The Morning Rant: The Fall Of Iran?

punk-monkey.jpg

How many times have we heard that the Mad Mullahs are teetering on the brink, and will be driven out of Iran by THE PEOPLE?

And how many times have we been disappointed?

Sure, Obama had a lot to do with the failure of The Green Movement in 2009, and his convenient $400,000,000 payoff to the Mullahs in 2016 probably helped them retain power. And of course the Grand Poobahs of the EU have no particular interest in a free Iranian people when the Mullahs are buying their technology and selling them oil. And let us not forget the desire of the Bien Pensants for a powerful Iran as a counterbalance to those filthy Jews in Israel. No matter that Iran also funds terrorism throughout the world and is directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocents, and indirectly responsible for hundreds of thousands more. Oh, they have their pet resistance movements, in particular the NCRI, whose leader wears a hijab! Amazing that it is the symbol of repression in Iran, but Europe loves them some hijabs, so...

In a sane world there would be an armored column driving toward Tehran while the air was filled with bombs destroying every nuclear and security facility in Iran. And the world would have driven Hamas and Hezbollah and the Houthis and their Iraqi proxies out of their stolen countries.

But we don't live in a sane world that values self determination and freedom. So expecting the Iranian people to be successful in their desire to free themselves from the vile, murderous Mullahs without Western help is long on hope and short on reality.

Iranian protesters clash with security forces as tear gas fills Tehran streets amid nationwide unrest

Protests escalated across Iran on Monday as demonstrators confronted security forces in Tehran and Mashhad, with authorities deploying tear gas amid strikes and street clashes, according to reports.

An Iranian opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, reported that a large crowd of demonstrators marched along Jomhouri (Republic) Street before moving into nearby areas, including Naser Khosrow Street and Istanbul Square in Tehran.

Except...there is a wild card, and his name is President Donald Trump. Will the President take a public stand in support of this nascent popular uprising? Will he back it up with concrete actions? Will he mobilize his new friends in the Arab world to confront Iran?

With Trump's and America's support, unlike in years past, it is possible that the Iranian -- or perhaps we should call them Persian -- people will have the opportunity to do what they could not do since the heady few months after the fall of the Shah. And Iran is weaker than it has been in a very long time, with Israel destroying Iranian proxies on its borders, and carefully creating security bulwarks against Iran.

But they still have to deal with the comprehensive internal security apparatus that the Mullahs have assiduously created over the last 45 years. It is brutal, cruel, and all-encompassing, and unless the collapse occurs very rapidly (see: Romania), there is the possibility of horrendous death and destruction as the Mullahs lash out against their subjects.

Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson will be despondent if the Mullahs fall, but that might be the best part of the whole thing!

Iran has the benefit of being funded under the table by both the US and the Europeans.
It is apparently a really good place to launder money. The Clintons are rumored to have run a lot of cash in and out of there, for example.

Meh. Double-meh. I don't see why the Iranian Muslims are any different than any other Muslims in terms of yearning not to be free, but to be supplicant to a poisonous political theology that manifests itself on Earth in favoring oppressive, tyrannical regimes.

How many times have we tried "nation building" or trying to "bring Democracy" to Muslim savages who want neither? The West has been trying to do this for at least 60 years. 100% failure rate. Why should Iran be different this time?

It takes a certain depth of character in order to be self regulating and be positively engaged in a high-trust society.

That is why totalitarianism has been the rule since expulsion from The Garden.

Even the Jews demanded of God and Samuel to give them a king despite the clear warnings of what that would look like.

Apparently slavery wasn't a problem so that they could be "just like all of the other nations".

So I don't want to hear about Judeo-Christian ethics in the foundation of this country, it was the printing press, guns and Calvinism that created the American Exception or as Ronaldus Magnus opined "the shining city on the hill".

Authoritarianism is the universal rule.

Even the afterlife is pure totalitarianism.

We have strong family ties to California, even though both our sons fled, and I lived my entire adult life after college here. I want to stay and fight but it seems futile. NYT, Jun 1975, U.S. Plans to Sell 3 Submarines To Iran for Use in Indian Ocean

The United States has committed itself to help Iran in the modernization of her navy, which is the largest among those of the Persian Gulf nations. The Iranian Government has stated that the mission of the submarine force would bed “antisubmarine warfare surveillance and protection in the Arabian Sea and the approaches to the Strait of Hormuz,” which leads into the Persian Gulf.

Rear Adm. Robert J. Hanks told a House Armed Services subcommittee that the submarines would also he used for training Iranian antisubmarine warfare forces.

Iran will purchase three Tang‐class submarines, a streamlined, deep‐diving, relatively fast submarine that was built after World War II. ...
---
Two submarines, the USS Trout (SS-566) and USS Wahoo (SS-565), were prepared at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in the late 1970s for transfer to Iran for the Imperial Iranian Navy.

The U.S. had also provided extensive naval and military training to Iran in the 1970s before the revolution including specialized F-14 Tomcat pilot training, support for the Imperial Iranian Navy (IIN), and much more.

