Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump Files Lawsuit Against BBC for Defamatory J6 EditThe odds of winning in court, with a left-wing anti-American judge and left-wing anti-American, are zero, unfortunately. Note that all left-wingers are anti-patriots who despise their country... but hate America more, and turn into jingoistic nationalists if the Great Satan America is in a conflict with their countries. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said early Tuesday it plans to fight back against President Donald Trump's $10 billion lawsuit. The BBC has come under intense scrutiny over a 2024 "Panorama" documentary about Trump's Jan. 6, 2021, speech delivered before the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Critics claim the documentary was misleading because it omitted Trump's call for supporters to protest peacefully. Trump sued the BBC on Monday for both defamation and for a violation of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act for $5 billion apiece, seeking $10 billion total. The suit, filed in the Southern District of Florida Federal Court, was filed in a personal capacity and names BBC and BBC Studios Productions as defendants. While ABC and CBS have both settled with Trump in recent memory, the BBC plans to fight the case. "As we have made clear previously, we will be defending this case. We are not going to make further comment on ongoing legal proceedings," a BBC spokesperson told Fox News Digital. Trump's legal team, made up of attorneys Alejandro Brito, Edward Paltzik and Daniel Epstein, believes the British outlet serves a liberal political agenda. "The formerly respected and now disgraced BBC defamed President Trump by intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively doctoring his speech in a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 Presidential Election. The BBC has a long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump, all in service of its own leftist political agenda. President Trump's powerhouse lawsuit is holding the BBC accountable for its defamation and reckless election interference just as he has held other fake news mainstream media responsible for their wrongdoing," a spokesperson for Trump's legal team told Fox News Digital. The BBC previously issued an apology for the erroneous edit and said it had pulled the program from its platforms, but a spokesperson for the broadcaster added, "While the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim."I wish there was some chance this lawsuit could prevail. But it won't. We'll just have to take solace in the fact that the BBC is losing billions because more and more Britons are refusing to pay the mandatory "license fee" to watch the shithole state media. BBC loses 1.1 billion pounds as more viewers cancel or evade TV licence fee The publishing of the report comes after a number of scandals at the BBC in recent months ... PAC chair Conservative MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown described the BBC as "an organisation under severe pressure". Among several findings, the report said the BBC is not doing enough to enforce collection of the licence fee, which it described as unfair to the vast majority of households that do pay for a licence. It said licence fee evasion and households not purchasing a licence together represented more than 1.1 billion pounds in potential lost income in 2024/25. ... It also highlighted how the BBC is behind target in developing new intellectual property (IP), "which in turn will limit sustainable long-term revenue streams".Well you had Doctor Who, but you decided to torch that IP. The report said the BBC's mission to "serve all audiences" is at risk, with just 51% of younger people feeling the BBC reflects them, while their overall use of BBC services -- including TV, radio or online -- is significantly lower than other age groups. One good thing about Millennials and Zellennials is their rejecting of the media. The BBC is dying, after a decade of incredibly stupid moves. And it probably would anyway, being a network TV channel in an era where only 10% of the population even watches network TV.
They are getting really aggressive about trying to get people to pay their fee for having a TV set, but the law actually says people only have to pay if they watch the BBC which most people don't. Ask anyone under the age of 30 how long its been since they even watched television, let alone a network TV channel. Posted by: Oddbo The free dates back to an era when only well-off people could afford a television (which lasted up through the '70s). Since TV ownership was not universal, or even common at first, the fee is only charged of those who had one -- not of everyone who pays taxes. Big Bill Thompson - the last Republican mayor of Chicago and friend of second-hand furniture dealer, Al Capone - once threatened to punch the King of England in the nose if he ever came to his burg (I think it was an attempt to get the Irish vote).
It wouldn't be sporting for Trump to punch King Charles in the nose, him being sick and all, but there ought to be something along those lines he could do. Perhaps he could invite the UK ambassador over and have Hegseth and Homan hold him while he gives him a wedgie. Posted by: Paco at December 16, 2025 01:42 PM (2L+MU) 97

