It's a single-lane, 130-foot span of galvanized steel, functional and utilitarian, the kind of structure motorists cross without a second thought. But according to Eugene Sobecki, director of national sales and military business development for Acrow — the New Jersey-based company that designed and supplied it — this modular bridge that was recently put up is a direct descendant of one of World War II's most consequential engineering innovations: the Bailey Bridge.Cool story. Before that, two distilleries, JJ Pfister Distilling Co. of Sacramento, California and Devils River Distillery of San Antonio, Texas filed in May. House Spirits Distillery of Portland, Oregon, filed for bankruptcy in April. Two more companies declared bankruptcy in March: Boston Harbor Distillery of Boston, Massachusetts, and Lee Spirits Co. of Monument, Colorado.Headline says "major distillers", but those all seem like smaller craft distillers to me. Regardless, the industry is definitely going through changing times. Consumer demand is changing and tariffs are also a factor. Is the bourbon boom of the early 21st century over? Perhaps. @bennyjohnson 1:19 GMT - News from the FBI on rampant Somali Fraud in Minnesota
Things are about to get much worse for the Somali fraud criminals and their enablers. I just spoke with a senior FBI source who tells me that the agency has surged investigative criminal units into Minneapolis and predicts “public takedowns” of Somali fraudsters soon. The official told me they are keenly aware of Nick Shirley’s investigation and it “tracks” with ongoing FBI criminal work in the area. “Billions in stolen federal dollars through fraudulent businesses. These are serious federal crimes which may result in severe fines, decades of prison sentences and potential deportations.” The official directed me to the recent 78 criminal indictments against Somali fraudsters for stolen COVID payments as an example of what is to come. ...etc https://tinyurl.com/4v3dxujd Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at December 28, 2025 10:23 PM (5uRA0) 79

I wonder if the old news was just as biased, but "we" did not have the means to discover the facts, and we were mostly "blissfully ignorant". Evening, all,
Just finished watching an odd little 1946 film noir on Movies!, Deadline at Dawn. It's based on a Cornell Woolrich story -- not sure if it was a novel or a short work -- and with script by Clifford Odets. It's a delight to see a young Susan Hayward as she was beginning her climb to stardom, plus Paul Lukas and a raft of other character actors who etch a small portrait of a summer night in a New York with strangely empty streets. A standout bit features a janitor who rushes his cat to a vet, only to find she has died of eating a chicken bone. He closes the carrier, stands up slowly, says in a dull voice, "She was my only companion," and shuffles away into the night. Affecting stuff. But again, what's the use if we don't see perp walks? Yes, I know it's only been a couple of days, but the Feds have known about a zillion of prosecutable offenses for decades. What makes this any different?
I know I'm being pessimistic, but I started this year feeling so hopeful. Trump was going to be President, Elon was going to clean government house, and my kids and grandkids would experience the America in which i grew up. Yet despite being the minority, the Democrats have stymied just about everything. And I really don't foresee much progress in 2026. In general -
- The islands with active volcanos are sinking. - The older islands have landslides and otherwise erode and rebound. IIRC, the Hawaii islands are created as the continental plate slides over a "hot spot" that builds a new island, and the island eventually moves away to the west, where it erodes away. ID is set to try to pass a law essentially adopting 8USC 1324 (the fed law criminalizing aiding/sheltering illegal aliens). It was defeated once already. Prominent in the defeat effort? GOP figures, Catholic bishops.

IIRC, the Hawaii islands are created as the continental plate slides over a "hot spot" that builds a new island, and the island eventually moves away to the west, where it erodes away. This, of course, is not exactly a speedy process.

Had a crazy experience today. My grandmother had a brother that was much older than her. She and her twin sister were born here, but went back to italy when they were 1 years old. She also had 2 other sisters. Her brother stayed in America, and fought in ww1. My grandmother came back when she was 27, her twin stayed in italy. Not sure how the brother had drifted away, but I didn't even know about him. Anyway, the grand daughter of one of my grandmother's other sisters was planning a trip to italy and was screwing around on ancestry to see if there were any relatives left in italy. Zip, nadda. BUT, she finds the family line of my grandmother's brother who had a grand daughter. She's from my generation, been in texas for a few decades, moved back east recently and had zero knowledge of any family whatsoever on her father's and grandfather's side of the family. We met her today at my aunt's house. My aunt decided to throw a huge family dinner and invited a shit ton of this girl's previously unknown family. She was blown away. My father's cousins were giving her the whole family history, and some had known her grandfather when they were young. She was beyond thrilled. She missed a lot

