120 103 Further to the discussion this morning about Valero shutting down its refinery and paying a billion dollar fine, Chevron is writing down $2.3 billion in California refinery assets, and Exxon is writing down $2.5 billion in California refinery assets - both companies saying that the refineries are now non productive and will be looking for any buyers.

It is now impossible to refine petroleum in California, but the good news is that California will be banning gasoline powered vehicles, so it all makes sense.

‘Javid Shah!’

Why Iranians are calling for the return of the Pahlavis and their monarchy

As protesters took to the streets of Iran this week, amid chants of anger against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and fury over an economy in free fall, a slogan once considered politically unutterable returned, and the sounds of crowds chanting it filled the air.

“Javid Shah” – Long Live the Shah.

Videos ... showed demonstrators chanting openly in support of the Pahlavi dynasty, ... alongside calls for the downfall of the Islamic Republic.
..., the chant is existentially threatening. It is a sign that anger has moved beyond dissatisfaction with economic policies or personalities and toward rejection of the Islamic Republic itself.

And that is going to drive prices at some point next year to between $8 and $10 per gallon for the entire left coast, even while gas prices are $1.99 in Texas and other places.

That’s why my economic prediction is for a bifurcated economy next year; boom times in the center of the country and the south, while California, the rest of the left coast and New England sink into a near depression,’

It will make national economic numbers weird; it will be as if there are two separate countries, economically.

California uses a special blend of gas not produced anywhere else in the US so we're a gas island.

However, a few weeks ago Ace (i think) linked a video by 'Black Conservative' talking about this and he claims that two other countries - South Korea and one other produce the special blend and export it here. So that explains why the local refineries don't just charge whatever the traffic will bear - they are price capped by the price of the imported gasoline.

I have no idea how high it will go before people rebel at the ballot box or even if we can anymore. How high would the price of gas have to be before you quit your job, sell your home and move?

Trump could announce that if Iran forms a completely new government it would necessitate a reset on our diplomatic relationship - perhaps even free trade / zero tariff until they regain stability.
