  • Want a high-resolution monitor but still need fast refresh rates for games? Asus' new XG27JG has you covered. (Tom's Hardware)

It's a 5k model which is good enough for almost anything, and runs at 180Hz which is also good enough for almost anything. But if you drop the resolution to 2560x1440 you can boost the refresh rate to 330Hz, which is more than enough.

HDR 600 and 97% of DCI-P3 colour. One small catch: It doesn't work at its full resolution and refresh rate on an Nvidia 4000-series card, because those only support an older version of DisplayPort. Previous generation Radeon 7000 series cards do work, as do all current-generation cards.

    Around $835.

  • Buying 1152GB of Frakenram for $8000. (Tom's Hardware)

The user put an offer in on a second-hand custom Nvidia AI system that originally cost around $80,000 and managed to get it working.

  • Over 10,000 Docker Hub images have been found leaking credentials. (Bleeping Computer)

    It's over 10,000!

Good morning, good people, from the Adirondacks, currently laboring under 6.5" of dreaded climate change.

I'd forgotten, as usual, how much fun moving climate change isn't. And how quickly the weather wailers spring into action, bemoaning their plights.

My HR has sprung into action with all the energy one expects from Human Resources in a mega-corp and noticed that today is my last day so, perhaps, they should give me a checklist or some shit about what they'd like me to do on the way out the door.

Fortunately, I had contacted them a couple weeks ago - wanted info on how COBRA works - so I already had the checklist and have been ticking things off.

30 For the guys (and gals) trying to build out a decent PC this Christmas without paying over $2000 just to start, JayzTwoCents has an interesting Shopping-Online Build that makes some sense.

"Is this the solution to the DDR5 Crisis?"
https://youtu.be/vwJZztIrQO8

He surfed and found deals on an Intel 12900K (MicroCenter CPU bundle with a motherboard), 32GB DDR4, Gen4 1TB SSD, 1000W PSU, and a RX 9070XT, and got the cost to around $1600 for a pretty decent gaming PC at a reasonable cost.

It's not a bad way to start a PC build the way things are with DDR5 pricing driving up the costs on an AM5 platform build.

You could also substitute some AMD 5000 series processors on a AM4 motherboard if you're not an Intel fan. Jay went with Intel because he believes they had a better product that generation. You could also go with an Intel 13th or 14th Gen CPU and still use DDR4.

47 Congratulations, Different Nic. Be sure to do something fun for your first week of freedom!

Because of her genealogy research, Linda wanted to drive to a town in the SW part of the state -- she said some of my ancestors came from there. Or lived there, or ate ice cream there; something like that. So off we went. A pleasant day trip, if hot (the first week of April here is already insufferable).

Think of something you've wanted to do on a weekday for a while, and just do it!

Stirling once again displayed the little mealtime clock in his head today by jumping up on the bed at *exactly* four o'clock. He doesn't get any chow until five, but he figures there's nothing like being early. Little gray Dagny is lounging on a chair at the table, being quiet and patient, while he paces around and plays with one of his toys. She plays too, but usually *after* she eats.

Had a chance to pick up two three-packs of the tp-link Deco X60's for around $250.00

Using the home's cat-5 ethernet for back-haul, stuff seems to flow rather well.

Lots of little issues that have been plaguing the wifi seem to have gone away, so all in all....glad I did it.

62 On the local Fox outlet, stories about the new "Catahoula Crunch," the crackdown by ICE, abound. Employers are worrying about their employees who are on work permits. Well, geniuses, if you'd hired Americans to start with, you wouldn't have anything to worry about, now would you?

I wonder if faculty, and especially staff, at universities are being checked on and sometimes rounded up. My former department was determined to be "diverse," and they continually hired foreign Ph.D.s who always required all sorts of visa paperwork and huge payments to the Feds. I muttered under my breath, "You wouldn't have this problem if you hired an American Ph.D.," but I knew no one would listen to me.

I got in trouble one time because Facilities sent three workers to repair my boss's office ceiling who did not speak any English -- not the usual crowd. I asked their office politely if they could send someone who did, so we could communicate. Some Karen over there complained -- not to me, but behind my back to my boss. He was forced to warn me about "such comments."
