The Morning Rant: No American Soldiers In Eastern Europe!

punk-monkey.jpg

Repeat after me: "We are not the world's policeman."

To paraphrase Otto von Bismarck, "Ukraine is not worth the bones of a single United States Marine." So the idea of some security agreement with Ukraine that mirrors NATO's Article 5 is essentially allowing Ukraine into NATO without all of that pesky cooperation and standardization and massive bureaucracy and, by the way, no equal commitment from the rest of the members.

And that's exactly what they want! France and Germany don't want their soldiers to get chewed up and spit out in Donetsk. They want American soldiers to do their dirty work, so they can enjoy some strudel and a good Eiswein, or a lovely croissant and a couple of espressos while they read the news of American blood and treasure being spent once again in Europe.

Stay out of Eastern Europe's territorial disputes. They have been going on for a very long time, and most of them have been nasty wars that expose the curious lack of interest in the lives of those who are fighting them. Both Ukraine and Russia are churning through soldiers at an astounding rate, and the idea that America should provide some ironclad security in the event of another border clash is batshit crazy.

Kyiv's Top Negotiator Hails 'Real Progress' During 2nd Day of Peace Talks in Berlin

Ahead of the first meeting, Zelenskyy said on Dec. 14 that Kyiv is open to dropping its NATO ambitions in exchange for Western security guarantees.

“Thus, today, bilateral security guarantees between Ukraine and the US, Article 5-like guarantees for us from the US, and security guarantees from European colleagues, as well as other countries — Canada, Japan — are an opportunity to prevent another Russian invasion,” Zelenskyy said in a WhatsApp chat with reporters.

It remains unclear how discussions have progressed on that and other issues, such as territorial concessions, which have been key sticking points in the process.

The Kremlin said on Dec. 15 that Ukraine agreeing not to join NATO was fundamental to the peace settlement.

This war is going to end only when Ukraine and its European cheerleaders admit that they have lost territory that will probably never be returned. Yes, that's not fair. And it wasn't fair that I didn't get the GI Joe with the Kung-Fu grip when I was eight years old, but that's the way of the world!

Russia has been exposed as a paper tiger, and the insulting argument that Ukraine is only the first step in its drive to the Channel is thoroughly debunked by the facts on the ground. Russia couldn't conquer Ukraine in three and a half years? That is a shocking realization for Putin and his generals, and no amount of obfuscation on their part will change that.

Here's my plan. Guarantee a certain level of access to American weapons, paid for in cash. Guarantee a certain level of intelligence cooperation. Guarantee support in the United Nations (remember that?) for a just peace. Continue support for Poland's military buildup, which is a wonderful buffer against any Russian intransigence.

And no American soldiers anywhere near the current battlefields or anywhere near a hypothetical future conflict. Until Western Europe decides that their culture is worth defending, what possible future benefit is there for America to enter a war that is merely a distraction from the real conflict: Islam vs. the West?

Not enough to send 100's of thousands off to be killed by Russia and sending their wives and children to other countries as refugees. Now they want to 'diversify' it with non-Westerners, non-Christians to completely finish it off.

Sadly, too many people are asleep. They think Islam is just like Christianity.

It's not.

It CAN be no big deal, as it was when the West was the strong horse and the middle east wanted to copy it- look at pictures from the 1960s and early 1970s in Egypt, Iraq, and Iran.

But we've revealed we're a paper tiger- not from lack of capability, but from lack of will.

And the will of Islam to murderously oppress everyone opposed to it looks like the strong horse.

I disagree. While I agree with your basic point, that Russia is weaker than previously thought, i think Ukraine was stronger than being given credit for. I see this a lot, that Russia couldn't even conquer Ukraine, much less Germany or France.

Ukraine (before Russia invaded) was likely the second largest military in Europe, though Poland is probably now larger. Conquering Ukraine never was going to be an easy task, except in the year 2021 fever dreams of Putin and his generals.

But it doesn't take much reading between the lines to see that the Navy narrowly missed suffering a major disaster, such as losing a ship, and the amount of missiles we had to expend to guard against threats vastly exceeded the cost of the low tech drones and missiles that the Yemeni's kept sending. In the long run it was probably a good thing, and I hope the Navy learned the lesson that they need to vastly upgrade their systems and operational plans.

74 disagree. As someone here pointed out yesterday, the Muslim fraction of their populations is lower than it seems at first glance, because you usually hear something like "Mohammad is the most popular name in Amsterdam (or another city)." However, that doesn't reflect the fact that the Muzzies, like blacks and new immigrants in America, are heavily concentrated in the cities.

