Musical Interlude Song is Konya wa Hurricane from the anime Bubblegum Crisis. Anime is... Oh. You guessed. One of the best opening sequences to anything ever. Apart from the great soundtrack, it introduces us to all the major characters without telling you that they are the major characters, and to the premise of the series without saying a word. There are a couple of minutes of establishing shots before the song starts, but I chose this clip precisely because it has those. Disclaimer: Burning touch? We have pills for that now. They don't want to say it out loud but the real purpose of the audio work is capturing the sound and mannerism of aged out or dead actors to make the movies that would have been good casting decades ago but with modern production standards. Unless they choose to have something look dated, like a adaptation of 'Scarlett' with the original cast and appearance of 'Gone With The Wind'. Though they could also remake GWTW with that cast but looking like it was made today with no budget limits.
The big one I'm expecting is Disney adapting the Star Wars EU novels that pick up right after 'Return of the Jedi'. They've already secured the use of James Earl Jones' voice for future appearance of Darth Vader. I've no doubt they're already making overtures to the rest of the core cast, to make millions for themselves or their heir in exchange for nothing more than a signature on a contract. No. The earth's tilt is pretty stable (you can think our big Moon for that), but varies from 24.5 to 22.1 degrees over a 41K year cycle. We're on the decreasing leg of that now. It was last at maximum somewhere around 8500BC or so, has decreased to 23.44 degrees right now. It will bottom out at 22.1 then start increasing again. Politicians Lord, I know I should pray for our leaders and statesmen and women, but they seem hopeless and beyond praying for.. Yet I know quite well we have to pray for those that despitefully use us, and you never thought people were so bad as to be impossible to save. But didn't you have your doubts about the Pharisees? Probably you prayed about them a lot but the Bible doesn't tell us how. Teach us to pray for our politicians, and give me faith to keep on praying in the hopes that you will give them wisdom and eyes to see beyond their own party.... One tale, in which the lead cat tells the other two about how she was rescued, appeared in our writing group's anthology -- which unfortunately is not on Amazon or anywhere. 81 BERNIE: "City-sponsored grocery stores will save society money!"

Since Mandami wants to decriminalize prostitution, can you imagine what a "city-sponsored" whorehouse would be like? Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at January 02, 2026 06:33 AM (tgvbd) 95
That's sounds great. I'm sorry it's not readily available. You're probably familiar with Paul Gallico's book, "The Silent Meow" in which he talks about a cat adopting him. His wife who was a professional photographer did the pictures. It is very funny.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 02, 2026 *** I do know it! I need to read it again. Another of the tales, in which The Cats comment on the puzzle of human holidays, appeared on a website which is now defunct -- I think. Maybe I can find it. (Marie, the black cat, wonders why the humans at one point every fall put up pictures of her all over the house -- "Just my outline, with my back arched and tail bushed out. I can't figure it out.") Letter to the Editor in today's "NY Post":
After Minnesota, the next time someone in the news on the left or right says something like “we have to act in order to protect ‘our democracy,’ ” the rest of us owe it to ourselves to consider the possibility that the “democracy” they mean is one that uses taxpayer dollars to appease groups of voters who tend to cast ballots as they’re told. Pass the popcorn. I think watching NYC starve is going to be entertaining.
Here is something I taught my kids: I want to be exploited. If I am not being exploited there are no profits for the enterprise and I don't have a job. Only in government are people paid more than they are worth. Posted by: No one at January 02, 2026 06:44 AM (qFwJc) 107

Aaaannnnd, now I'm seeing memes that say things like "McDonald's should pay a living wage to its employees." or "Instead of tipping, restaurants should pay their servers more." (I suspect that the people who say this sort of thing tip very poorly). Tell you what. It's not too difficult to acquire a McDonald's franchise or open a restaurant. Do it, pay your staff as much as you want and let's see what happens. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at January 02, 2026 06:53 AM (tgvbd) 111

NYC will limp along, just as it did in the '70s, just as California does now. There's an unhealthy apocalyptic sensibility developing in conservative circles. But like Doomcock endlessly pronouncing the end of Kathleen Kennedy or woke Disney, if it ever happens, it'll only be a coincidence.
