Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Inflation Rate Falls As Trump Promises a New "Golden Age"I turned off Trump's speech because it made me anxious. He was rushing through the script so fast he tripped over words and didn't emPHAsize key points to drive the message home. But he did hit the points. The speech was about 20 minutes. I think he should have taken maybe 28 minutes to give the speech, adding in emphasis and pauses.Maybe that's why there was stumbling over some words -- because he had just edited it. ... Democrats lead Republicans on the 2026 generic ballot 48 to 45, but a change in prices could convince 74% of them that inflation and costs are no longer a problem, according to a new Echelon Insights poll. Here's the first twenty seconds of the speech. Trump may or may not have had advanced information that today's report on inflation would be a favorable one. (I assume he did.) Not even CNN could spin it. Inflation came in at 2.7%, the lowest in four years -- in other words, the lowest since Biden's policies began driving it sky high -- down 0.3% from the 3.0% mark in September. "Experts" "expected" the inflation rate to be higher than 3%. They expected rising inflation, not falling inflation.

Perfect excuse to repost a tail end comment, ace.
This is from a market and investment watcher. He is arguing that for the moment the rolling average for CPI correlates to the gasoline futures market Tom Luongo (Head Sneetch) @TFL1728 2h So, we finally get a CPI for November and it correlates perfectly with what we should have expected with the drop in gasoline prices. The 4-month rolling avg. of the CPI has correlated directionally with the monthly closing price of gas futures since the run up to COVID. (see chart). With RBOB Gasoline Futures trading @ $1.70 this morning. If that holds through year-end, we're looking at a Dec CPI (YoY) print of 2.3-2.4%. Coming into 2026 we can and should expect gas prices to further attenuate, the CPI to fall well below 2%, if not stall out completely, and wages to grow 3+% given the amount of investment happening. Soon, copper and other tight supply commodities will be the driver of inflation, not gasoline, but we're not there yet. If that poll is even remotely accurate, then we should keep the House. I think given the modern map with so many gerrymandered seats, the Dumocraps need a generic ballot advantage of at least 5-7 points to change control. It's unknown how the new TX gerrymander will play out, and who knows what FL will do. But polls like this are good news. Here's a little anecdotal evidence for you as well. I'm pretty meticulous on groceries (call me boring if you like, but I tend to get the same items each time with minor discrepancies). My last trip had a total about 15% lower than normal.
While I'd like to attribute that to dropping inflation. And, that may be part of it. I tend to think that the lowering fuel prices, dropping regulations, and increase in supply chain shipping (lowering hauling costs) plays a part in that as well. This will be the primary issue in the midterms. So, I'm elated to see visible progress either way. Posted by: Orson at December 18, 2025 12:33 PM (dIske) 45

B. Blockading a nation's ports is a de facto act of war. III. ...there is no III. Posted by: Captain Obvious ====== You would be wrong. If you read the actual orders, it is blockading internationally sanctioned ships from entering or leaving a port. In fact, a seizure order was signed by a federal judge before the tanker was seized and boarded. Those flying without flags or without valid registration have no protections under international law from being boarded and seized or even destroyed and thus cannot claim the protection of a nation at sea. And in the case of Iran, Venezuela, etc., if the nation itself commits violations of international sanctions, then the ships, planes, etc. of that nation can be seized as a matter of international law. Inflation came in at 2.7%, the lowest in four years -- in other words, the lowest since Biden's policies began driving it sky high -- down 0.3% from the 3.0% mark in September.
The problem with this is many LIVs think when politicians talk about inflation its the same as prices. So if Trump solved inflation then prices should go to pre-Biden levels. But that's not how inflation works. Thanks to Trump-enomics prices will increase slowly like they did before Biden, but it won't resolve Biden doubling prices during his regime. MSM has found a way to make it undesirable in the news: Now there will be a-hurting for seniors' banking accounts (erosion of savings from less interest earned) and Colas (causing real purchasing power to shrink, forcing reliance on bank accounts and other assets). If it wasn't Trump, it would not be. "It's the economy, stupid." O was never supposed to win re-election showing us Carville's oft-quoted saying was right in '92 but wrong 20 years later. AI Overview: Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012 despite an economy that was still recovering from the Great Recession, with a 7.9% unemployment rate on Election Day, a rate higher than when he took office. While economic conditions were challenging, voters did not overwhelmingly blame him for the state of the economy, and the trend was perceived as improving. Key factors that contributed to his re-election include: perception of improvement; inherited crisis; empathy and connection; effective campaign strategy, and economic models - which was all BS but for the press behind him and against anyone "R." >The Christian Science Monitor How Obama won in a weak economy: Voters didn't blame him. 11/08/2012 Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at December 18, 2025 12:44 PM (NFX2v) 84