It wasn't just Putin. A lot of conventional wisdom was that Ukraine was screwed up to and including maybe a week after Russia invaded. Also, I seem to recall several people who should have known better were touting the size of Iraq's military in 2003. Removing Hussein wasn't going to be easy, there's going to be tens of thousands of casualties, he's been building military defenses in depth for decades, etc. I think we can safely conclude that just comparing numbers is a quick way to get it wrong.

The war has always been a proxy war between Russia and NATO. Ukraine was a useful pawn but without the hundreds of billions in weapons, intel and cash poured into Ukraine by the west Russia would have won a long time ago.

146 The way I remember it, seemingly right on the heels of the disastrous, middle of the night let’s not tell anybody even our allies we’re leaving Afghanistan (where some non-trivial amount of multi-billions in weaponry and aircraft were criminally abandoned)

All of a sudden, the Narrative did this pivot to “Rally Round The Flag, Boys!” on the Ukraine. We simply had to protect their “freedom and democracy” despite everyone knowing they aren’t free or even close to a democracy.

Then the usual suspects got in front of the cameras on all the state networks and demanding eleventy gazillion dollars a year in perpetuity for this debacle, or they threatened Americans directly to do otherwise would mean “boots on the ground” in the Ukraine. Extortion.

Couldn’t believe it. And even more unbelievable were all these old hippie “antiwar” freaks leading the charge. I am in awe of the power of government suggestion & hypnosis, or whatever it is that turns ordinary people into raving idiots.

159 [ZERO] Fresh reporting in Reuters has tracked at least five supertankers which have changed course on Monday after initially heading to Venezuela to load crude oil, following this month's US naval seizure of a Venezuelan tanker.

Among these was a Russian tanker transporting crude for Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA, along with at least four other supertankers en route to Venezuelan ports. They made u-turns on fears of facing US military interdiction.

This also comes after last Friday Bloomberg and others reported that Washington was preparing to carry out further seizures of sanction-linked oil tankers off Venezuela's coast.

Maduro sits at the top of a vast criminal organization, often referred to as the Cartel de los Soles. To keep control of it requires a vast amount of cash - everyone has to paid off, constantly, and Maduro has militias keeping control in Venezuela that have to be paid off as well. Ukraine has developed (with obvious help) a fleet of ocean going, one way suicide drone boats. One of them was used to hit a submarine while it was in port. There's video of that. Plus Ukraine has used these type of drone boats to attack Russia's so-called "dark fleet" of tankers they used to avoid sanctions on importing / exporting oil.

An off-the-cuff analysis suggests Ukraine (with help) has inflicted a fair amount of military damage on Russia while draining them of much needed money.

216 Another RINO whines:

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R--sure he is) is complaining that if President Donald Trump deports Haitian migrants whose Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will soon end, jobs will go “unfilled.”

Last month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that TPS will end for tens of thousands of Haitian migrants come February 2026 — leaving them with no legal status to remain in the U.S.

DHS officials are urging Haitians on TPS to self-deport before they are arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

DeWine, in an interview with local Ohio media, complained that DHS’s potentially deporting Haitian migrants — particularly from Springfield, Ohio, where the Haitian population has exploded — will open American jobs.

“Some of the economic progress that Springfield has made would go away,” DeWine said, according to Cleveland.com:

“Employers tell me many of these, maybe most of these Haitians working there will no longer be legal,” DeWine said. And once that happens, “you’re going to have a lot of unfilled jobs.”

Make that Putin and Zelinsky don't have any incentive to stop fighting. Putin because he is winning, Zelinsky because his own survival and wealth might end with the war.

I think both average Russians and Ukrainians are well tired of it but the leaders in any conflict are the last to consider ending a war. Iran and Iraq War dragged on for 8 years or so as a killing machine.

290 Good Rant and, yes, you're right.

This isn't a good thing to say, I guess, but I don't trust NATO & think it'll do as it desires (even if that means taking baby steps) behind this President's back in an effort to wait him out.

And the EU, hell no, never! in as far as trust. The ICC is not staying within its 'legal' boundaries, such as they are. The EU's Euroclear is having a grand time collecting tax revenues from profits generated by Russia's frozen central bank funds AND soaking the US through NATO, the UN, etc. They're all in when it come to support of Netflix created Zelenskyy's never-ending whataboutisms & theft, and they'll let it into the EU likely before 2030 though they deny it. (And then how the hell do you not support Ukraine via NATO?)

(The PA's Army National Guard's Independence Brigade (56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team) is actively involved in training Ukrainian forces in Germany, focusing on essential skills, tactics, and defense doctrines to enhance Ukraine's ability to defend its sovereignty. PA's National Guard (MPAD) also just deployed a public affairs unit for a year-long mission supporting U.S. Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR).)

