for previously-expropriated American firms, with a rider about US military assets co-located with major US-developed infrastructure. I doubt it will be exclusive for American companies or that these deals will amount to the entirety of the now-former PDVSA, but that the Americans put up the most capital and gets a treaty agreement that it will have military assets to defend the investment.

There are also multiple levels of drug dealers, like a supply chain in any other industry. The local street dealers actually selling to customers buy the stuff pre-packaged from distributors higher up the chain. The street deals have no interest in killing off their business, but they don't blend the drugs and obviously aren't going to say "no" to orders from customers.

As of December 2025, Venezuela's oil shipments to China averaged over 600,000 barrels per day.

Various reports indicate that between 80% and 90% of Venezuela’s exported oil goes to China, with some sources citing figures as high as 85% to 88% of crude exports being directed to Chinese refineries, often via transshipments or through intermediaries to bypass U.S. sanctions.

Small independent Chinese refiners, known as "teapots," are the primary buyers of discounted Venezuelan crude, while a portion of the oil is also used to repay Venezuela’s debt to Beijing, estimated at over $10 billion.

The situation is complicated because Citgo is actually a US company that is owned by PDVSA (Vene's state-owned oil company). There's been litigation over ownership and control. IIRC, the latest ruling is that PDVSA has to sell off Citgo. I'm not sure how all this plays out, especially now with Uncle Sam's foot on Vene's balls.

That's a part of it. The Petrodollar is a subset of the entire Reserve Currency scheme, and we did unthinkable damage to that system in how we sanctioned Russia after the Ukraine invasion.

Venezuela is a major player in trade for American enemies or or rivals, in the middle of the China/Russia/Iran triangle. The petrodollar is a part of it, but Saudi Arabia is more important on that front. Moving large volumes of goods with no dollars at all is a bigger generalized problem, and that was also probably in the list of reasons for this action. I suspect the flow of goods was a bigger factor than the currencies that paid for them, but I doubt that it wasn't on the list at all.

It's definitely harder to process than, say, the SA oil, but not impossible. IIRC, most of the large facilities that could do the processing are here in the US.

226 In his later years my father in law enjoyed hosting lunches with his many friends and associates from the oil and financial world he revolved in. There were a few of them that spent their childhoods in Venezuela as their fathers developed the oil industry down there. These folks in their 80s in 2022 had their careers in the Venezuela their fathers built 100 years ago.

Their descriptions of the country and living in it was very positive. Houston was huge commercial benefactor of the oil coming from there. The Lyondell Refinery that is being taken down now is the oldest and was the largest in Houston. It was built by Citgo to process the heavy crude exclusively. There are now several smaller facilities local to Houston that can perform that work.

242 That's a part of it.

Two different issues. The Oil Sands which do require expensive processing like Canadian ones do and the coastal oil belt with the heavy crude. In some ways, and this is strictly from memory, heavy crude is better for making jet fuels and diesel and IRRC, refineries can sometimes mix heavy and light crude to get optimal blend of distillates.

US refineries are already set up to remove sulfur from diesel I think as current emissions stds. on diesel require it. Sulfur maims catalytic converters.

There will be no capacity for meaningful revenge, so that's one upshot.

But the short version of "how long" can be answered easily. "Does the growth in dollar-denominated external trade match or exceed the growth in dollars?" If the answer is 'yes,' our excess dollar emissions are exported and sequestered abroad, and we see low inflation. If the answer is 'no,' then it doesn't and we see high inflation.

If the dollar stops being used (more trade is non-dollar-denominated), more dollars have to go home. More inflation.

Global trade is not growing fast enough *and* more of it is non-dollar-denominated, which makes our debt-fueled spending (excess dollar emissions) more troublesome at home.

308 Secretary of War Pete Hegseth

@SecWar
Six weeks ago, Senator Mark Kelly — and five other members of Congress — released a reckless and seditious video that was clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline. As a retired Navy Captain who is still receiving a military pension, Captain Kelly knows he is still accountable to military justice. And the Department of War — and the American people — expect justice.

Therefore, in response to Senator Mark Kelly’s seditious statements — and his pattern of reckless misconduct — the Department of War is taking administrative action against Captain Mark E. Kelly, USN (Ret). The department has initiated retirement grade determination proceedings under 10 U.S.C. § 1370(f), with reduction in his retired grade resulting in a corresponding reduction in retired pay. The interesting thing is that on the Pacific route the Navy and Coast Guard are shooting the engines, and then blowing the boats after they pull the crews off instead of just popping them with missiles under weigh. Are they flying flags? Are they registered in ports? Those are key questions which I don't think anyone outside the military can answer, though. It could be a deciding factor.

It may also just be that America doesn't recognize the ruling government of Venezuela as legitimate, so it feels free to treat obvious drug boats coming from their ports as pirates without compulsion. I mean, the state was technically run by the head of a drug cartel until a few days ago.

And Rogan is another one, he just wants to do shows and run his comedy club and do his hobbies like hunting and pool and martial arts, when he could be using his personal influence to change the very shape of MAGA to something more ideologically acceptable.
What a loser.

435 And...it works okay, but the best canned seltzer is definitely better. I just ordered a couple more gas canisters, so maybe I will try to make some interesting carbonated stuff.

Like carbonated bourbon!

I run my tap water through a Zerowater filter before using the Sodastream. Canned Seltzer water?

And please don't oppress me with the thought of cabonated bourbon LOL. I can barely tolerate the thought of adding a dash of branch water.

I mean, besides progressive pains in the ass.

441 Doof, since you're here, and this is utterly off-topic, w/r/t the weekly commenter stats, would you consider displaying the sockpuppeteers' hashes with the nic you picked? Sometimes it's obvious (Quarter Twenty, Duncanthrax, most Miklos - currently Imklos) but usually it's not. Thanks!

445 Floyd indeed couldn't breathe...not because of Chauvin holding him with a knee on his shoulder, but because Floyd was in respiratory distress. He needed Narcan. He FAFO.

Truedat. Opioids do depress respiratory function to the point of death if dosage is large enough. And once you start combining cocktails of drugs, you are a beta tester for some shitty drug dealer conducting experiments as to what is a cheap filler.

I'm sure he's not above having his palm crossed with silver, but unlike most media people, he doesn't really need the $$$, being a wealthy heir and all.

Like all media people, though, he's completely consumed by his ego and wants to feel like a VIP. So he panders to 'tards.

"To conserve" is a transitive verb. American conservatives conserve the American way of life, including religious traditions and, especially, the Constitution.
