The Morning Rant-CBDless Edition

Mis Hum Rant.jpg

Mr. CBD is on a remote scouting mission. Something about Bourbon, snails, maple syrup and unsalted butter.

Lately life has been happening here in the Frozen Tundra and current events and politics has taken a back seat. I know there are multiple problems around the world including here in the Good Old USA.

For the first time in my *life* the USA has a president who is not a politician. Of course that would be Donald J. Trump. The nearest example of a president who was not a full-time, life-time politician was Ronald Reagan.

This country is poised to become a bigger and better light on the shining hill. However, the GOP Stupid Party and the new "Pundits" are in the process of soiling their beds and stepping on some type of appendage.

The first two years of Trump 1.0 and Trump 2.0 could have been terrific legislative sessions. Just imagine every Trump Executive Order becoming codified law? True, those laws could have been reversed with a Democrat Communist administration. But, it would have been work and would have slowed down their stupidity.

Yes the Stupid Party and Paul Ryan had how many years to draft a better health insurance plan? It was easy to piss and moan about it. But, they had no intention of repealing it let alone come up with something better.

Now 14 years after that Affordable Health Care Act Obamacare Bullshit is still forefront in the Washington DC fight between the Commies and the Estupidos. In the long run the Commies will win.

We know the Commies claim they love and cherish democracy. We know it's a lie. But the likes of John Thune and Gary Johnson would rather let the Commies walk over them when it comes to the silent filibuster and judicial blue slip shenanigans to name just a few.

Johnson should be leading impeachments against the sitting federal magistrates and judges who have been playing whack a mole with Trump's agenda. Granted, the senate will not convict them. But Judas Fvcking Priest, fight. Expose the leftist judges.

And that is why you have President Trump.

Now, we got rid of the "pundits" such as Bill Kristol, Rick "PenisHead" Wilson, Charlie Sykes with the 2015 Trump run - 2016 Trump election.

But, nature hates a vacuum and now we have Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro to name just a few who have replaced the Never-Trumpers. I'm not sure what we should call this group, perhaps NutCasesTM But whatever it is called, I want to be part of the Never-NutCases.

Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes can go and have their Third Reich love fest without me and the Conservative movement.

Candace, no one. And I mean no one cares about the genitalia of a French woman. And the ONLY person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk has been arrested.

Ben Shapiro, I support Israel. I always have and always will. But, the USA interests come first and should always come first. We are $38 trillion in debt. We need to put America First not Israel First.

I live in a high gas sales tax state. So many of you may have seen lower prices. But, I'm enjoying the $2.67 gallon gas. I've seen the grocery prices coming down. It looks like prescription drug prices are going to come down significantly.

Mike Johnson, John Thune, govern! You have 9-10 months to make significant inroads to restore common sense. Mike Johnson, John Thune, (I won't ask MTG or Mitch McConnell for example) Are you ready and willing to run with the MAGA platform or is your new leadership, same as the old leadership?

And lastly to the Nut-Cases, shut your mouths. Take your fingers away from your key boards. And take some time to read and comprehend President Reagan's 11th Commandment. Take your problems behind closed doors.

*Remember I'm only 29 years old*

3 As long as there's the filibuster, I don't think conservatives are ever going to be able to govern or reform really anything.

And the next time the Dems have both houses of Congress, the entire filibuster will be going away. Harry Reid got rid of it for judicial nominees, and no one even cared.

GOP should nuke it now and get some things passed.

I disagree, but the manner of reforms have to change, and it's a bit sad. (It's happening already) Congress is already mostly irrelevant, it will become completely irrelevant, much like happened to the old Roman Senate. They will sit in the building and talk, but it's just kabuki theater. All reform and control will come through taking charge of the bureaucracy, the military, and the courts. Dems figured that out before our side did, but this is our chance to take it all back.

19 Obamacare is like one of those shoe factories in the old Soviet Union. The one metric for productivity was "How many shoes did you produce." So, the factory managers would meet the metric by producing nothing but one shoe size, size 6, to meet the quota.

Obamacare has one metric. "Maximize the number of people insured." Quality of care .... pffft. Cost of insurance ... pffft, just subsidize it to meet the metric.

And that's why health care sucks.

=====

The most important part:

Congress is mostly irrelevant.

They do political theater and almost nothing else. The actual power of the federal government has lied with the executive for a very long time.

"Oh, no! Congress will impeach Trump if Democrats win in 2026!"
"And the Senate won't convict, all while Trump runs the executive as he wants, deporting millions of people, culling regulations, and prosecuting criminal activity by his enemies."

53 Nick Fuentes is making a stir with the younger crowd because he is speaking to people who know no one who fought in WW2, it is as dead to them as the Civil War was to you when growing up. As such, and since the young white straight male has been called a Nazi for their entire lifetimes they are taking the label and running with it. At a certain point, if you gotta be a Nazi, you might as well be cool, as a Nazi.

