The rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will be assumed on January 1 by Somalia – a barely functional state that has exported thousands of “refugees” to the rest of the world, accompanied by crime waves and social distortions U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer highlighted the absurdity of handing over the presidency of the Security Council to “the #1 Worst Country in the World on the failed state index last year.”
. . . “Somalia is a failed state that under 12 indicators was ranked the world’s worst on terrorism, corruption, inability to collect taxes, mass displacement, economic collapse, group grievance, brain drain, and chronic insecurity,” he continued.

I wonder if there is any connection to the Turtle Island Liberation Front that came to the fore in the waning days of last year. TO refresh your memory:

Just when you thought the Somali welfare fraud story couldn’t get any more ridiculous, allegations have emerged that Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and Somalia’s UN Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman ran a company called Progressive Health Care Services Inc in Cincinatti, Ohio.

What America desperately needs is the ATBLF, the Anti-Turtle Bay Liberation Front!

But I digress. But then again, speaking of failed states, wars on capitalism . . "terrorism, corruption, inability to collect taxes, mass displacement, economic collapse, group grievance, brain drain, and chronic insecurity" , look what happened on New Years Eve just a few miles south of Turtle Bay in New York's City Hall Park:

Scores of Zohran Mamdani fans who braved freezing temperatures to celebrate the new mayor as he was publicly sworn into office Thursday were left disappointed by the bash the socialist pol had promised.
Around 10,000 supporters stood outside City Hall during the event — billed as an “Inauguration for a New Era Block Party” by Mamdani’s staff — crammed into several barricaded pens without access to bathrooms or any food concession stands.

The hilarity of this is just priceless!!! No food and no bathrooms in sub zero temperatures. Somewhere out in the great beyond Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Ivan Denisovich and the tortured souls that haunt the Gulag Archipelago are pointing their fingers and laughing their asses off at NYC's braindead schmucks.

To paraphrase a punchline from the radioactively non-PC yet funny book for those old enough to remember it, "Race Riots" the reason there was no tree bark lasagna on hand for the rubes was because the political prisoner with the recipe had died.

30 Somalia chairing the UNSC is absurd, but so is the UNSC and the UN. Why not? What will change? Nothing, of course. Some Somalian diplomat will scheme in an office with a moderately different view. Nothing else or more. The UNSC is a joke because it was designed to be. The permanent veto nations ensure that it's a participation trophy for everyone else, and yet everyone knows the UNSC would be somehow even *more* useless than it is now if the absurdity of the permanent veto members didn't exist.

Especially when it comes to the EU. The domestic Eurocrats view themselves as a Europeans, not Bulgarians (in this case) and the rest of the government sees admission to the Empire in the same way peripheral states have *always* viewed being taken into an empire - as access to the empire's resources. Ceding sovereignty and accepting the empire's fetters are worth it for the cash and stable power for the rulers who do it.

What is odd is finally getting around to it now. Back in the late 90s or early aughts, before the EU had obviously failed, I could see it much more easily. But this is like a small independent nation in the Pacific negotiating admission into the British Empire in 1947.

The UN Security Council consists of 15 members of which 5 are permanent. The non-permanent members may vote on resolutions but since either the US, Russia, or China will veto almost everything brought up, the whole thing is pretty pointless. Having China as a permanent member was absurd, too. It was consolation prizes all around after the War. America's China lobby ensured China got a seat, the UK was an obvious choice (my, how the mighty have fallen) and France was more or less a sympathy inclusion.

The whole thing has been absurd since its inception. It would have worked better if it had *actually* managed to avoid non-approved wars. Having stupid countries in constant opposition to each other in charge of international decision-making ensures no decisions get made and that is a good thing, but it also makes the organization irrelevant if anyone who wants to goes and does it anyway.

"YOU TOOK ACTION WITHOUT UNSC APPROVAL!!!! OMG!!!!" is a sentence that has only every been uttered by an academic.

That may be one of the reasons for the absence of suppression on this.

Fraud is going to be a major story for the first quarter or maybe even first half of the year, but while it will be a huge deal with tons of major revelations, it isn't go to result in major changes. It's too big. The entire damn thing is fraud, and it isn't a "partisan" issue, it's a "government" issue and therefore it can't be fixed because it's everywhere. The system will collapse under the weight of exposed criminality if they try.