"I wish there was some chance this lawsuit could prevail. But it won't."
Ace, he doesn't have to win the case. It's nuclear leverage for a settlement. Trump got $15 million from ABC News and $16 million from Paramount (CBS). I suspect he'll get a nice fat settlement from BBC too. Also keep in mind that this is in Florida, not DC, where Trump might get a half-fair chances against a bunch of foreigners with bad teeth. Finally, and this could be big, Trump has a claim under Florida's "Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act." If that act is anything like most state "deceptive practices" act, it's patterned after the federal Federal Trade Commission Act. Which means it's very broad -- much broader than defamation -- and covers all forms of deception and "unfair" conduct. Plus, it'll have attorney fees and other provisions. I suspect the BBC is fucked. If I was Trump, I wouldn't settle for less than $50M. Posted by: Elric The Blade at December 16, 2025 01:51 PM (iFTx/) 131

In the United Kingdom and the rest of the British Islands, any household watching or recording television transmissions at the same time they are being broadcast is required by law to hold a television license. This applies regardless of transmission method, including terrestrial, satellite, cable, and internet streaming. It is also required for the viewing of on demand content on BBC iPlayer. The television license is the instrument used to raise revenue to fund the BBC and S4C.

Businesses, hospitals, schools and a range of other organizations are also required by law to hold television licenses to watch and record live television broadcasts. The license, originally a radio license, was introduced in November 1923 using powers under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1904, and cost 10 shillings per annum. The license was extended to televisions at a cost of £2 in June 1946. The radio part was abolished in February 1971.
Since 1 April 2025, the annual cost has been £174.50 for a color license and £58.50 for a black and white license (with a 50% discount for legally blind people). Income from the license is primarily used to fund the television, radio and online services of the BBC. The total income from license fees was £3.83 billion in 2017–18,[3] of which £655.3 million or 17.1% was provided by the UK Government through concessions for those over the age of 75 (this subsidy has now been phased out). Thus, the license fee made up the bulk (75.7%) of the BBC's total income of £5.0627 billion in 2017–18. https://tinyurl.com/v7cphzk2 Posted by: rickb223 at December 16, 2025 01:51 PM (+x87d) 135

But having seen her left wing hit job on Erika Kirk and some of her other recent nonsense, I’m thinking now that Bari’s goal might actually be an attempt to restore legitimacy to left wing journalism, by bringing back a more subtle form of media bias that draws bipartisan respect.
== I only saw clips, but...it did no look like gutcha townhall, and don't you think Kirk was well aware of the guests and maybe even the tough questions ? Weiss is the type to show her cards. This was a first in her new series, the townhall with Erika was a huge "get", she might want her back even, she would not want to turn the audience away , seems to be trying to be a bridge of sorts ? The free dates back to an era when only well-off people could afford a television (which lasted up through the '70s). Since TV ownership was not universal, or even common at first, the fee is only charged of those who had one -- not of everyone who pays taxes.