Expecting a Gen Z or Gen Alpha to have an emotional reaction to the Holocaust or WW2 is like expecting a Boomer to have an emotional reaction to the Maine, or the Civil War. They look at footage of Nazis and see the Hugo Boss uniforms, and the confidence of young fighting men fighting for a cause they believe in, and think "Hey - the skulls and lightning bolt insignias are kinda cool, I wish I were one of those guys. I wonder if that is the 'White Privilege I am supposed to have."

Shipbuilding in the US sucks. Unless we're talking submarines or, maybe, aircraft carriers.

It's supposed to be built by a Korean-owned shipyard here in the US. That could make a BIG difference.

I think it's just a continuation of the LEGEND Class Coast Guard cutters being built by Ingalls in Mississippi.
Doing this keeps the production line hot and doesn't create a delay for design and development.

The cutters are about the size of a frigate so instead of being painted white and going to the Coast Guard they'll be painted gray and go to the Navy.
Put some missiles and laser weapons on board and designate it as a cruiser.

The CG has a cutter the size of a battleship?

71 As long as there's the filibuster, I don't think conservatives are ever going to be able to govern or reform really anything.

And the next time the Dems have both houses of Congress, the entire filibuster will be going away. Harry Reid got rid of it for judicial nominees, and no one even cared.

GOP should nuke it now and get some things passed.
Posted by: Leupold at December 23, 2025 10:58 AM (eIzlH)

The filibuster isn't going away. People have been saying that for forty years. It's too useful and neither side in the Senate really gives a shit about going on the record as changing things.

Let's assume for a moment that we do get rid of the filibuster to "get some things passed". Every one of those things will be undone as soon as the Democrats have power again. Day 1. The country will, at best, be whipsawed between radically different visions and, at worst, they'll settle for an EU-like bureaucratic hellhole in an effort to have some consistency.

1. Create a dependent underclass that is the majority of all people
2. Make sure the dependent underclass is dependent on the government
3. Make sure the government on which the underclass depends is controlled by you, and therefore by proxy the underclass depends on you
4. Enthusiastically support majority rule, looting and killing the minority to support your position by transferring a small portion of the loot the majority
5. Keep it up until there is nothing left to loot

97 How much of that $38 Trillion might be considered odious debt?

Regardless, that won’t be “paid off” or whatever. That isn’t how government financing works. “Reserve currency” status of the US dollar may well have been a curse. When government spending ended gold convertibility, the dollar was allowed to “float”, and certain security arrangements were made with respect to crude oil being priced, purchased and settled in dollars worldwide. Thus the “petrodollar”, a huge market for dollars outside the US.

I’m not smart enough to know if all those dollars could somehow return to the US. If so, Katy bar the door.

Some sort of debt repudiation, re-valuation + monetary inflation is baked into this cake. The real issue is how the government plans to continue to make timely interest payments on the debt. It will continue to eat ever larger portions of tax revenue until it subsumes everything.

Do they have a plan for that? Do they act like they have a plan for that? They act like they are looting a corpse. When was the last time a major Democrat or Republican politician or candidate talked about a favorable balance of trade? We are well into fairy tale economics.

Posted by: Common Tater at December 23, 2025 11:22 AM (+/0+/)

It has certain benefits, like being able to outsource inflation. When you're the reserve currency, a lot of it needs to be outside your borders. If you can keep your new emissions (new unbacked credit - I'm looking at you, US federal budget) to at or below the amount of growth in global trade flow that settles in your currency, you get to print money for free by locking up the excess overseas.

What happens when either global trade flow growth fails to offset printing growth, or when trade stops settling in your currency, is "look out below" territory because that money *will* repatriate over time because it has to. Nobody holds worthless money for no reason. If you the reason away, back it comes while it can still buy something.

We've done both. Trade flows are reducing and our punitive actions against Russia broke trust in a uniform reserve currency controlled by a single party.

Absorbing repatriating money is one of the reasons tariffs aren't a bad idea right now, but it's a narrow window.

139 Here's my thing:

Do we need...more laws?

Or is the problem that we have a shit ton of laws that the powerful simply don't enforce?

What's another law, "This time, we're serious," going to do? The problem in America isn't the law, it's the enforcement side.

Far too many, and too many contradictions. Add in regulatory codices (as they have the force of law in many cases) and it gets even worse.

There is one question every aspirational Draco needs to ask himself before uttering, "there ought to be a law," which is "is this thing worth killing someone over?" That *is,* like it or not, the final point of any law: comply or face enforcement, resist enforcement and die."

Is it important to kill a man over? No? Then it shouldn't be a law.

True, but I meant that the country had already gone through years of social security, Roosevelt's alphabet agencies taking over the economy and wartime demands which accustomed people to a large, intrusive government that would, in theory, protect your money and help provide for your old age.

Ike was the closest thing to a laissez-faire prexy since Coolidge, but there was never going to be any political appetite or will to roll back the New Deal.