69 "Generic Democrat" always seems to be edging out "Generic Republican" in any congressional poll. Funny how that works.
Posted by: Lady in Black Polls often use the most lenient of standards in doing these sorts of polls. All adults whether they are foreigners residing here legal or illegal, felons barred from voting, and not registered to vote. They usually do not do geographic weighting on selection either for such 'national' polling so using RDD, it can give too much weight to places like CA, NY, IL and less to places like TX or FL. Polls are useful for trend analysis if they use a consistent sampling frame over time but less useful until registered voters and then likely voters screening of samples start appearing in July or so. "Several failed assassination attempts on Trump"? Besides the two we know of, what other ones were there? I believe I have read about the Secret Service investigating a couple of on line threats, and also the DOJ doing at least one prosecution. Do you not think that the murder of the NG female and shooting of her teammate a couple of blocks from the White House would have been an assassination attempt if the gunman could have done it? How long do you think the President could walk around in Seattle or Portland without somebody trying to kill him? A minute perhaps? Only lack of access to him is keeping him alive. Early in the WoT, Capital Hill Blue published an expose that American military personnel were torturing captured jihadis and there source was, according to them, a well vetted national security resource they had worked with for years. Their story fell apart though when in the provided videos the supposed US military members were wearing uniforms made up from random services and eventually they admitted the story was false. But...clearly this was a major propaganda effort. Someone made those videos and tried to get people that looked like US military. And then that was it. No investigation. No revelation of the source. Nothing. Maybe Capital Hill Blue made it up, but I think they were just a friendly source to dump propaganda on. And thanks to Shrub no one did anything about it... Between the end of the 9/11 effects on the economy and the crash in 2008, the economy under Bush was pretty darn good.
But I remember Rush talking about a poll that someone had taken- 1) How are you doing economically? - a large majority said they were doing well. 2) How do you think your neighbors are doing? - a large majority said they thought their neighbors were struggling. Rush talked about the power of the media to shape perceptions - the economy was good, but most people thought the economy was in the dumper, even though they, themselves, were doing just fine. All because of the media doing then exactly what they are doing now. Posted by: 29Victor at December 18, 2025 12:58 PM (0MjtC) 153
About Trump's speech.
We all know he can be warm, funny, engaging. So why would he deliver some fantastic news for the military, something that could be really heartwarming, in that tone? I posit 2 things: 1) Trump has always redirected fire at himself, so that other's don't get attacked. 2) He wanted everyone to focus on the tone. Because: 1) now they are not going to smear the military as "being bought off" by Trump; or "falling for a silly gimmick, 1776." Or worse, "why not the minorities, they're suffering too?" 2) They will ignore the other, just as important part: He has laid out his agenda for the next 11 months; more freedom, more prosperity, more America. And the Dems are going to focus on the tone, how he's wrong, how bad things are. While falling into Step 1: Get the Dems on the wrong side of the issue. The issue is "who is going to fix this?" And whining about Trump's tone answers "not us." Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at December 18, 2025 12:58 PM (HXT0k) 154

You would be wrong. Holy crap this video is amazing and scary at the same time. In it, a guy takes what looks like a selfie video with famous actors from movies we all know and love in a setting that appears to be behind the scenes of that movie.
He turns 180 degrees and he's standing with Linda Hamilton and Arnold, with James Camron in the background as if they're on the T2 set. He turns 180 degrees and he's standing with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil exactly as they looked in the first trilogy as if they're on the Star Wars set. He keeps doing this for several scenes and it all looks perfect and seamless. I'm sure perfectionists and film students could find several glaring issues besides the obvious that these actors don't look like that anymore, but it looks really really good. Well, in the US at least, it triggers a whole lot of power embedded in statutes since at least WWI such as being able to conscript if needed, mucho power to regulate wages and prices including rationing, augmented seizure powers for eminent domain for defense purposes, ability to expel or involuntarily detain persons with the enemy country's nationality without review, seizure power over enemy assets in this and other countries, and so on. There is a reason Congress has not declared war since WWII and Truman in the Korean Conflict considered it briefly then decided against it, in part, because Congress was well aware of executive power increase during war. You're saying obvious things, but your relationship confuses the levels and what an Official Declaration of War is. Actions that occur in war and are "tantamount to war" are not "official declarations" (see the "police actions" of Korea and Viet Nam). Congress can protect its power to declare war by using its power to either confirm the actions of the executive within 90 days of warlike hostilities. If the President does not get his official Declaration of War, within 60 days, he must cease by the War Powers act. Posted by: Axeman at December 18, 2025 01:18 PM (krQz2) 262

