49 I'm a bit "muh" on the painting. It's nice.
But, I would like to go to the actual location.
See a full moon from that spot, to see what the artist saw.

I think often about the phrase "the medium is part of the message." What is that message?

Like, what if that scene was rendered as:
- a black and white photo
- a color photo
- a video with or without audio
- just an audio clip
- described in prose, as a poem, a song

And so on, so many ways to describe and limit one scene, one brief moment in time and space.

57 Beautiful cloudy night sky. I especially like the way he captured the reflection in the water and the way the plant growth looks in that soft, filtered light: shadowy and subdued with muted color. The scene is quiet and peaceful.

I found a couple of his other works on his Wiki page. He had a way to use light to create a mood, both in how the light brought out features in the image (hard shadows and bright color during the morning) and how that light affected the people in the scene.

Wikipedia, in part, "Blue Bayou" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It was originally sung and recorded by Orbison, who had an international hit with his version in 1963. It later became Linda Ronstadt's signature song, with which she scored a top 5 hit with her cover in 1977. Many others have since recorded the song.

Yes, a great song.

It's interesting how medium can change how a scene looks and feels. To me, this image in B/W photo or maybe sepia would have a gothic-esque mood. This painting is quiet and peaceful, however.

171 The Mamdani administration is discussing driving white people out of New York.

CA is planning on RETROACTIVELY taxing billionaires for 5% of their net worth.

The query refers to the
proposed "2026 Billionaire Tax Act", a California ballot initiative that would impose a one-time, 5% tax on the net worth of residents worth over $1 billion if approved by voters in November 2026. This is currently a proposal, not an enacted law

1) How is that even legal? How can you tax someone retroactively?
2) Billionaires have, of course, already started leaving the state.
3) "One time". Right.

I'm starting to think that leftists don't understand how people and money work.

There is a lot of discussion about pretax and post-tax investing.

Roth IRAs seem to be a solid choice for post-tax, because the gains are not taxed, which is great. But the amount of money you can put into Roths is limited.

Everyone's profile is different on investment decisions but everyone wants a magic ticket to success.

People differ in what they need to do by age, their risk tolerance regarding what investments are acceptable, whether they have a pension, do heirs matter, current assets owned, and what kind of lifestyle they envisage if and when they retire and for how long.

The big questions asked:
what will be future inflation rates, wealth taxes, will the system still exist to pay pensions/social security/medicare, health of the individual, future likelihood of face colander times, etc.

These big questions cannot be answered within the current investment frameworks. Simply put, everyone's crystal ball is cracked and while doom prepping might be right on its prediction on one event, it likely gets thwacked upside the head with another.

Sleeping on a bed of gold bricks, for example, means you hope to exchange them for food etc. and but that makes you vulnerable to gangs that shoot you and take your gold.

I hear there is some kind of anti-Jim Cramer index - every time he says buy they sell & vice-versa.
They say it beats the normal index funds

I saw a post on Twixxer a few weeks ago about that - it even beat Nancy Pelosi's investment portfolio.

Pretty much. These are not the old style liberals which have died out mostly or moved right. These are leftists that adopt the hive method (or Borg if ST is your thing).

Politics has become their religion and the belonging the the Borg is what keeps them from spiritual and physical death.

They cannot stand apart from their Hive because to them, it means exclusion and social/spiritual death soon to follow.

It is what happens when people worship an idol of their own making instead of the one and true G_d.

234 One of the most revealing features of our current moment is the growing contempt with which ordinary people are treated. When citizens express concern, they are ‘misinformed’. When believers speak plainly, they are ‘divisive’. When communities resist, they are ‘dangerous’. This reflex betrays a governing class that has lost moral confidence. It no longer persuades; it manages. It no longer leads; it nudges. It no longer trusts; it regulates.

I saw a clip of some political party el in Canuckistan talking about Alberta separation.

They kicked off a signature drive to get a ballot question on separation. So far it has been exceptionally successful with people lining up for hours to sign petitions.

The Karens on the panel were saying something like we maybe shouldn’t have dismissed this as some fringe thing. Maybe the people are really serious about it. Uhm yeah bitch, maybe if you stepped outside your bubble for 2 minutes you would have known that already.

Vivek Ramaswamy is not an anchor baby. His parents both came here legally, his mother obtained citizenship. Nick Fuentes can pound sand.