But Poland, 👍

307 Have you been to Wyoming recently? The more populated areas (Jackson Hole, Teton Village, etc) are filled with immigrants and most are almost certainly illegal. The entire hospitality industry there -- which is the biggest industry in the area -- is all hispanics who speak not a word of English. There's still lifties and ski patrol and service staff who are white, but all the people in the background -- cleaning people, the grunts, the manual labor -- is all brown skins.

I ski Jackson hole every year, and go to Utah (Alta) 3-4x a year. The Utah ski and hospitality industry was overrun by hispanics maybe 10 years ago. Jackson was more recent, maybe 5 years ago. Montana (Big Sky) is currently being overrun.

All the other ski destinations were overrun many years ago (Colorado, CA, VT, etc.). The hospitality industry is addicted to cheap labor who will do anything.

And yet a perfect example in a quote of a GloboHomo Chamber of Commerce GOPe former senator and now governor.

DeWino literally hates his own constituents that are white and do not want to work for megacorp for peanuts.

There is a reason that socialism starts to look good when all the megacorps are intent on hiring outsiders because cheaper and then enrolling them on the public dole just to avoid paying more.

Sounds great to the executives and investors, not so good for the average citizen worker in Ohio. They get taxed out the wazoo to support bringing in Haitians that destroy their communities, raise housing prices, and eat their dogs and cats so that megacorp can avoid paying the going rate for US laborers (and safety and sanitary conditions as well).

It is inevitable that dumbass GOP administration types talk to reporters in private so to put their side of the story out. It inevitably backfires and scorches the dumbasses willing to believe that any journalist has ethics, morals, or a sense of truth.

These journalists only report on Democrat malfeasance and internal bickering after that administration is already over and their assholes are maneveuring during off season to point fingers and blame in order to position themselves for the next Dem administration.

The GOP types, and that included Trump in his first term, always believe that Lucy (the journalist) is really going to let them (Charlie Brown) kick the football this time. Trump II is better, for the most part going on their shows directly and trashing them and their narratives or going on favorable platforms rather than rely on journalist 'ethics'.

366 When has Greece ever been considered an Eastern European country?

Orthodox monks write very disparagingly of the influence of "The West." In code, that may mean the Roman church, but there it is, in cyrillic black and white.

When Turks held most of the Balkans, most of the area was "The Near East." That term is seldom used any more. In the day, it included The Lebanon and The Palestine. It's not just Europe's boundary that has floated.

Apparently, it no longer stands out. 3 of the 4 directors (of which she was one) were already women.

It is hilarious that trolls start by claiming to be lifelong Republicans when many of us here despise the Republican brand and many of their politicians as moneygrubbing backstabbing sobs.

Democrats more or less love their party and would follow their Pied Pipers into a river to be drowned just like rats did in the old story. So for them, they cannot understand that most of the GOP coalition only puts up with their pols to the extent that they actually do their jobs and prevents Democrats in office from actively harming them and their families.

It is not from loving GOP as a party.

372 Of course there are private schools and parochial schools which might skew the numbers down some and maybe it’s 35% when according for that. But no matter the number, within a couple of generations whites will be a small minority in the state.

Yes and no. A substantial number of hispanics consider themselves white, and they are increasingly voting like it. By the third generation few will speak any version of Spanish, their kids already act like American kids and speak dialect free english. Their kids will barely understand anything more than food, some traditional music and some holiday traditions.

374 In the U.S., Afghan Americans have been officially categorized as Caucasian for census purposes since 1945, placing them in the "White" racial category, which is where the perception of "white adjacency" originates.

375 “ Stay out of Eastern Europe's territorial disputes. They have been going on for a very long time, and most of them have been nasty wars that expose the curious lack of interest in the lives of those who are fighting them.”

Indeed! This applies elsewhere too!

379 Repeat after me: “these are the words of a whiny isolationist,”.

No, we do not need soldiers in Eastern Europe unless they are there for an exercise - but the isolationism and Code Pinkery that increasingly animate this blog is off putting.

Anytime I see the whine of “we are not the world’s policeman” I know I am dealing with somebody who regards being a superpower as a source of embarrassment and deep personal shame and want America to be as whiny and toothless as possible.

I look forward to being called a “warmonger”, mocked for my patriotism (I can’t sing, much less Yankee Doodle Dandy), or attacked for other reasons. I didn’t work for 22 years of my adult life to watch the country become the whiny little bitch so many here so desperately want to save a buck.

380 *263 Not a single US Marine or sailor needs to die for Israel EVER AGAIN.

Who were the US Marines and Sailors who "died for Israel?"*

Search for "USS Liberty".

381 "This war is going to end only when Ukraine and its European cheerleaders admit that they have lost territory that will probably never be returned."

Not so. Russia is on the edge of a financial collapse. When that happens, Russia will be able to hold nothing.

To 380: The Sailors of the Liberty did not die for Israel.
