Chicago O’Hare International Airport, one of the busiest travel hubs in the world, made headlines this week after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials confiscated several illegal and disturbing items from an arriving passenger’s luggage—including monkey meat. The traveler, arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was stopped during a routine inspection at O’Hare. Upon examination of their luggage, officers discovered over 11 pounds of pest-infested beans, 17 pounds of unidentifiable plant material, and approximately 4 pounds of dried monkey meat, which was later classified as non-human primate meat. In addition to the monkey meat, authorities also seized what they described as mummified small primates.Sorry to disappoint you, but the article contains no mention of greasy, grimy gopher guts.

A delicious New Year's traditional family supper of black-eye-pea stew, this year with added burger (not pork, it's Oklahoma), avocado, and Santa Fe style chile verde. Also, cornbread - marbled yellow and blue corn - with jalapeños, and honey-butter. Five humans dining, and five dogs frolicking for full festive chaos.
For luck to last a year, technically, you must be sure to consume a minimum of 365 peas; 366 in Leap Years. Setting goals for the new year: to lose all those extra pounds put on since Thanksgiving. Happy New Year, alla y'all. Posted by: mindful webworker - Right? Right! at January 01, 2026 09:59 PM (dESj/) 2

Olongapo and Subic Bay Memories September 5, 2024 Sailors and Marines may have jokingly and endearingly called this popular Pinoy street food as “monkey meat” but in reality, it is pork barbecue or “meat kebab” made of pork slices marinated in a sweet and savory sauce and grilled to perfection. A very popular street food in Olongapo, it is commonly peddled on makeshift grill carts along Magsaysay Drive and Rizal Avenue. Those who have tasted this grilled barbecued pork like the sweet, salty, and slightly spicy flavor combo and could be addictive. Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at January 01, 2026 10:21 PM (pkeXY) 82

Everyone thinks since we are not in an active war (or police action) that there are no military overseas. I know this group knows better, but we need to shout it out to the the other half of the USA. According to U.S. Southern Command: • Dec 30: Three boats struck after confirmed narcotics transfers • At least 3 killed on the first vessel • Remaining boats were tracked, engaged, and sunk • Coast Guard conducted follow-on operations • Dec 31: Two additional narco vessels targeted • 5 more killed Total: 5 boats destroyed. 8 traffickers killed. Piper, these were store-bought from-a-can, which probably didn't help (but on the other hand, if the lowest common denominator is tolerable, a better recipe should be great).

One of the common sources of off-by-one errors. The Roman priests screwed up leap years for a while by that same error, making ever 3rd year be leap, rather than 4. Augustus fixed it by skipping 3 leap years sometime, when they aren't exactly sure, but it was correct by (what we now call) 8 AD. Could've been by 4AD, but they ain't sure. For cornbread, I use a round cast-iron skillet, with a good layer of bacon grease before I pour the batter. The box recipe says 15-20 minutes, about 18 comes out just right - the toothpick is dry and clean, the crust is brown but not black, and the bread is fluffy and crumbly.

Posted by: mindful webworker As I was taught, a full three days and three nights are the legal requirement for death. Jesus was dead for three days and three nights. Death on Wednesday at sunset, resurrection Saturday at sunset. The whole sunrise service seems nice as in Jesus rose like the sun, but the sun worship thing is something else that got mixed in. JC has Saturday night to visit the imprisoned spirits thang, and he was long gone when they came for his body.