Nick Shirley is awesome. He and that guy are a class of their own and should put "news" to shame. Yet they won't. Excellent couture! My outfit for NYE will be the same as any eve! 248 If the GOP wants to win the mid terms
It doesn't. And everyone is in complete denial about how bad the midterms are going to be. Deservedly so. The GOP, as opposed to Trump, hasn't earned anyone's vote. And Don ain't on the ticket. Posted by: Get your pipin' hot DOOM today! at December 28, 2025 11:49 PM (6l4sY) As it stands right now, this is absolutely true. However, the economic plan that Trump set in motion starting on Liberation Day, continuing with the OBBB, and set up with DOGE is all going to come together starting next year/next week. It will become obvious to the weak sisters in the GOP that Trump really is the strong horse. We began to see that with the Q3 GDP and inflation numbers. Don isn't on the ticket, but everyone knows that he is. That's why he's doing a midterm convention to remind everyone what's at stake. By the time June comes around, everyone will know that it's Morning In America once again. I wasn't worried about the 2024 elections for a nanosecond, and I'm not worried about the midterms either. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at December 28, 2025 10:23 PM Right. I'll believe it when I see it. None of these fraudsters ever receive any of the punishment they deserve. And because of that, the fraud continues. No one went to prison for the mortgage lending fraud that led to 2008 economy crash. No one went to prison for all the fraud and lies of the Plandemic. No one went to prison for the rigged and stolen 2020 election. No one has faced any consequences for the black op during the January 6, 2021 protest/rally. No one went to prison for the 10+ million illegals allowed into USA over past 4 years. Until every single Somali is deported, Walz is in prison and Ilhan Omar has her citizenship revoked and is deported, none of this matters a whit. Exposing fraud means nothing. Reviewing last night's ONT, saw some comments I'd missed.
I wrote: I have never watched Die Hard. And I doubt I ever will. I am pretty sick of the memes, though. Beat it to death hard. BarelyScaryMary replied: I haven't seen Die Hard in years. I remember liking it, though. Bruce Willis was always enjoyable and Alan Rickman was a delightful villain. Thanks, Mary, for the recommendation. I do like both actors, and I hear the movie is good, just not (usually) that into "action" flicks. Maybe because if I have time for a movie, it'll be with MiladyJo. I liked London has Fallen. Then someone posing as Harumpf Squared replied to me: I don't like this thing I've never seen, and I don't like you continuing to like it either. As the Bart Simpson meme goes, "What an odd thing to say." I had no complaint about the movie itself; sure don't care what others like. I get a little weary of the glut of It's a Christmas Movie memes. That said, one I thought clever and amusing: at the Council of Nicea, St. Nicholas slaps Arius because he insists Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. Heh. Congressional Republicans should definitely campaign on the hard, reliable work done by Roberts and Barret.
Posted by: Methos at December 29, 2025 12:42 AM (vSvIl) If you want to ignore the positive I can’t stop you. Posted by: Opinion fact at December 29, 2025 12:43 AM (KDPiq) Are you retarded? The 'positive' you want to run with I've responded to sarcastically. And I feel like I'm insulting everyone here by explaining it, and some of them don't deserve it. The SC isn't actually reliable. At all. They still look for excuses to back up the D judges where they feel they can get away with it. More importantly, they're a different branch of government, that House Republicans in particular have no influence on them. The lazy shits in the senate can try to get some mileage on SC picks, but House pubbies need to point elsewhere for some example of doing anything at all. I don't know, maybe they could pass the full repeal of obamacare they had no problem voting for like 50 times before Trump was elected. For example. IIRC, the Hawaii islands are created as the continental plate slides over a "hot spot" that builds a new island, and the island eventually moves away to the west, where it erodes away. This, of course, is not exactly a speedy process.
Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at December 28, 2025 11:00 PM (GjEvj) That's right. In terms of geologic time, the Hawaiian islands are "ephemeral". Global "warming" has nothing to do with it. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 29, 2025 01:12 AM (8zz6B) 338

RE: the homicide chart
In terms of total homicides, Chicago ranks first with more than 800 homicides, followed by Los Angeles and Houston. Despite the high totals, these cities have relatively lower rates due to their large populations. --- Remember what the realtor said; location, location, location. Somalians may be scum of the earth by most accounts, but what can one say about their enablers in the U.S.A.? Jeeze Louise. There’s a non-trivial percentage of completely bat shit insane MFers in government.
Posted by: Common Tater Yes, I can say that from my general experience, most of them are dumber than dog shit. I was down at the Franklin County Courthouse (Columbus, Ohio) with my then teen-aged son, over a legal scrape he was in. There was a Somali there that looked like an absolute moron, no exaggeration. My guess is that some slick operators taught them this. I would also guess that a lot of the fraud money has gotten kicked back to Democrat party apparatchniks. And then laundered elsewhere. There was a massive paper smash, 50M digital ounces traded in 15 minutes before China opened. Price is back above $80… Now we wait for London's reaction with LBMA-silver-drain continuing to threaten their ability to operate in 2026 followed by New York's ongoing insatiable demand for physical. Also will be watching more closely into rumors of a Fed bailout of a bank that was forced to close out a short position... if there was indeed some sort of emergency overnight liquidity injection -- for now, just rumors, but for the banks that are heavily short in Europe or in the U.S., it might have been better to be liquidated first than last in line. The losses are turning into the tens of billions (unrealized) and growing. God forbid this keeps shooting past $100/ounce over the coming week(s) and even higher. The faster this goes, the faster it blows... implodes! A silver swan event for the Western banking, financial system in the making? --- Or a ruse. \ Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at December 29, 2025 01:29 AM (5uRA0) 348

If you want a reliable predictor of how the Robert's Court will rule... just figure out which ruling protects or expands the power of the Courts. Even the BIG YUGE Conservative win when they ruled that Court's did not have to just accept the Reasons for the Administration passing Regulations, which is supposed to slow down the regulatory state... just put that decision into the Hands of a Judge, instead of Government Experts.
