More Somali Piracy: In Ohio, Somalis Are Defrauding the State Home Health Care System for $250,000 Per Year "Caring" for Phantom "Aged Parents"

Once again, the system has been set up so that all you have to do is submit the paperwork and wait a week for your rubber stamp.

A welfare program was enacted, supposedly, to pay people to stay at home and provide care for their disabled elderly relatives. Whose existence and infirmity, I'm sure, was "proven" by simple box-checks.

5 Hi all! This lack of oversight seems to happen in blue areas. I know that people who try to get food stamps here complain about the process, I guess because it isn’t just rubber stamped. You have to have an interview, you have to upload documents regarding income, they stop by the house you list as an address to check who is living there. I wonder if that is just our county, though.

Those places need to apply a little more grease to the wheel, is all. Kick some back upstairs to the Party Men at the state office and all will be well. Claim a bunch of kids that don't exist to make up the cost of the grease.

It's a laundromat. Taxpayer dollars go in the front door, then the operators pocket most of it and the rest are returned to bureaucrats through the back door.

The only difference between "outrageous, national-news-story fraud" and "routine operations" is whether or not a service is actually rendered at some point.

My problem is I married into a family with a single dad going back to school. So the kids had to forge for themselves, and that meant a lot of microwaveable meals, hamburger helper, hot dogs, ramen.

Our youngest will literally open up the pantry and go, there's no food here, there's just ingredients! Since I like to make things from scratch. So our definitions of "food" are complete opposites. If they have to do more than stand at a stove with a hamburger helper box mix and frozen ground turkey thawing in the microwave for a half hour, it's too much work.

Since we both work full time, and I'm trying to lighten my mental load, there's days where dinner is "you're on your own," and dinner for them is ramen. But I've at least taught them to add protein, veg, and extra herbs and spices to it that are healthy.

My father was totally bedridden for his last 5yrs. At home. Medicare paid for Home Health Care which was a RN for bloodwork only, and reporting to the MD. He then was on Hospice the last 2yrs with the same amt of physical care: bloodwork only. Providing adult diapers and basics. NOT assistance.

His daily care was by sitters 8hrs/day that came from his long-term life insurance payments (not Medicare). When that capped, my mother bought out a contract to pay a sitter out of pocket his last year during the day. He physically could not get out of bed at night, and my mother was there as well as one brother. He slept through the night.

Medicare Part B will pay for some equipment:hospital beds, oxygen, etc. You pay 20% after deductible.

Medicare WILL NOT pay for sitters or people at the bedside. Even with Hospice, there will be visits, but not 24hr care.

So this report is more than simple fraud, it is a lie. There are no patients benefitting. None.

Children and the elderly play at the heartstrings. Someone figured this out for fraud.

There are a lot of assumptions with being able to turn those ingredients into something when no stove or oven exists, or a 5 year old needs to make something. In those cases, an easy to heat up meal is better than nothing, but those meals aren’t all created equal. Finding the most nutritious way to eat in whatever the circumstances should be the goal.

I did a bunch of charity work dropping food and clothing in the KY part of Appalachia about 3 years ago. Most had ovens underneath a ton of who knows what, but there were some with nothing but plastic utensils and a hot plate. I remember one shack / shed that was so neat, but the floor was dirt. They had a stove. Same with Baltimore, but those circumstance were more young kids having to fend for themselves.

Ironically enough if you're a fraudster it's very easy. If you're an honest, conscientious, law-abiding citizen with a legitimate disability, it can take years to grind your way through the system, and you still may get nothing or a fraction of what you should get.

Ah. I am only used to how the state of FL functions as well as the pure hell on earth my mother went through in MS to provide for my father. Fortunately they had long term life insurance, that paid for sitters if not used in assisted living.

I do hope the neighbor does "care" for her mother who provides her checks.

In a state out West where we are it was the same. Medicare paid for not much of anything but partial payment on a wheelchair for my MIL. Both of our parents got long-term life insurance, so nothing came out of their savings. We were lucky.

So this "care" must be in Dim run states that I am not familiar with. $20/hr for not doing much (and,I guess? 24/7) is a petty good gig.

Our long-term life insurance is our house, I guess. My husband decided we were not going to get what our parents bought into when it was reasonably cheap...it is not now. My MIL's paid for sitters as well as assisted living.