So they will let the cycle burn itself out as fatigue sets in and send a couple of rubes to jail over it and declare victory.

That may be one of the reasons for the absence of suppression on this.

Fraud is going to be a major story for the first quarter or maybe even first half of the year, but while it will be a huge deal with tons of major revelations, it isn't go to result in major changes. It's too big. The entire damn thing is fraud, and it isn't a "partisan" issue, it's a "government" issue and therefore it can't be fixed because it's everywhere. The system will collapse under the weight of exposed criminality if they try.

It should be easy to flip some low level people in Minnesota. Licensed child cares are required to have an unannounced inspection yearly, and up to four inspections during their initial year of operation. The feds have to be targeting the people who signed off on the inspections.

And those places that were cited for violations had to submit corrective action plans, with a subsequent inspection to confirm compliance.

The Battle of Camden was fought about five miles north of the crossroads that define the present town's center. There was not a much to define the battlefield when I lived there in the early 80s except the pine woods that are characteristic of that part of South Carolina. I am guessing that building up the area is underway, as that was not the case back then.

There was a second battle in that area, closer to town, Hobkirk's Hill, at a later date. That area was built up and had been settled for some time. The Buckley family had a summer home there. One of the brothers, Reid, ran a school that taught public speaking from there.

My mother has always been extremely political. When I was young and didn't know better, I aligned with her reflexively and we got along. As I matured and came to see things differently (basically I applied what she taught me impartially, and realized the Democrats were completely amoral), it has been difficult. The kids don't feel comfortable around her. When she visits, we focus on the great-grandchildren, and rarely talk on the phone because she gets carried away and I've more than once found myself on the brink of being disowned.

One must prioritize family, and I take my obligation to my parents seriously, but at the same time it cannot be a license to abuse. Happily, even though we also disagree on politics, my father and I can talk and argue without getting mad. We chat almost every day. I think my mother is jealous of this, since she was the one who filed for divorce and tried to alienate me from him.

The kiddos all have good jobs but live now in blue shitholes, so their views are definitely more to the left than mine.

We don't have political discussions because they become heated quickly and create bad feeling, which is stupid IMHO cuz we gather to be family and that much more important than politics. Anyone who can't behave and control themselves for the usual 3-4 day visit is a knucklehead in my book, and we all seem to agree on that point.

Yes, it's frustrating they hold some of their views because they all are very smart, but I figure in time they will all figure things out.

486 so the parade yesterday - the weather kind of stunk and at 5am when they were setting up (the string bands) there was a snow squall and a lot of their props were destroyed - and five guys ended up in the hospital)

so FIRST I was all salty bc they were going to still march but without the props and a lot of their gear, and not really do their "sets."

but in the end - it was great. it was old school! wonderful day. I do credit our Mayor, and she walks the whole parade, she is not the brightest bulb but has the best attitude and cares a lot about the city.

I have to disagree with you here in most cases. There are true believing activists no doubt but most of the people you run into on a regular basis are lefty LIVs.

I'll give you another example. I ended up on a mailing list for working moms in a blue area. They constantly complained about having to be taxes on their "help" and complained about how much money younger American women wanted to do child care work (compared to illegals).

This is when "the living wage" and "rich people aren't paying enough taxes" were the two biggest leftwing talking points and in both cases these same women would mouth the talking points, but when it came to really believing them? Oh hell no.

American people are highly taxed. So much so that the old "Breadwinner brings home the bacon" is null and void. Both husband and wife must work at least one job each to afford both taxes and their family. As a side effect of this, they cannot be at home to watch over the children as well. So they have to take their kids to daycare, in the hands of someone not of their family and possibly not of their beliefs.

The day care must be paid either from their taxes. or directly. No free lunches for normal people.

From recent Instapundit postings, the math is mathing that a huge chunk of federal spending is lost to theft and fraud. One obvious point of fraud is payment to "daycare" centers. Which may not actually be caring daily for kids. Not the ones for actual working people, anyways.

To conclude:
Mommies are torn from their children and made to work, just to be able to afford a place to host their children while they're working.

"Empowerment of women" in the workplace isn't feminism - it's indentured servitude. They're taking away the option for most parents to stay at home with their children because they have to work to afford life.