In nearly all but one photo I saw of him, and then he's sneering. The poor daughter who found them looks stoned in a lot of photos. The only child who ever looked normal is the son who moved to Texas...he and his wife look normal in the family photos. His smile reaches his eyes. Since Nick was in rehab from age 15yrs, and admitted to smoking pot at age 14yrs (and buying a hooker with his parent's $)...I think those were signs as well. Pot exacerbates schizophrenia when a young teen starts smoking it. If I had to take a wild diagnostic guess, I think that is at least part of his problem, and was made 1000% worse with drug addiction and parental wealth and coddling. Trump sounded like he drank 10 Red Bulls just before giving the speech - it was not his best performance. But I don't think that will matter much over the long haul; how many people actually watched that speech?
What he did accomplish is he reframed the discussion the he is making progress in fixing the disastrous Biden years and has laid the ground work a vibrant economy going forward. Maintaining this framing and having it heard unfiltered by the electorate over the next 12 months is where the battle will be. The Democrats and the Democrat media are going to pull out all the stops to reframe the reframe as an utter failure. Who wins the tussle likely wins the midterms. The real reporting on inflation happened only when Trump got into office. Then people were allowed to know that the prices had gone up ~20% under Biden--not that the Demedia put it that way. Then it was "Trump said he'd bring prices down--what's he doing for that? People are hurting (from the increase that "wasn't happening" throughout the Biden term). there has got to be a better answer than what Vance gave; some conspiracy theories are just that
This is the game the left plays though intentionally. Are chemtrails real? How about Lizard People? Or is the earth flat? But then saying "COVID came from a lab in China" gets lumped in with the top three. Posted by: 18-1 at December 18, 2025 01:30 PM (sKqQm) 304

Unless he blew it all on hookers and coke his net worth has to be $100M+ . He doesn’t need Qatar money.

Re: Cucker Tarlson. Someone in the Administration is obviously is having a lot of fun pulling that naif Cucker's chain. The Cucker War with Venezuela thing reminds me of an old Bloom County story line. Bill the Cat spins a bunch of outlandish lies about the CIA to Bob Woodward while wearing a paper William Casey mask (this was when Woodward's book "Veil" on Casey at the CIA was a thing). Bill: "And then, when I was at CIA we put out a hit on Bruce Springsteen" Woodward: "Wow, this is GREAT!" *scribbles in notebook* Posted by: IllTemperedCur at December 18, 2025 01:31 PM (y9nCu) Posted by: luke skywalker at December 18, 2025 01:32 PM (v3pYe) 308

--- "Affordability" wouldn't even be a topic if the Biden administration hadn't been lying about inflation not happening, or small and temporary. Also if the "Inflation Reduction Artifice" had actually been about reducing inflation. Some of us just have too good of memory to be Democrat voters. The "conservative" catamite crew on Twitter bought into the war with VZ thing hook, line, and sinker. Iowahawk, Baseballhead, Geraghty. etc. Garments were ready to be rendered, the pearls clutched, the testicles (such as they are) un-dropped. Rand Paul and Massie had the thundery condemnations written.
Today, they are reduced to bitching about the captions underneath the White House art. Sad! Posted by: Kareem of Wheat at December 18, 2025 01:34 PM (AaY6N) 315

If all tucker wanted was to live rich, he would have faded away already. He wants back. And he wants back on top. Some of it is just the basic desire to be a front man, but a lot of it is revenge. And he doesn't have anywhere near that amount of money. But Qatar does. And they'd love to have their thumb on a media/news conglomerate that they build through him and those that travel with him. He's building that.

There was an illegal who killed a white woman in Iowa. The white woman’s family said they still love immigrants because otherwise Iowa’s food scene would be boring.
Wouldn’t surprise me iff this NoVa murder will have the same type of pronouncement from the family. When did that happen? There was a federal government office that specifically was tasked with gaslighting the families of diversity victims into making exactly these kinds of statements. It went bye-bye along with USAID on July 1st. Posted by: Ian S. at December 18, 2025 01:39 PM (QZThv) Processing 0.05, elapsed 0.0598 seconds. |
