Trump Files Lawsuit Against BBC for Defamatory J6 Edit

The odds of winning in court, with a left-wing anti-American judge and left-wing anti-American, are zero, unfortunately.

Note that all left-wingers are anti-patriots who despise their country... but hate America more, and turn into jingoistic nationalists if the Great Satan America is in a conflict with their countries.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said early Tuesday it plans to fight back against President Donald Trump's $10 billion lawsuit.
The BBC has come under intense scrutiny over a 2024 "Panorama" documentary about Trump's Jan. 6, 2021, speech delivered before the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Critics claim the documentary was misleading because it omitted Trump's call for supporters to protest peacefully.
Trump sued the BBC on Monday for both defamation and for a violation of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act for $5 billion apiece, seeking $10 billion total. The suit, filed in the Southern District of Florida Federal Court, was filed in a personal capacity and names BBC and BBC Studios Productions as defendants. While ABC and CBS have both settled with Trump in recent memory, the BBC plans to fight the case.
"As we have made clear previously, we will be defending this case. We are not going to make further comment on ongoing legal proceedings," a BBC spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
Trump's legal team, made up of attorneys Alejandro Brito, Edward Paltzik and Daniel Epstein, believes the British outlet serves a liberal political agenda.
"The formerly respected and now disgraced BBC defamed President Trump by intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively doctoring his speech in a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 Presidential Election. The BBC has a long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump, all in service of its own leftist political agenda. President Trump's powerhouse lawsuit is holding the BBC accountable for its defamation and reckless election interference just as he has held other fake news mainstream media responsible for their wrongdoing," a spokesperson for Trump's legal team told Fox News Digital.
The BBC previously issued an apology for the erroneous edit and said it had pulled the program from its platforms, but a spokesperson for the broadcaster added, "While the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim."

Trump's legal team suggested the defendants "timed the publication of the Panorama Documentary to be close in time to the 2024 Presidential Election" and the value of the president's "personal brand alone is reasonably estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars."

I wish there was some chance this lawsuit could prevail. But it won't.

We'll just have to take solace in the fact that the BBC is losing billions because more and more Britons are refusing to pay the mandatory "license fee" to watch the shithole state media.

The report said the BBC's mission to "serve all audiences" is at risk, with just 51% of younger people feeling the BBC reflects them, while their overall use of BBC services -- including TV, radio or online -- is significantly lower than other age groups.

They are getting really aggressive about trying to get people to pay their fee for having a TV set, but the law actually says people only have to pay if they watch the BBC which most people don't. Ask anyone under the age of 30 how long its been since they even watched television, let alone a network TV channel.

I agree with you that this is a concern. I think a lot of people on the right whine too much about media bias. It seems to betray a desire to "be treated fairly", as though you are waiting for that girl who cheated on you and then dumped you to "come to her senses" and return.

The last thing we should want is a return to Walter Cronkite "journalism". As someone said about Albo blaming the Bondi Beach shooting shooting on "right-wingers" yesterday, unhinged rhetoric is actually helpful, since it wakes up anyone who isn't a committed Communist already.

Ace, he doesn't have to win the case. It's nuclear leverage for a settlement. Trump got $15 million from ABC News and $16 million from Paramount (CBS). I suspect he'll get a nice fat settlement from BBC too.

Finally, and this could be big, Trump has a claim under Florida's "Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act." If that act is anything like most state "deceptive practices" act, it's patterned after the federal Federal Trade Commission Act. Which means it's very broad -- much broader than defamation -- and covers all forms of deception and "unfair" conduct. Plus, it'll have attorney fees and other provisions.

I suspect the BBC is fucked. If I was Trump, I wouldn't settle for less than $50M.

Dr. Who was fun in the 70's and off and on later because it would give some great writers a chance to do whatever they wanted, albeit with a low budget. Terry Nation, Steve Moffat, Russell Davies all did great work - even Neil Gaiman snuck in for an episode.

What made it work was that they were allowed to do whatever they wanted. It was when the Execs started trying to dictate that it be woke was when it all went downhill.

Depends. You have to be so insane as to not appreciate the rightness and wrongness of your actions and it cannot be in an induced state by substance abuse. If you take meth, for example, and kill people while you are on meth. Despite the behavior appearing insane, the person chose to take the drug making them insane so no insanity defense for that person.

Substance abuse is a factor to weigh in on sentencing but not in asserting an insanity defense which is a judge decision, not a jury.

Same as trying to assert self defense to have a gun pulled and aimed at a person but declaring you shot them by accident. Not valid for justification/affirmative defenses.

Sure, it's a defamation suit. But, defamation in this case entails speech. And the proceedings are going to be a catalyst on the decaying speech freedoms within the UK. I don't think the Trump Administration is doing this for the money or the "defamation." The football game we went to while visiting the First Daughter after Thanksgiving....we sat in front of this older gentleman and his daughter. We talked with the guy a bit and he told us he was the first in Texas to have a jury trial for his divorce proceedings from his first wife. He was fighting for custody of the daughter and lawyer after lawyer told him there was no way because of the whole 'she's the mother' bias.

He found a lawyer, they went to trial and he won. I called him a legend. His daughter didn't hear him tell the story and wanted to know why I called him that. He said "because I've been coming to these games so long." I rolled with it and kept his story to myself the rest of the game.

It is pretty much all the media. The way to deal with a reporter is to shut them down, don't give them your side of the story, and direct all conversations to legal counsel. They will use whatever fits their narrative and discard teh rest.

That is whether it is local or national like the NYT, WaPo, NBC, etc.

They tell narrative lies by omission, editing, selection of evidence for the story like witnesses used, and so on.

Don't talk to the media. They are not your friend if you are a regular person. Figure that they are actually there to investigate and prosecute you in the court of public opinion. If you must, hire a pr savvy person or a lawyer savvy in pr to speak for you in a public statement.