164 Eisenhower was the first to hire Madison avenue advertising to craft a modern style political campaign.

The popular image of course is a nice, grandfatherly figure. FDR, Marshall, Bradley, and Ike abandoned millions behind the Iron Curtain, sent back thousands of refugees back to the Soviet Union to certain death. All in efforts to appease “Uncle Joe” Stalin. They wanted assurances he would invade Japan. Approx 20k American POWs held by the Soviets were never heard from again. “They just write it off, Jerry” applied to troops.

They could have ended the war in Europe 6 months earlier, but instead they let the Soviets take Berlin, which was surrounded by Soviet controlled territory. “Cold War” resulted in millions of deaths. China went communist. Korean invasion. Hungary, Yugoslavia, Cuba, Viet Nam, etc.

They “liberated” Europe from one dictator and let a worse one take over, and spent another 50 years fighting that. How stupid is that?

It'd take 5 years to design, another 5 of redesign, and a decade to build the first one. Presuming it isn't canceled by the Democrats before it sees the light of day.

Shipbuilding in the US sucks. Unless we're talking submarines or, maybe, aircraft carriers.

There's part of me that wishes the Trump class would just be a mass of guns and missiles. A VLS for Tomahawk cruise missiles, about 6 CWIS and a shitload of 5"/54 guns for shore bombardment, at least 20. It'd be like shooting a gigantic, full-auto Carl Gustav. The only problem would be keeping enough ammo in the magazines to fight anything more than a short engagement.

Minor quibble. That’s not investing, that’s currency speculation. An investment by definition is something other than money, expected or hoped to provide a return. Stocks of course, rental income.

Paper currencies are not ordinarily a wise way to hold wealth. The US dollar has been better than most.

Note the government reneged on gold bonds paying interest, and made holding gold illegal. Only two other countries ever outlawed gold. Take a guess who they were?

Greenspan, before he went over to the dark side, wrote an excellent treatise in 1966 entitled “Gold and Economic Freedom”. In short, in the absence of a monetary standard, it is impossible for anyone to protect their wealth. As we are witnessing now.

They are whores who say what they say for likes, clicks, and money. They have no convictions. They go where the money is. Hell, Tucker ain't even trying to hide that he's bought and paid for by Qatar. CO hopes to one day be that bought.

I don't pay attention to any of them. The more anyone talks about them -- even if it's to say "oh no she didn't!" -- is giving them what they want. In their world, there ain't so such thing as bad publicity.

Allegations that Tucker Carlson is being funded by Qatar stem from Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) filings revealing that the Qatari government hired the firm Lumen8 Advisors for $180,000 per month to conduct public relations, including arranging an interview between Carlson and Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on the topic of a potential war with Iran.

274 Revert the filibuster.

Just as you do not call a man who puts balloons in their shirt a woman, and just as you do not call a deer a horse, you should not call the blue slip a filibuster.

Make these tyranical geezers take the floor and talk and actually filibuster. They certainly like to talk when cameras are around. With the different CSPAN channels, they've got an audience. No

The filibuster was a time-honored tradition, not a procedural hurdle to move the goalposts. If you feel strongly that an invader from Germany (at least the last stop prior to a 1st class flight to the USA) should be free to stab old ladies in the eye and young ladies in the *****, then stand up and speak out. And do it for hours, so you can change the hearts and minds of other congresscritters so that, they too, will want to stab women young and old.

Or, maybe just reevaluate your life decisions. Maybe even retire from the Senate.

But make the filibuster a filibuster. They want to halt progress on a bill or an appointment, make them work for it. And that goes for ALL, regardless if they're on the right, the left, or dangling off the left cliff.

The CCP must really have the US over a barrel if Trump is surrendering our university developed tech underwritten by the tax payer to our mortal enemy.

Given the absolute slop that is the main product of non STEM Us Universities, I would argue that the system is already crippled and crushing it under financial losses (WTF happen to the half trillion in aggregate university endowment money) would be in this nation's best interests.

As much as I agree with him in regards to the commie cocksuckers, his rep for battlefield aggressiveness and the offensive is based on the fact that he wasn't facing German heavy tank formations like the Limeys were. He ran rampant right up until he hit the prepared fortifications at Metz, where the Germans stopped him cold. After that, he had to slowly grind his way through.

Indiana has earned national recognition as the first-ever “State of the Year,” the Washington Post Editorial Board said, citing policies and decisions it called worthy of emulation in 2025.

The Post highlighted Indiana’s redistricting fight, where 21 Republican senators resisted months of pressure from the Trump White House and Gov. Mike Braun to redraw congressional maps, a move the board says could influence other states.

New Hampshire and California were runners-up. New Hampshire eased housing pressures and expanded education savings accounts. California got credit for housing and infrastructure but was criticized for mid-decade redistricting.

With respect to Israel, I would point out that the U.S gets a lot of value out of its aid. For example, the Israelis give us a lot of technology and real-world weapons training, as well as improvements. In addition, Israel provides the U.S. with a lot of intel that would take at least five CIAs to create. And who wants five CIAs?