Total of 4, I think. The other three are normal, such as it for children of Hollywood. He was married to Penny Marshall (Laverne from Laverne and Shirley) back in the '70s, and adopted a daughter she had with some other previous husband. They were divorced, and he married his current wife a bit later. They had 3 kids together, I think, Nick the sociopath being one. Walking Zombie. Given the venue, he'd be acquitted if he'd murdered two conservatives ... and might still get off via a "reason of insanity" defense. Posted by: ShainS Depends. You have to be so insane as to not appreciate the rightness and wrongness of your actions and it cannot be in an induced state by substance abuse. If you take meth, for example, and kill people while you are on meth. Despite the behavior appearing insane, the person chose to take the drug making them insane so no insanity defense for that person. Substance abuse is a factor to weigh in on sentencing but not in asserting an insanity defense which is a judge decision, not a jury. Same as trying to assert self defense to have a gun pulled and aimed at a person but declaring you shot them by accident. Not valid for justification/affirmative defenses. This is going to be a teaching moment courtesy of the UK Barristers.
Sure, it's a defamation suit. But, defamation in this case entails speech. And the proceedings are going to be a catalyst on the decaying speech freedoms within the UK. The BBC is going to have to argue for the freedom to frame what they're saying as they want. This is the opposite of what is being instituted within the UK. I don't think the Trump Administration is doing this for the money or the "defamation." I think they're doing it to highlight what is failing in the UK right now, and the hyper-inflated demand is to make sure it's taken seriously. This is going to polarize that country even more, and it should be entertaining at the very least. Yep, there are stories coming out about that. And from a very young age. Stuff like Meathead having to physically hold him down when he threw violent tantrums and stuff. That's why a jury trial is imperative. Posted by: mrp at December 16, 2025 02:21 PM (rj6Yv) The football game we went to while visiting the First Daughter after Thanksgiving....we sat in front of this older gentleman and his daughter. We talked with the guy a bit and he told us he was the first in Texas to have a jury trial for his divorce proceedings from his first wife. He was fighting for custody of the daughter and lawyer after lawyer told him there was no way because of the whole 'she's the mother' bias. He found a lawyer, they went to trial and he won. I called him a legend. His daughter didn't hear him tell the story and wanted to know why I called him that. He said "because I've been coming to these games so long." I rolled with it and kept his story to myself the rest of the game. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at December 16, 2025 02:25 PM (Zz0t1) 281

If it's a jury trial in Southern Florida, the BBC's legal team goes into settlement mode at warp speed. In which case, the Pentagon, the State Department, and the Department of the Interior all get big, beautiful ballrooms.
--- BBC can bluff all they want about how they are going to fight, fight, fight this. And they'll fold. Because getting a US jury to render a verdict against the BBC is right up there with ease of getting a verdict against ISIS: They're not a US entity, they've not a massive pool of goodwill, and how can the jury resist sticking it to the UK government? PS: Remember how the UK government just arrested a guy for posing with a gun in FL? LOL dumbasses gonna try and tell that jury they are big defenders of free speech now? But that would've slowed him down enough, and the noise would've likely woke Meathead and the wife up where they would've perhaps had a fighting chance. As it was, he just slipped in there and slit their throats while they were sleeping. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at December 16, 2025 02:27 PM (w6EFb) 289

If indeed the deranged son did slash their throats while they were asleep, then Reiner and his wife are fucking idiots. There are things called locks on bedroom doors. Yes, he was their son and sons don't usually go around murdering their parents. But this kid was a decades-long, known lunatic and junkie. I'll bet there were violent episodes in the past. Reiner had to know he was capable of anything.
Posted by: Elric The Blade at December 16, 2025 02:19 PM (iFTx/) Hell, they could have, and should have, changed the locks on the entire house. They probably could have afforded having armed security at night, or even 24/7. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 16, 2025 02:28 PM (npFr7) 292

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor It is pretty much all the media. The way to deal with a reporter is to shut them down, don't give them your side of the story, and direct all conversations to legal counsel. They will use whatever fits their narrative and discard teh rest. That is whether it is local or national like the NYT, WaPo, NBC, etc. They tell narrative lies by omission, editing, selection of evidence for the story like witnesses used, and so on. Don't talk to the media. They are not your friend if you are a regular person. Figure that they are actually there to investigate and prosecute you in the court of public opinion. If you must, hire a pr savvy person or a lawyer savvy in pr to speak for you in a public statement. Posted by: whig at December 16, 2025 02:28 PM (WDjG6) 293

Posted by: FenelonSpoke ===== Anyone in a Republican White House should know that no media person is your friend. They butter you up, in the case of teh AJC journalist apparently sexed up an FBI agent to print the scoop about Jewell in the Olympic Bombings, etc. Nuzzi is a 'journalist' and ironically worked at VF for a bit before being canned. Journalists trash Dem administrations too but only when they are safely out of office during a GOP administration. Lesson: never talk to journalists in private--always do it in public and if you have to have a private meeting: run your own recording camera and tape of the journalist and let them know they are being recorded entirely or no dice on the interview.