Persia originated from the historical region of Persis (modern-day Fars Province in southwestern Iran), where the Iranian-speaking Persian people settled, becoming the heartland of powerful ancient empires (Achaemenid, Parthian, Sasanian) that dominated Western Asia for centuries before the area was officially renamed Iran in 1935

Newsom dropped the state's lawsuit against Trump for cutting funding to the train to nowhere. That's widely assumed to mean he didn't want anyone finding out where the tens of billions that went into that program went.

If they're naturalized, they can be denatured.

From AI:
While naturalized U.S. citizens generally cannot be deported because they are citizens, the government
can initiate a legal process called denaturalization to revoke citizenship if it was obtained fraudulently, such as through lies about past crimes or hiding material facts on the application, which then makes them eligible for deportation. This process is rare, requires a high burden of proof ("clear, convincing, and unequivocal evidence"), and focuses on fraud during naturalization, not usually crimes committed after becoming a citizen, though serious post-naturalization offenses can be grounds for revocation

Whoever expects Tucker to be anything other than a show host and part time pundit is simply being silly. He has never demonstrated intellectual consistency, learning, or even self reflection. Fuentes the Fag or Candace Ovens rate even less. Being able to put out agit prop on Social Media is no indication of much of anything going on inside their skulls. Essentially they are the cotton candy of conspiracy theories and Fuentes at the very least shows signs of being an op directed at splitting MAGA over Jews and other issues.

It might be more accurate to say the position is better described as Israel having undue influence over U.S. policy.

Some might call that kowtowing, but it should be possible for people who support U.S. interventions in the Middle East to recognize there's a spectrum here: All the way from the actual Jew haters, to people who think we focus more attention than is good for us on that region of the world.

I'd rather we get out of the ME completely, but that has more to do with the fact that OUR politicians are on a spectrum from complete incompetents to complete evil.

Let's say Trump goes out and states "we love the great, luxurious people of Iran, and America has your backs! Stand up for truth, justice, and the Persian Way."

The mullahs would laugh it off. They would have received the full text of that speech from WH aides before it was given, and our foreign service spooks would have already told them "don't worry about this guy. Everything he says is bullshit; America has YOUR backs, fellas. There might be some strikes, but just sit tight. We've got this."

And the rubes in Iran would believe that speech, and they'd get out in the streets, and then the IRGC would wade through them with simple axes, just like last time.

The choice at that point would be to call the State/CIA/Ayatollah bluff and go for large-scale military intervention to support the protests (unacceptable to Trump's base, and possibly disastrous) or back down and leave the protesters to get chopped up (what will actually happen).

Trump would be wise to say little or nothing here.

That doesn't count people just...going back. Packing up the car in Texas and driving back into Mexico with a quick wave at the border guards as they get into the colonialist Spanish state.

I've seen anecdotes of births in Texas hospitals being down 50% this year. Census data for the state says that births in TX are majority white for the first time in years this year.

Those drug boats from Venezuela Trump is blowing up aren't headed to Spain. And despite the whines of the perpetually aggrieved and stupid, trying to stop the flow of drugs and crime from cartels into the US hasn't worked with the good old bi-partisan policies for decades.

The idea that the US, aka The Great Satan, doesn't have a domestic concern with the country that has been threatening to nuke us for decades is just stupid.

311 Dude, God has complete control of our lives already.

There is a lot of daylight between "control" and "ordains".

A favorite passage of mine comes from the end of 1 Kings where a little known prophet Micaiah is brought before king Ahab to prognosticate the invasion of Ramoth-gilead.

Micaiah states that he saw the throne room of God where the Almighty and His hosts were deciding what to do with Ahab. One spirit announces a plan to put a lying spirit in the mouths of Ahan's counselors, which the LORD of Hosts grants the spirit to go do.

Ultimately God got His way; "complete control" certainly needs some nuance to account for this historical narrative.

Back when the Embassy was taken, I was on a planning team looking at what it would take to go there.
I came away with the knowledge that Iran is an EFFING BIG place and getting there would not be easy. Getting there in any numbers to sustain combat operations would take at least six months of buildup...probably closer to a year. And in too many places you'd be restricted to roads as crossing the desert is not an option. There are hundreds of square miles of desert that has a two-foot crust of hardpan covering rivers of flowing sand and mud beneath. Deadly for armor.

Israel is a parliamentary democracy, not a monarchy.

The state's system of government is a democratic republic with a president who serves as the ceremonial head of state and a prime minister who is the head of government.

Israel does not have a single, formal written constitution, but its governmental system and principles are defined by several Basic Laws enacted by the Knesset.

The Basic Laws are available through Twenty-Fifth Knesset, Fourth Session, Winter Assembly webpages.

He's a pompous fraud with a largely fake audience. No critical mass of people on the Right will ever coalesce around that silly, barely-closeted homosexual.

So if you want to whip up Jew-hate, he's not your guy.

And if you want to tamp it down before it becomes as big a problem as it is on the Left, don't make it about him, because while you're looking at that particular target, those people will actually coalesce around someone who is serious, and also not a gay Mexican clickbaiter.

424 Actually, in the halls of foreign policy wonks, the counter-balance of Iran was to Saudi Arabia. We then supported SA to keep "balance" in the region. Because when this mess started, everybody was against Israel; they didn't need another one. In recent years, however, it does seem to have shifted, as SA and Jordan became less enamoured with trying to destroy Israel and more interested in being regular nations. Iran did not, and so they thrived as that "counter-balance."
